Management and Administration Programme: The National Certificate in Business Administration qualification was designed to include relevant life skills required in the business world, such as how to plan and organise oneself and work, as well as working as an effective member of a team. The learner is provided with background knowledge and the opportunity to practise and develop skills relating to personal time management, planning and prioritising work, developing self-confidence and positive attitudes, adhering to codes of conduct and much more. Novia One (Incorporating Hedge Fund Academy) is currently a provider of specialist technical programmes to a number of the Banks, Corporates and other financial institutions and the South African regulators such as the FSB, SARB and National Treasury. This programme can be attended as a stand-alone programme or as a Learnership.

Learnership Benefits to Companies:

BEE Scorecard & Structuring With the introduction of the amended BEE codes, skills development has become even more important under the codes. Through this program Novia One (Incorporating Hedge Fund Academy) would be able to optimise the employers spend on learnerships to provide maximum points towards the scorecard by proving a structured solution. As a Level 1, 100% black female owned QSE, a key focus for the Novia One team is to consult with all clients on the optimisation of their scorecard and have the ability to positively impact areas such as skills development, enterprise development, supplier development and procurement. Module 1: Fundamentals of Business English

• The communication process.

• Communication barriers.

• Pronunciation, accent, diction, dialect.

• Conflict and conflict resolution.

• Non-verbal aspects.

• Speaking techniques.

• Body language.

• Listening skills.

• Directions, instructions and demonstrations.

• Reading strategies, textual features, visual literacy

• Employment correspondence

• Meeting documentation

• Correspondence in the workplace (spelling, rules and conventions, abbreviations, acronyms, roots, prefixes, gender, plurals, comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives and adverbs commonly confused)

• Homophones and homonyms; synonyms, antonyms, one word for a phrase.

• Parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, pronouns and adverbs; verb tenses and verb forms; subject, object, predicate; simple, compound, complex sentences; conjunctions, pronouns; active and passive voice; direct and indirect speech; negative forms; concord; punctuation

Module 2: Fundamentals of Mathematics

• Decimal numbers, fractions, percentages. Rounding off numbers, significant digits. Value Added Tax (VAT). Units of length, area, volume temperature

• Patterns, tables and graphs.

• Direct and inverse proportion.

• Simple and compound interest; compound increase and decrease; costs and revenue.

• Graphs on Cartesian axes (dependent and independent variables); more than one graph on a system of axes.

• Personal and business finances, taxation, pension and medical deductions, PAYE.

• Length and distances, perimeters and areas of polygons, volumes/areas of right prisms, right circular cylinders, cones and spheres, surface areas of right prisms, angle sizes

Module 3: Fundamentals of Accounting

• Within the context of the accounting cycle, the unique information for a company and close corporation is recorded manually and/or by using an accounting package.

• The effect of transactions on the accounting equation for close corporations and companies is recorded.

• Reconciliations for bank, debtors and creditors are analysed and interpreted.

• Final accounts and financial statements of close corporations and companies are prepared, analysed and interpreted.

• Published financial statements and audit reports of companies are analysed.

• The principles of VAT are applied in different situations.

• Cost information for a manufacturing enterprise is prepared, presented, analysed and reported on by compiling a production cost statement.

• A projected income statement and cash budget for a sole trader (and also in a manufacturing environment) is prepared, analysed and interpreted.

• Asset disposal is interpreted and reported on.

• Inventories are validated with specific reference to manufacturing enterprises.

• Disciplinary and punitive measures to be applied for non-compliance to the code of ethics and the role of professional bodies are discussed.

• Internal control and internal audit processes are applied in a business environment

Module 4: Fundamentals of Governance

• Definition of governance including participation, rule of law, accountability, transparency, equity, responsiveness

• Understanding of sources and history of SA law

• Understanding of company law, codes of governance

• Framework of professional values, ethics and attitudes for exercising professional judgement and acting in an ethical manner, that is in the best interest of society

• Consequences of unethical behaviour to the individual, profession and society is described

• A basic understanding of risk management as an essential part of the governance of a business organisation is demonstrated.

Module 5: Fundamentals of Office Administration

• Create business reports (form, content, compilation, reporting, etc.)

• Manage information systems (filing systems, admin systems, it systems, policies, procedures, confidentiality)

• Data management systems are assessed, established and maintained to ensure organised electronic and paper records for the workplace.

• An understanding of customer service is demonstrated
