March 12, 2015 Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday we were made aware of a serious incident involving juvenile students that was reportedly posted on social media. The information was immediately turned over to investigators within the Greece Police Department. At this time, their investigation is still on-going.
Once the investigation is complete, the District will be determining action steps, penalties, and remedial actions for all those involved. While as a District, we cannot comment specifically on individual student discipline cases, we can say that students found to be involved will face strong and appropriate consequences as well as remedial actions designed to help them understand the inappropriateness of their behavior. We urge patience within our school community as we process these matters. The Greece Central School District has a clear Code of Conduct and all staff and students have been fully trained. The reported behaviors, if true, are a clear violation of our Code and will not be tolerated. The Greece Central School Districtis committed to providing students and staff with a safe environment that respects the dignity of all. We do not tolerate harassment of students or staff, or individuals placing themselves in compromising situations to gain the attention of others. Greece Athena High School is proud of its students and their many talents and accomplishments. Actions of a few should not undermine the hard work, commitment and dedication which most of our students demonstrate on a daily basis. I encourage you and your child to discuss the positives and negatives of social media and how, if used inappropriately, can have significant long-term consequences including on ones own reputation as well as that of others. Should you need assistance or have questions, please call 966-4043.
Thank you for your support.
