Preface

The International Conference on Intelligent Computing (ICIC) was started to providean annual forum dedicated to the emerging and challenging topics in artificialintelligence, machine learning, pattern recognition, bioinformatics, and computationalbiology. It aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from both academia andindustry to share ideas, problems, and solutions related to the multifaceted aspects ofintelligent computing.

ICIC 2019, held in Nanchang, China, during August 3–6, 2019, constituted the 15thInternational Conference on Intelligent Computing. It built upon the success ofprevious ICIC conferences held in Wuhan, China (2018), Liverpool, UK (2017),Lanzhou, China (2016), Fuzhou, China (2015), Taiyuan, China (2014), Nanning,China (2013), Huangshan, China (2012), Zhengzhou, China (2011), Changsha, China(2010), Ulsan, Republic of Korea (2009), Shanghai, China (2008), Qingdao, China(2007), Kunming, China (2006), and Hefei, China (2005).

This year, the conference concentrated mainly on the theories and methodologies aswell as the emerging applications of intelligent computing. Its aim was to unify thepicture of contemporary intelligent computing techniques as an integral concept thathighlights the trends in advanced computational intelligence and bridges theoreticalresearch with applications. Therefore, the theme for this conference was “AdvancedIntelligent Computing Technology and Applications.” Papers focusing on this themewere solicited, addressing theories, methodologies, and applications in science andtechnology.

ICIC 2019 received 609 submissions from 22 countries and regions. All papers wentthrough a rigorous peer-review procedure and each paper received at least three reviewreports. Based on the review reports, the Program Committee finally selected 217high-quality papers for presentation at ICIC 2019, included in three volumes ofproceedings published by Springer: two volumes of Lecture Notes in Computer Science(LNCS), and one volume of Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI). Thisvolume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) includes 72 papers.

The organizers of ICIC 2019, including Tongji University, Nanchang Institute ofTechnology, and East China Institute of Technology, as well as Shandong University atWeihai, made an enormous effort to ensure the success of the conference. We herebywould like to thank the members of the Program Committee and the referees for theircollective effort in reviewing and soliciting the papers. We would like to thank AlfredHofmann, executive editor from Springer, for his frank and helpful advice andguidance throughout, and for his continuous support in publishing the proceedings.
