General

New Vector and Plane Definitions Methods

The new “screen normal” method uses a vector defined normal to the screen. The new “screen parallel” uses a vector defined within/parallel to the screen. These are useful when a user wants to manipulate their model view in a specific way, and use the screen as the defining object for creating a vector or plane.

New Collision Detection Tool

A new collision detection tool is available for LS-Dyna and RADIOSS solver interfaces. This tool like penetration check panel will allow user to identify and resolve penetrations and intersections in a model for entity types like Contacts (Groups) and Components.

The tool can be accessed from the Tools menu.

Components as selection for Collision Check Collision Check Results for Selected Components

Seat Deformer with Pre-Simulation

The Seat Deformer Tool is available in LS-Dyna and RADIOSS user profiles. It enables to export an input deck for the appropriate solver, in order to simulate the deformation of the seat under the dummy. The simulation result file can be imported to update the initial FE model and thus remove the intersections and penetrations between the dummy and the seat.

The initial model with the dummy positioned at its correct H-Point location, but, showing intersections with the seat.

The pre-simulation load case is automatically set-up and the dedicated input deck is exported to the user specified location.

When the solver analysis is done, the user can import the dedicated solver output file to update the initial model with the deformed geometry and initial stresses on the seat parts.

Mechanism and Dummy Tools - Enhancements

• Ball joint limits are now written at export in the related keyword.

• Correction on color used for components not involved in body while setting element color mode to “by body”.

• Graphical display of related dummy and mechanism entities (joint, constraints) is automatically OFF in any Browsers other than the Mechanism Browser.

• By linking a dummy to a seat mechanism, the selected child bodies are now highlighted on the graphic area.

• In the Dummy context menu, a new option to delete the dummy tree and all related entities is now added.

Mesh/Geometry Appearance

Miscellaneous Enhancements

• Ability to drag and drop a component out of an Assembly.

• ID Manager is now showing both reserves and conflicts count at the include level. In previous releases, those counts were only available at the entity level.

Resolved Issues

• Performance improvements (up to 85%) while deleting a large model and closing HyperMesh session loaded with a large model.

• Application crashes when exporting self-contained include while turning off the ‘ID Rules’ check.

• ID Manager expands all includes when you add minimum and maximum range for an include.

• Favorite Panels are not stored when the session is saved using HyperMesh Desktop.

• Export of Self Contained include does not honor Entity State Export settings.

• Query builder search in browser is not working consistently.

• 1D elements are hard to pick when located in front of 2d Elements.

• We have worked with NVIDIA to fix crashes and hangs with the NVIDIA 370 series driver on an Optimus setup (Intel/NVIDIA hybrid GPU). Fix is now available in NVIDIA driver version 376.99 and higher.

Connectors

Seam Connector Imprint Enhancements

When the mesh is associated to geometry, its edges are kept in consideration as far as possible. Only close to the imprinted area the edges are ignored.

If no geometry is available important features will still be detected by using a feature angle. Those can be defined separately per each connector now to be able to react on areas with special needs.

When a seam end is close to another seam it is allowed now, that they can share the same imprinted elements.

Additional mesh patterns have been introduced for in order to create better meshes, when realizing bent quad seam realizations. The user can decide between single and double quad corners.

New parameters describe the maximum deviation from the perfect element for the imprint area. This allows successful realizations even in more complex cases. The user can control whether the element size or the element skew is more important to keep.

Page 12: Learn more at altairhyperworks - 알테어blog.altair.co.kr/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hwDesktop2017.1... · WinProp v.14.5 ©2000-2017 . Altair ... Desktop™ ©2008-2012; and e-Compute™

HyperWorks Desktop 2017.1 Release Notes 7

Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

Washer elements can be preserved from being remeshed when a close quad seam gets imprinted. The user can choose to preserve the washer as is or maintain it with a modified mesh.

Autopitch Improvements

The spot connector distribution along a flange has been changed in a manner, that the distribution starts in the middle of the flange in order to be able to fulfill the spot pitch end offset on both sides.

A parameter has been added to check for the differences of the projection distances. When activated, distances are checked against an average distance per flange; if the deviation is larger than the given limit, the spot is not created at those positions.

Reference and Indexing System

A functional connection often needs more than just the connecting elements; furthermore certain

Page 13: Learn more at altairhyperworks - 알테어blog.altair.co.kr/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hwDesktop2017.1... · WinProp v.14.5 ©2000-2017 . Altair ... Desktop™ ©2008-2012; and e-Compute™

contacts, materials, properties, etc. might be needed. The reference and indexing system is capable to identify, what exactly is used by each individual connector, which qualifies the tool to know, which of those entities might not be used anymore, when a connector gets unrealized or deleted. This system can be activated in the connector options and works also for absorbed connectors.

Miscellaneous Enhancements

• CWELD and CFAST elements can be absorbed and find their links by interpreting the element card information now. An additional projection check guarantees, that the found information is still reasonable. Incomplete element definitions are resulting in failed connectors, instead of not absorbing them at all. For GS CWELDs the connector is created at the GS node position.

• Connectors listed at the end of include files are considered during import now, too.

Resolved Issues

• The sealing vector calculation along connector lines has been corrected. Independent of the connector spacing the vector is created as bisector of the angle of three sequential test points.

• Performance for changing the realization type of many realized connectors in the connector Entity Editor has been improved.

• A segmentation error for importing .mcf files with specific meta data has been resolved.

• The command hm_ce_getprojectiondata returns all projection points now.

• Combining connectors of same realization type leads to a combined connector of the same realization type now.

• In some scenarios the absorption of adhesives with group links came up with wrong grouped links.

Washers can now additionally be defined using a subtraction formula. For example, to set a washer to be 8 less the hole radius, the washer definition would look like the last column:

Auto Quality Correction

Significant improvements to the Elem Cleanup panel have been implemented. These improvements are aimed at streamlining the cleanup process by adding new functionality, and reducing the overall time needed to correct the element quality.

Highlights include:

• Updated and streamlined panel layout:

• The following settings are taken from the standard param file and used during the clean-up

operation:

• The param file settings that define how far nodes can move away from edges, or normal to surfaces, are now honored during the clean-up operation.

• By default, all associated geometry will be utilized as part of the clean-up (if any exists). If this is not desired, the user must disassociate the FE from the geometry.

• Ability to easily select and review failing elements, optionally including adjacent layers which can be used to correct the quality of the failing elements.

Page 15: Learn more at altairhyperworks - 알테어blog.altair.co.kr/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/hwDesktop2017.1... · WinProp v.14.5 ©2000-2017 . Altair ... Desktop™ ©2008-2012; and e-Compute™

• Optionally, feature edges (1D elements) and anchor nodes can be selected and preserved in the clean-up operation.

• Separate options are available to optionally allow re-meshing to correct failed elements and/or to reduce trias.

Elements Normal Adjustment

The Normals panel auto orientation mode has a new “feature angle” option. This allows for the user to define the feature angle by with the connected sections are defined. This is useful when there are many ribs or t-connections in the model, and the default internal feature angle is not creating the connected sections as desired.

Auto result with default feature angle Result with feature angle = 50.0

Mesh Controls

A new Mesh Controls folder is now available within the Model browser:

Highlights

Flexible Reports provide more capabilities in the Channel Mapping tool; horizontal and vertical axes can be auto-fitted separately during report overlay. PowerPoint Publishing supports embedded AVI videos within MS PowerPoint as they would be supported when inserted manually by a PowerPoint user. In addition, media files can be published without being recaptured, which improves the video quality. The Build Plots panel has been enhanced to make it easier to parse through multiple result files. TableView improvements for more Excel like cell editing have been added, together with enhancements to the LS-Dyna interface.

Flexible Report Template Improvements

Auto-connect similar channels

• If the user wants to manually connect one or more channels without similar channels updating automatically, this can be achieved by deselecting the new "Auto-connect similar channels" option. This makes it possible to map channels which had the same data type but different requests in result file "A", with channels in result file "B" where the data types are different but the requests are the same.

• The "Autofit" option can be applied to either the horizontal or vertical axis separately. This makes it possible to lock the x or y axis settings as new plots are overlaid.

MotionView

Highlights

MotionView 2017.1 brings in new exciting functionalities such as exporting as a functional mock-up unit (FMU), a new Truck library, and many other improvements.

Archiving Model

MotionView now offers the ability to create an archive of the model collecting all the needed reference files along with the MDL at a given location. This capability helps the user while sharing the model saving the effort of collecting the reference files and changing path references in the MDL.

• An archive folder is created at a given location with a new mdl saved in it

• All files referenced by the model (Except files from the install) is copied into the folder

• All path references in the copied mdl is removed so that the references are local to the mdl

• An option is available to zip the content upon creation

Use the File > Export > Model to archive the model.

MotionView Model as a Functional Mock-up Unit (FMU)

A MotionSolve model can now be exported as a Functional Mock-up Unit that can be used in all applications that support FMU such as sT/Activate. Communication to the FMU occurs through a standard set of functions that are known as the Functional Mock-up interface (FMI).

This capability enables you to:

• Easily add multi-physics to your MBS model by including thermal, electrical and control systems,

• Interface with MODELICA based components,

• Connect with other solvers that support the FMI standard

Use the File > Export > Model to export the model as an FMU:

Performance Improvements

Performance has been significantly improved in the following areas:

• MotionView memory usage

• 2D rigid body contact

MotionView memory usage

• MotionView 14.0.110 and later used higher memory for graphics rendering. The memory usage is now optimized for cylinder and sphere graphics. This change should result in lower memory consumption on full vehicle models that could use large number of spheres or cylinders.

Enhanced performance for 2D rigid body contact

• The panel for 2D contact in MotionView has been modified to make the planarity check for curves explicit operation. This is a labor-intensive operation and you perform it only when you want to do by selecting the Identify Planarity option.

Interoperability between solidThinking Inspire Motion and MotionSolve

Multibody models created with solidThinking Inspire Motion can be opened in MotionView. Simply use the Export button on the ‘Run Motion Analysis window’ to export the motion model (including analysis settings) as a MotionView file (.mdl) with geometry (.x_t).

New Full Vehicle Events

In 2017.1 when you build a full car or truck model for use with Altair Driver you gain access to a new set of full vehicle events. You add these events to your model using MotionView’s browser context menu rather than the task wizard. Using these events you can:

• Add multiple events to your model, including any number of the same event. For example three single lane change events run at different speeds: 10 m/s, 11 m/s and 12 m/s.

• Select, build, run and edit events from the context menu, including editing the solver .xml file and Altair driver (.adf) file

• Edit event parameters and simulation settings using new event specific dialogs

• Understand event purpose and parameters via descriptions and diagrams on the event panel and editor dialog

• View plots and animations using standard event reports

Each event you add to your model has an associated panel that describes event and a dedicated event editor dialog for editing event and simulation parameters. For example, below are the panel and editor dialog associated the Constant Radius Cornering Event.

New Auto Tire Entity

A new AutoTire pair and single entities supports CDTire, FTIRE, and MF-TYRE/MF-SWIFT tire models. Previously to change tire models, for example from MF-TYRE to FTIRE, required you deactivate or delete the autoMFTire entity and add an AutoCtiTire entity. With the new AutoTire you need only switch tire and road property files. The new AutoTire single and pair entities include these helpful features:

• Reads tire dimensions from the selected tire property file and resizes the tire graphics automatically

• Provides context sensitive help by pressing the “Help” button

• Integrates road graphics generation for supported road types (3D Spline, CRG and RGR roads)

The new AutoTire entity features an enhanced GUI.

Proprietary Information of Altair Engineering

NOTE: The existing entities autoCTITire, autoCDTire, and autoMFTire remain supported and existing MotionView models using these entities are NOT updated to the new autoTire. However, beginning in release 2018 we plan to automatically update models to the autoTire. MotionView models using autoCTITire, autoCDTire, and autoMFTire when read into MotionView 2018 will be converted to use the autoTire. With release 2019 Altair plans to end support for autoCTITire, autoCDTire, and autoMFTire.

Cosin FTIRE

Integration of MotionSolve with Cosin FTIRE is improved. With this update you can set the environment variable COSIN_PREFIX to point to the FTIRE installation you want MotionSolve to load. If the environment variable COSIN_PREFIX is not set, then MotionSolve searches your home directory as before for the cosin.ini file to determine where your installation of FTIRE resides. When you use COSIN_PREFIX, you must also set the environment variable COSIN_LMSERVER to point to your FTIRE license server.

Resolved Issues

• An issue with User Defined Template not being executed after the first execution has been resolved

• The usage of key “I” for interface nodes in flexprep in batchmode was broken. This issue has been fixed.

• RES to DAC conversion of fatigueprep added an extra data point with 0.0 as value at the beginning of the data. This issue has been resolved

• mnf file path written under FLEX_BODY statement for Adams export has been changed. If the flexible body uses a flex h3d to generate an mtx, the mnf path would be the same as that of h3d. If the flexible body uses an existing mtx, the mnf path would be the same as that of mtx. The mnf path was earlier set as the same path as the adm file.

• It is now possible to pick point/vector from geometry in the Beam and Polybeam panel with the “Allow CAD feature recognitions” is turned ON in Tools > Options > Build Model

• A panel update issue with 2D contacts where the body information is not being updated when the body of the curve is changed has been fixed

LS-DYNA Interface

Highlights

New Cross Section Assistant

From the Model Browser, the creation of cross sections is now driven by a Cross Section Assistant. This tool makes the creation of single or multiple LS-Dyna cross-sections completely automatic.

New Collision Detection Tool

A new collision detection tool is available and is accessible from the Tools > Collision Detection pull down.

New Entity for Seat Belt Keywords

Enhancement offered for the support of the following LS-DYNA keywords:

*ELEMENT_SEATBELT_PRETENSIONER

*ELEMENT_SEATBELT_RETRACTOR

*ELEMENT_SEATBELT_SLIPRING

The keywords were originally mapped to HyperMesh entity type element mass. Now HyperMesh treats them as independent entities, each with unique ID, icon and with the exception of Pretensioner also a new graphic representation.

Among the major benefits now no ID conflicts or renumbering in import will occur when a retractor slipring or pretensioner has the ID already taken by other entities.

Old HyperMesh file are mapped directly to this new entity without data loss. The newly added entities are no longer supported using the HyperMesh panel. They can only be edited in the Entity Editor. Creation of the entity can be achieved using context menu in the browser or through other shortcut such as the CTRL+F tool recently introduced.

HyperWorks Licensing

Highlights

Altair provides a unique and innovative license mechanism that allows users to maximize productivity and functionality when using the HyperWorks suite of programs. HyperWorks 2017.1 Licensing provides a number of new features and bug fixes with the latest release of HyperWorks 2017.1. New products have been added, as well as an update of the license system.

The highlights of HyperWorks 2017.1 product licensing are following:

Upgrade to Altair License Manger 13.1

The Altair License System has been updated to 13.1, providing better reliability and bugs fixes.

Licenses now checkout “atomically”, preventing client applications from getting ‘locked’ to a license server that may satisfy part of the checkout request but all of it as far as features are concerned. If a server can not satisfy the complete request, the client will continue searching down the license path until it finds one that can, or exhausts the list.

The Altair License Manager 13.0 (or later updates) is required to run HyperWorks 2017 and updates. It is backward compatible with previous HyperWorks versions.

The way the ALM utility determines a host ID from a hard disk has changed. If you use a hard disk ID for either a node-locked or server-based license, you may need an updated license file. Use the ALM GUI utility to be sure of your hard disk ID.

Resolved Issues

• Fixed license related application errors when switching clients (HyperView, HyperMesh, HyperGraph, and MotionView

• Fixed license failure with certain applications making multiple checkouts

• Fixed special case when malformed license server string causes an application crash
