Pre-requisites Changes (Approved by ECE Facu tv)
EE4240: Linear Circuit Design
Current Pre-requisites: EE3220 and EE32211 Credit or Registration in EE3232
New Pre-requisites: EE3220 and EE3221
Explanation: Updated course content of EE4240 which now uses the 5th Edition of text "Analog
and Design of Analog Integrated Circuits," by Gray, Hurst, Lewis and Meyer, Wiley requires a
strong background in Analog Electronics at the level of EE3220 using both bipolar and MOS
transistor based circuits - analysis and design. EE2231 (Electronics I Lab) is good enough which
gives understanding of basic electronics circuit design concepts and therefore EE3221 is no
more needed. Since EE4240 is based on device models and is already covered, credit or
registration in EE3232 is also not needed.
Addendum: This course is bipolar junction transistor and MOS field effect transistor
equivalent circuit model based for the analysis and design of analog integrated circuits. The
equivalent circuit models are to be taught in the beginning before using these models for
bipolar and MOSFET-based analog circuit design using analytical circuit analysis and simulation
from SPICE program. The designed experiments on analog circuit designs based on both
analytical and simulation methods are then tested in the laboratory. Since EE3232 Solid State
Devices as the name reflects, i actual course offering, teaches fundamentals of semiconductor
devices such as bipolar junction diodes, bipolar junction transistors and MOSFETs and other
devices after teaching physics of semiconductors. Thus, students learn introduction to bipolar
junction transistors and MOSFETs close to the end of the semester. More so eqUivalent circuit
models of bipolar junction tra sistors and MOSFETs are not covered. Using EE3232 as a co
requisite does not benefit EE4240 which requires understanding of device models and its
equivalent circuit in very beginning of EE4240 offering. Thus, EE3232 is not needed.
EE4242: VLSI Design
Current Pre-requisites: EE2740 and EE3220
New Pre-requisites: EE2740, EE2230 and EE2231
Explanation: Updated course content of EE4242 which now uses the 2nd Edition of "Digital
Integrated Circuits -A Design Perspective, " by Rabaey, Chandrakasan and Nikolic, Prentice Hall
requires a strong background in Digital Logic Design at the level of EE2740 and basic electronics
at the level of EE2230 and EE2231. Since EE4242 is based on MOS digital electronics it does not
require EE3220. Also EE4242 is organized in such a way that that both electrical and computer
engineering students can take this course as is the current pattern. This course is of highly
interdisciplinary nature.
Addendum: The digital logic design-based EE4242 VLSI Design is solely based on digital CMOS
logic design and involves design automation tools which has allowed students from both computer engineering/science a d electrical engineering can be educated and trained
according to industry standard. With the advancement in the field of VLSI sys em (chip) design,
background in electronics is limited to a level of basic electronics s ch as covered in EE2230
(Electronics I) a d EE2231 (Electronics I Lab). Since there is no analog electronics component to digital VLSI Design (EE4242), a background in EE3230 (Electronics II), which is an analog
electronics-based course covering devices from bipolar junction devices to MOS transistor, is not required.

The Faculty Senate Courses and Curricula Committee met at 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Room 129 Himes Hall.
Present: Lynne Baggett, Emily Batinski, John Hop 'ns, Jennifer Jolly (pro y), Lisa LlUldy, Dan Marin (proxy), Rick Moreland, Ayman Okeil, Pamela Pike (proxy), Lawrence Rouse (Chair) Larry Sm linsky, Michael Stout, and Anna Castrillo. Guest Representative: Tom Sofranko (Architecture)
l. Courses: • Approved five course additions, one course ancellation, and seven course chang s (see attached). • Conditionally approved all the ARCH, LA, and ID course changes that require the approval of increased field trip
fees. The Office of Academic Affairs is currently reviewing this issue. • Returned the proposal to add SOCL 2255: Socioto of Sport. How doe thi course fit in the Sociology
curriculum? Will it be an elective or a required course? Courses that have not been offered before and do not fit into a curriculum are required to be offered as a special topics course first and prove the course is successful. A letter of support should be received from the Kinesiology department as rontent is similar. The Committee also had several issues with the syllabus: I. Requiring two 8-10 minute oral presentations from 200 students seems impossible in the timeframe for the
course. 2. The wording "sanctions will be applied" in th Academic Honesty section should be removed. This statement
misleads students about LSU instruct rs' individual discretion in determining violations and applying sanctions. Suggested revision: "Suspected violations will be refe ed to the Office of Student Advocacy & Accountability. The Code of Student Conduct says. "An instructor may not assign a disciplinary grade. such as an "F" or zero on an assignment, test, examination, or course as a sanction for admitted or suspected Academic Misconduct in lieu of formally charging the student with Academic Misconduct under the provisions of tbis Code. AU grades assigned as a result of accolUltability action must be approved by e Dean of Students or design e."
3. In the Important Notes section, the wording "this syllabus is subject to change at my discretion' exaggerates the instructor's discretion abo t changes in, e.g. course requirements, weighting of grades, etc. It should be more specific about what might be changed, e.g., schedule, reading assignments, etc.

Subject: Request for Approval Field Trip Fee Increases
In 2005, former President Jenkins approved the establishment of fees associated with required courses in the Schools of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. At the beginning of each semester these fees are collected via fee bill and deposited into various accounts. The fees assessed to stude ts enrolled in these courses are to provide travel accommodations for required trips.
Attached to this request you will find justifications and a summary of expenditures for each of the courses under review.
At this time, we are requesting your approval to increase the fees associated in order to offset inflation since originally approved. The collection of these fees is critical to the success of the instruction of these courses.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.

ARCH 2002 Architectural Design IV
This course is part of the Bachelor of Architecture curriculum.
Prerequisite for ARCH 3001 or ARC 3101.
Justification
The change is being made to increase the fee associated with this course for fie d trips. The original fee
of $100 was approved in January 2005. The increase to $500 is being requested to account for the
increase in travel costs since 2005. This fee includes the c 51 of transportation to location, lodging,
ground transportation and miscellaneous museum/site entrance fees associated with the trip. This field
trip is usually throughout louisiana/Texas.
Generally architects are expected to be broadly experienced and educated. That expectation is significantly
met through our field trips and travel experiences, particular when we can tie it to a design project for a
course. Our field trips include one or more of the following advantages for our students: 1. We can visit
offices of practicing architects who have national and intemationallevel awards (no easy to find i aton
Rouge); 2. Faculty are more comfortable asstgnlng design problems where the students ave an opportunity
to visit the actual site (we have been criticized in the past by our accrediting board for having too many ocal
projects) and 3. Destinations always nelude visits to outstanding examples of contemporary or historical
works of architecture, providing a 1:1 experience for a student to visit a project and not just view through
slides.
lSU BOARD OF SUPERVISORS EQUEST FOR FEE ADJUSTMENT
CAMPUS: Louislilna State University
Briefly state the reasons for fee adjustment(s). If multiple adjustments are being proposed attach
separate sheet that details all adjustments.
The curriculum of Architecture 2002 includes a required field trip and fees to cover the cost of transportation, lodging and ground transportation for the students. This Is a multi-day field trip to a nearby regional location with il c rrent travel cost of $100 which was approved In 2005. This request is to increase the fee for travel costs to $500.00 to cover higher travel costs.
