Course Overview & Student Learning Outcomes BUS 221 teaches some of the most essential skills for using programs of the Office 2016 suite. In

addition to exploring some of the features and capabilities that all the Office programs share, you will

learn many skills specific to each program, like promoting and demoting lists in Word, creating simple

formulas in Excel, applying a theme in PowerPoint, reorganizing forms in Access, and much more.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Identify parts of the Office user interface

• Search for Help within Office applications

• Combine items created in various applications

• Create a professional business letter (Word)

• Prepare a professional résumé using a table (Word) • Create a promotional brochure (Word)

• Create a report using headers/footers, table of figures, and footnotes/endnotes (Word) • Discuss how Excel helps productivity (Excel)

• Use functions to perform calculations (Excel) • Create, modify, and format charts (Excel)

• Sort and filter data (Excel)

• Apply a document theme (PowerPoint)

• Create a presentation from a Word outline (PowerPoint)

Accumulated points will be divided by the total available and a grade will be determined using the following percentage scale:

Response Time: I will respond to all emails within 48 hours, hopefully sooner. I will have your submitted assignments

Due Dates: All assignments to be turned in must be submitted on the due date as listed on the course schedule.

Late Work Policy: All work MUST be completed on time. If anything is time stamped after the due date and time no points

will be given. In extenuating circumstances only, an extension with reduced point totals may be granted at the discretion of the instructor; however, the student must notify instructor PRIOR to due date/time.

Homework: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access assignments will be assigned during the course in almost every

module. Assignments will be submitted via the Labyrinth Learning eLab and Blackboard. You must have

Microsoft Access installed (or have access to a computer with it installed) to complete the database assignments in this course.

Practical Exams: Each component of MS office will have a practical exam. These exams include the range of topics

covered for that MS Office component.

Midterm & Final Quizzes: The midterm and final multiple choice and closed book. Each exam will have a time limit of 90 minutes.

These exams are worth 50 points each.
