PHRASAL VERBS

READING 2 Clothing Shopping with my husband

Going clothes shopping with your husband isn’t for the faint of heart. Every now and then I have to drag him to the mall to try on new clothes. He complains the whole time but he manages to pick out some really nice pieces. He doesn’t know it but he really does have a great sense of style.

Last week I noticed that Jason had worn out his socks, had grown out of his t-shirts and he needed to get rid of his old jeans. Jason has put on a few extra pounds lately and it is time to replace some of his favourites for new ones.

I made a deal with Jason. If he came shopping with me for 2 hours I would buy him dinner at his favorite restaurant. “Ok, fine, I’ll go” said Jason.

I had a list of items I wanted to pick up for Jason and so we headed to the first store on my list. I picked out 2 pairs of jeans and 2 t-shirts that I knew would make his beautiful green eyes stand out. “Jason, please take these and go with the salesperson to the changing area to try these on”. “Alright, here goes nothing”. Jason came out of the changing room with a huge smile on his face, looking absolutely incredible. “These jeans are so comfortable and they fit me perfectly; plus this t-shirt is much more flattering than the snug ones I have at home”. The salesperson folded up the clothes and put them on the counter so we could pay. I was beginning to think we wouldn’t need the full 2 hours.

The next stop was the shoe store. “I don’t need shoes Anne; the ones I have are fine”, said Jason. What is it with men and shoes; unless they have completely worn out the soles they refuse to buy more. “I think a nice loafer would be great with your new jeans, and you’re always complaining you don’t have a pair of shoes you can quickly slip into”. He agreed to try on a few pairs. As he was taking off his shoes to try on the new ones I noticed holes in his socks. “Sweetheart, our next stop will be the department store for new socks, and don’t even think of giving me a hard time regarding this one!” After trying on a few pairs of loafers Jason decided to go with the grey ones.

While the salesperson put away the pairs he didn’t want Jason said “I could wear these shoes when we travel. Think how easy and fast it will be when we have to remove our shoes at security”. I was happy Jason was seeing the benefit of adding a few pieces to his wardrobe.

After Jason picked out socks and boxer shorts, we were done. Jason turned to me and said “I’m just going to use the washroom before we head out to the restaurant, I’ll be right back, wait for me here”. A few minutes later he came back holding a bag. “What do you have there?” I said. “You’ve been so patient with me today so I think you could use a little something too”. I opened the bag and found a beautiful scarf to go with my jacket. “Jason, it’s beautiful, thank you so much!” “You’re welcome, now I’m ready to collect. Let’s eat!”
