Activities
The first class will be an introduction to the principles and elements, with the students entering notes into their ongoing folios.
On the excursion to Heide the students will go on the WAYS OF LOOKING Tour (promotes different ways of looking at, thinking about and engaging with art. Students are encouraged to discuss their ideas to help develop their verbal communication and observation skills. Contextual information is provided to support students' inquiries.), fill in a handout of three works of art with examples of the predominant elements and principles.
The Students will create their own personal reference book full of examples the they have created themselves of the Design Principles and Elements, with labels.

- As students work towards the achievement of Level 8 standards in the Arts, they use a range of starting points including observation, experience and research to represent, generate, develop and communicate real, imaginary and abstract ideas.
- in Visual Communication, students explore the potential of symbols and cartoons and elements of shape, line and colour to fulfill a design brief.
- Students explore and respond to arts works from a range of styles, forms, times, traditions and cultures.
- Students use appropriate arts language when discussing their own and other artists’ intentions and expressive use of arts forms, elements, principles and/or conventions
- Students work both independently and collaboratively to develop creative and effective ways of combining and manipulating arts elements, principles and/or conventions when designing, making and presenting arts works for particular purposes and audiences.
- They develop skills in analysing, interpreting and evaluating specific expressive, technical and aesthetic qualities of their own and others’ works
