Introduction (5 minutes) Show the students a video about Halloween. See YouTube link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_A2YUwJmpU&feature=related Ask students what they hear or see in the video. With the use of flashcards, guide the students to say the target words (Halloween, ghost, Jack-o-lantern, mask) II. Learning Activities (70 minutes) Play Halloween Smash Up. Divide the students into five groups. Ask one member of each group to come up to the board. Give each member a plastic hammer. Place the flashcards containing the target words on the board. The teacher says one of the four target words. The first student to hit the flashcard with the target word earns one point for the group. Ask those students to return to their seats and invite the next members of each group to come up. Repeat the steps until time is up. The group with the most points wins a prize. Review the target words with the students using the Halloween slideshow. Talk about the common activities observed on Halloween. Introduce the sentence and definition of trick or treat. Have the students create their own masks and Halloween bags. Divide the students into groups of five or six. Take each group trick or treating around the school. The students must say trick or treatto receive treats. While the other students are out trick or treating, the rest of the students can complete their Halloween worksheets. III. Conclusion (25 minutes) Play Halloween trivia with the students using the Halloween slideshow . Divide the students into groups. One member of each group will be given a bell. To answer a question, the members must ring the bell. The first student to ring the bell and answer the question correctly earns a point for the group. Then the bells are passed on to other group members. Repeat steps until time is up. The group with the most points wins a prize. Assessment Evaluation chart numbers 1 and 2.

Materials

Flashcards (Halloween, ghost, Jack-o’-lantern, mask), Plastic Hammers, Prizes,

Halloween Slideshow, Halloween Worksheets, Bells, Evaluation Chart

Procedures

I. Introduction (5 minutes)

Show the students a video about Halloween. See YouTube link below.

Ask students what they hear or see in the video.

With the use of flashcards, guide the students to say the target words (Halloween,

ghost, Jack-o’-lantern, mask)

II. Learning Activities (70 minutes)

Play Halloween Smash Up. Divide the students into five groups. Ask one member of

each group to come up to the board. Give each member a plastic hammer. Place the

flashcards containing the target words on the board. The teacher says one of the

four target words. The first student to hit the flashcard with the target word earns

one point for the group. Ask those students to return to their seats and invite the

next members of each group to come up. Repeat the steps until time is up.

The group with the most points wins a prize.

Review the target words with the students using the Halloween slideshow.
