MACAYANDATE: MARCH 2015AbstractThe descriptive survey method of research was utilized in the study to assess and determine the level of effectiveness of inquiry approach in teaching science in grades III-VI. This research aimed to study the level of effectiveness of inquiry approach in teaching science in grades III-VI in Pagbilao District. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions (1.) What is the level of effectiveness of inquiry approach in teaching science in grades III-VI in terms of: a. classroom management, academic performance, (2.) What are the perceptions of the teacher respondents on the importance using inquiry approach in teaching science III-VI. The data revealed that: Majority of the respondents agreed that, it helps to develops critical thinking among students, it encourages student hands on experiences which are beneficial for their learning, It provide opportunities for interaction, participation, and the active demonstration in the classroom, It helps students understand how to identify problems, autonomously seek answers, and develop and verify solutions. That, Majority of the respondents agreed that it enhances students learning achievement, it helps students familiarize themselves with ongoing experiments, and it made the students in getting high grades during examination. That, Majority of the respondents agreed that it made the students in getting high grades during examination, it helps to generate new ideas in teaching science, expands teachers knowledge of science concepts. These statements are all about the teachers perception using inquiry approach in teaching science in grades III-VI. Based from the conclusion the researchers come up with the following recommendations: For the science teachers, they should provide materials that can be use during experiment. Provide more materials for the activities and encourage them to ask questions. Then, the teacher must assist with this by scaffolding the questioning process through modeling provocative open questions to students in order to become more critical thinkers. Provide more experiments in theclassroomforhands-on learning so that the student can participate in the classroom discussion. Researcher also recommends to teachers to continue using inquiry approach in order to get high scores during examination.
