Welcoming ReceptionThe Welcoming Reception (Mixer) is scheduled from 6 to

8 p.m. Sunday in the Grand Ballroom of the PhiladelphiaSheraton Hotel (Headquarters Hotel). A wine and cheeseparty, complemented by native American foods and draftbeer, will be served. Entertainment will be provided by thePhilly Fanatic and an orchestra.

Tickets are $12.50 per person and may be purchased inadvance by using the advance registration form enclosed withthis Journal or by visiting the registration area on-site in thelobby of the Civic Center.

Opening SessionThe opening session or Plenary Session, which contains

keynote addresses and the APCA Business Meeting, formallyopens the conference at 9 a.m., Monday, in the Civic Center.Further details appear on page 473.

Advance RegistrationIt is to your advantage to register in advance for the meeting

since it entitles you to lower registration fees in most cases,and, for full and spouse registrations, is the only way to ensuretickets for the Annual Banquet. Entry badges and tickets willbe included in the registration packet which you will receiveupon arrival at the "preregistration" area in the lobby of theCivic Center.

The advance registration form is enclosed separately foryour use. It should also be used to register for all ContinuingEducation Courses, both the one- and two-day short coursesas well as the refresher courses. A check or money order (U.S.funds only) must accompany the registration form and bereceived at APCA Headquarters no later than June 8,1981.Advance registrations will not be accepted after that date.

Symposium on Particulate CollectionThis special symposium has been programmed as an inte-

gral part of the technical program by the APCA TechnicalCouncil and its TC-1 Particulate Control and TS-2.1 UtilityCommittees. It consists of two sessions on Tuesday and onesession on Wednesday, with solicited papers emphasizing fullscale and pilot demonstration work, and practical problem-solving, on coal-burning boiler installations.

Poster SessionsThree poster sessions are scheduled to coincide with the

APCA Exhibition. All three will be held in the rear of theExhibition Area in the Civic Center. For details, see technicalprogram. Poster sessions are marked with a "P".

On-site RegistrationAttendees will be able to register at the meeting but at

generally higher fees than available during advance registra-tion and with the possibility that Banquet tickets will not beavailable.

On-site registration will take place in the lobby of the CivicCenter Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m.; Monday through Thursday7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday 7:15 to 10 a.m.

President's LuncheonThe Annual President's Luncheon, preceded by a reception,

will be held at 12 noon Tuesday in Exhibition Hall "A" of theCivic Center. The Luncheon features the President's "stateof the Association" address and the annual APCA AwardPresentations.

Tickets are $12.50 per person and may be purchased in amanner similar to the Welcoming Reception tickets.

Annual BanquetThe Grand Ballroom of the Philadelphia Sheraton is the

site for the APCA Annual Banquet and Reception. The re-ception begins at 6 p.m. Thursday and will be immediatelyfollowed by the Banquet at 7:15 p.m.

The menu includes roast prime sirloin of beef, baked alaskaflambe on parade and wine. Entertainment will be providedby the All-Philadelphia Boys Choir and the Mummers.Dancing follows the entertainment.

Due to limited quantity and high demand, tickets areavailable only to attendees selecting a full registration for theconference. No tickets will be available for sale on-site. (seeregistration form enclosed)

Hotel Reservations and FeesComplete details and a reservation form appear on pages

471-472. The reservation form must be mailed to the HousingBureau in Philadelphia. NOT to APCA Headquarters inPittsburgh.

Housing information regarding other registrants will beavailable at the registration desk.

Special Bus ServiceA shuttle bus service will operate between major hotels and

the Civic Center at frequent intervals during the open hoursof the conference. Routes and times will be posted inlobbies.

Postal ServiceA post office substation for use by conference attendees and

participants will be available in the Exhibition area adjacentto the Preprint Booth from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 23,through Thursday, June 25.

Placement ServiceProfessional placement services will be provided for reg-

istrants and potential employers by the Pennsylvania Bureauof Job Service. The Placement Service will be located in theExhibition Area to the immediate left upon entering theAPCA Exhibition.

This service opens at 1 p.m. Monday and continues throughnoon Friday. Applications or vacancy forms may be obtainedby using the request form appearing in the March, April orMay 1981 issues of the Journal of the Air Pollution ControlAssociation, or by writing to APCA Headquarters in Pitts-burgh.

AuthorsAuthors delivering papers during the Technical Sessions

MUST REGISTER and obtain badges for entry before pro-ceeding to their respective sessions. This may be accomplishedat the Registration Area in the lobby of the Civic Center.

Authors are also expected to attend the complimentaryAuthors' Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in the Civic Center on the dayof their presentations. Authors' ribbons will be issued and lastminute changes, if any, will be discussed then.

Student Attendee HousingRooms will be provided in the University of Pennsylvania

dormitories at a rate of $17.50 per night per student based ondouble or triple occupancy. Only individuals working towarddegree programs full time are eligible.

Continuing Education ProgramBoth one- and two-day short courses and refresher courses

PreprintsPreprints of technical papers presented at the meeting will

be available in limited quantities at the Preprints Booth inthe Exhibition area. This booth will open at noon on Monday.Should supplies of individual papers run out, orders for laterdelivery may be placed.

In either case mentioned above, price per paper is $1.25 percopy. No orders will be accepted prior to the meeting.

Papers ordered from APCA Headquarters after the meetingwill be priced at $2.50 for APCA members and $3.50 for non-members. Prepayment in U.S. funds will be necessary forthese orders.

Press RoomThe Press Room will be located adjacent to the Registration

Area in the lobby of the Civic Center. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m.Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and8 a.m. to noon Friday.

A reception for the working press will be held immediatelyfollowing the Plenary Session Monday morning. Attendeesmust be badged for entry; working press credentials are re-quired for registration.

Message CenterThe Message Center, located in the Registration Area in the

lobby of the Civic Center, will operate from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday,and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Technical ToursConference registrants will have the opportunity to par-

ticipate in tours, providing an understanding and appreciationof process operations, pollution problems and control systems.

, Three tours are planned.Tickets will be available on a first-come-first-served basis

beginning Monday at the Registration Area in the lobby of theCivic Center. A bus seat reservation fee of $3.00 will be chargedfor each tour.

Buses for the Technical Tours will depart from the CivicCenter at 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Tour APhiladelphia Electric Company (Particulate and SO2 Re-moval Project)

Eddystone Units 1 & 2 are coal burning electric generatingunits approximately 20 years old, and have a combined grossoutput of about 700 megawatts. These units are being retro-fitted with wet particulate and SO2 scrubbers. The units wereoriginally equipped with mechanical collectors and electro-static precipitators for fly ash removal.

The new particulate scrubbers will utilize river water andthe new SO2 scrubbers will utilize magnesium oxide. Mag-nesium sulfite will be formed at the scrubbing plant and willbe regenerated to magnesium oxide at an offsite facility. Thetour will include a visit to the scrubbing plant constructionsite.

TourBARCO Petroleum Products Company (Philadelphia Re-finery)

ARCO's Philadelphia Refinery processes 185,000 barrelsof crude oil per day into gasoline, fuels and other byprod-ucts.

The refinery's new fluid catalytic cracking unit with itsfour-stage Polutrol Particulate Recovery System (with a

standby electrostatic precipitator) is featured in the tour alongwith the refinery's fugitive emission program.

TourCPhiladelphia Coke Company, Inc. (Control of Coke OvenPushing Emissions)

Dust liberated when coke is pushed from the coke oven intoa waiting hot car is collected in a travelling hood that is spottedwith the hot car prior to the pushing. 100,000 cfm is drawn outof the hood and discharged through a baghouse. No bag fail-ures have been experienced since the system went on-line inSeptember 1980 with polyester needled felt bags operatingat a 6.3:1 air to cloth ratio.

Of special interest in this tour will be the ducting arrange-ments for the movable hood and the details of configurationand installation to mate this new equipment with an existingbattery of coke ovens.

Student Tour

A student tour of the University of Pennsylvania's researchproject which is intended to clarify the movement of acids andheavy metals into and through a pristine portion of the NewJersey Pine Barrens is planned for Wednesday. The tour willconcentrate on the sampling and analytical techniques andthe results to date.

Departure time is 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Civic Center.Maximum number of attendees is limited to 40. Following thetour, a picnic lunch will be served at the Lebanon State ForestPark.
