Multimedia Last week we had an excellent time celebrating Literacy and Numeracy Week. Our students were busy making their own games, which included things like rules, instructions, boards, pieces and other resources to play them. This was a collaborative task that saw students working in groups to make their games. Everyone worked really well together and it was great to see the high levels of engagement when the students got a chance to rotate around and play each others games. Thanks to the parents and guardians who were able to make it in to play the games.

Our Inquiry “Adobe Kids Voices” has been going well. This week our students have been learning about Story Boards. They have been watching short clips and using a Story Board to retell these, as well as used a Story Board to make their own story. All of this is learning that they will call upon later on in the Inquiry, when the groups use a Story Board to plan their passion or message. In the area of Mathematics, we have had a big focus on the use of strategies to help with completing subtraction equations. It is fantastic to see how far the students have come over the course of the year.

As we approach Term 4, we would like to give a friendly reminder that it is requirement for students to wear a sun safe hat at school. Although many of our students like baseball hats, unfortunately these hats aren’t sun safe. Before the end of Term we will send home a reminder notice.

Middle Years Learning CentreWhat a fantastic term it has been for learning experiences in Middle Years and across the school! The Book Week theme of ‘Escape to Everywhere’ saw classrooms exploring their imagination through a variety of literacy based activities. These included, read-alouds around the school, character scavenger hunts, colourful door displays, as well as the much loved Book Week dress up! To top it all off, Middle Years participated in a wonderful incursion titled ‘Super Duper’ which brought to life many of the books the students have explore this term!

In Literacy and Numeracy week the whole school participated in The Amazing Race challenge which saw classrooms collaborating to problem solve and earn their group points. Thank you to the parents and caregivers who came to participate in the festivities of the week both supporting and extending your child’s learning. And finally, just a reminder that it’s important your child is wearing the correct school uniform to school every day. If students are wearing an extra jumper due to the cold weather this also needs to be uniform. Enjoy the last few weeks of term!

Groups 22, 23, 24 & 25Welcome to another exciting week! Last week was Literacy & Numeracy week and PLT 2 would like to thank all the parents/ carers who came in for the Maths Challenge rotation that was held in Groups 22, 23, 24 and 25! A great time was had by everyone! We are always encouraging parents to come in and see what their child is learning about at school and to join in on the fun that we have at Warringa Park!

It is almost time for PLT 2 to send off their stuffed toy classmate to their exchange school. Classes have been getting their stuffed toy ready for their big journey; the toys from Groups 22 and 23 will be travelling to Ascot Vale School and the toys from Groups 24 and 25 will be travelling to The Rainbow Centre in Singapore! Everyone is very excited to receive their exchange student and look forward to learning about them! Have a wonderful week.Olivia

Groups 19, 39, 40, 41 & 42Well, week 8 got off to a big start this week with the Super Dooper theatre group incursion. The play we saw was about a boy who used his imagination to bring storybook characters to life and his battle against Doctor Dismal. Our classes thoroughly enjoyed wathching the show which included books we shared in Book Week as well as the themes of resilience, feedom and friendship.

We have also been learning about measuring volume and capacity this week using diffferent materials - water, blocks, rice and beans. We have been working out which containers hold more or less and comparing them.

Our shared class text this week was “The Great Big Mean Dust Bunny”. We have been using it to learn about reading letter sounds in workds and making workds that rhyme.

Later Years WPSThere were lots of smiles in Later

BRC NewsYesterday the Bethany Road and Later Years Learning centres celebrated the Wyndham Learning Festival by hosting our Spring Market. All of the Later Years students took part in some aspect of the day from leading upcycled games, serving coffee and yummy cafe goodies, photography, selling plants, drumming, teaching how to use the spheros, DJing and selling Cayley creations products and textiles making. It was wonderful to see the collaboration from all of the Later Years staff and students. There was a lot of work behind the scenes from teachers and ES staff and I would like to thank everyone for their contribution. Thank you to the parents and special guests who supported this Later Years event. I look forward to further spring markets across the Later Years.

News from Katarnya...The past two weeks have been very exciting at the Bethany Road Campus. Year 8 and 9 had a Robotics incursion in which they got to build their own motorised robot. The robot’s purpose was to grab a small basketball and drop it in a hoop. Students had fun getting hands on with the different parts to build something that would achieve the desired result.

Bowling has begun this week for interschool sports for some students. This sport has allowed students the opportunity to participate that have not yet had a chance to join in the interschool sporting events. They are all excited to take part.

Tuesday the 5th of September students and staff opened the campus to friends, family and the public for the Wyndham Learning Festival. All Later Years Campuses came together to showcase just how talented our students are. There were products available for purchase, a Café with a variety of food and coffee for purchase. Workshops were run demonstrating textiles, coding and spheros, stencil art, drumming, gardening, games and more. Much fun was held by all and it was great seeing so many members of our community attend.

KianLast term I worked in Coles and I started at 9 to 5 I worked for 5 days the duties I did was cleaning, stocking shelves, crusher, labelling numbers onto the shelves and I worked in the bakery department.

I had to put the labels on the bread and I also had to label the cookies and we had to pack it into a plastic container we also had to get the cookies out of the freezer and we had to put it on to a tray then we had to put it into the oven.

VCAL Student ReportsOn Monday we go sailing at Albert Park Lake. We put on our life jackets to go on the sailing boat. We go around the island. Last week I sailed on my own. I found it easy but there were no wind it was very slow. (By Kyaw Min Tun)

On Tuesday I do volunteering at BlackWood outdoor education centre. We meet at Warringa Park School and then we travel by school bus to Blackwood. It takes an hour to there. At Blackwood the jobs that I do are: raking leaves, demolishing an old shed, wood stacking, and general maintenance. I work hard at Blackwood. My favourite job is raking leaves. Sometimes we get to do archery when we finish our work. I like the program.(From Kue Gay)

On Tuesdays, We go to Vinnies in Altona North to do volunteering. We rotate clothes which had a coloured tag (either red, blue, yellow, or green), we sort clothes from ladies, men and children, we hang them on coat hangers, We put clothes with stains, holes, or rips into the overseas bin. We sort toys, bric-a-brac and other used and household items. At the start of our day, we get a book from Bob, the store manager to sign in and sign out at the end of the day. My favourite job from Vinnies is sorting clothes from the bags because some people used to wear them for years and years. I’ve made up one rule in Vinnies is “No silly noises allowed because it could distract other people who are trying to work”. I like working in Vinnies because it’s a good op shop to go to. And maybe next time, I would like to work in Salvos store in Hoppers Crossing. (By Anthony)

VCAL NewsVCAL students’ access to work experience placements continues to grow and this term we have more students participating in individual placements one day a week at a variety of work places, industries and community organizations. I have had the opportunity to visit a number of students doing work experience recently and I have been very pleased with how well prepared they have been and how committed they have been towards having a successful placement. Special mention must go to two of our students Ranka and Ella who have received very positive reports from their respective work place employers and they have been successful in gaining employment from these placements. Well done Ranka and Ella.

We were recently informed that students undertaking a traineeship with SecondBite will be receiving a letter regarding the organisation relocating to a new premises as of Term 4. We are working closely with SecondBite to try to ensure that the change of venue does not cause too much disruption to our students enrolled in this program and to support the students to finish their certificate program in warehousing this year.

Finally, congratulations to all VCAL staff and students who took part in the Spring Market that took place at our Campus this week. The market had a very positive feel and there was a real sense of pride with students showcasing the work and programs that they have been working on this year. There was a lot of very positive collaboration that took place from students across all campuses and when reflecting on the day, there were many students who commented that there should be more opportunities like this or perhaps we should do something like the Spring Market every term!

On Thursday I go to the Automotive in Docklands. When we go to Automotive we wear our PPE Personal Protective Equipment with overalls and high vest. Last week, I used a soldering iron and we need to be very careful if it’s very very hot. We put soldered wires that they needed to be put together into a circuit. I used different colours of wires. We used the colours to match the colour in the correct circuit where they should go.And when the soldering wires were done they need to be cleaned up by drying with a small sponge and tiding the workshop. (By Avash)

On Wednesday I go to 100 Montague Street for cooking in Hospitality. Last week we cooked fried rice. The ingredients where red and green capsicums, carrots, onions, celery, spring onion and chickens. I diced red and green capsicums, celery and spring onion and scraped a carrot. Me and Noah roasted the chicken and other students grilled the chicken and make poach chicken, I fried carrots, red and green capsicums, onion, celery and rice. I put fried rice and put poach, grill and roast chicken in the bowl and mix them together. It was delicious and I wish I can cook fried rice at home. (by Jimmy)
