TRANSCRIPT
At Pepperberry we believe it is vitally important for par-ents/carers and families to be kept informed of devel-opments and activities at nursery. I can’t believe I have already completed a month at Pepperberry and I want to thank all the staff, parents and children for making me feel so wel-come. Following on from our par-
ent focus group In October
thoughts and ideas have
been put into practice.
These included a reminder
for parents of the book and
song of the month, this is
now displayed on each
room’s door so you are able
to discuss this with your
child.
I have appointed Hannah Baxter as our transition co-ordinator, and her role is to liaise with the seniors in
each room when children are ready to move up and ensures the transition is smooth for all. We have transition boxes for parents these are in reception for Babies and Tiny Peppers and outside each room for Sweet, Chilli’s and Grand’s with information on the staff and in-formation you may want to know about the next room
The children have been taking part in a variety of activities in-cluding visits to the cenotaph for Remembrance Day, Diwali and Thanksgiving and we are look-ing forward to a busy month in December getting into the Christmas spirit, and we are already busy practising our Christmas songs.
Finally, thank-you for supporting our spotty day in aid of Children in Need we raised a fantastic £122.82.

Please can all parents ensure that their child is col-
lected at 1pm or 6pm prompt. If children are left
after this time this interferes with ratios and the
setting is not insured outside of our opening times.
Could parents please refrain from bringing hair clips
for the under 2 year olds as this can be a chocking
hazard.
We politely request that parents dropping off or
collecting children at 1pm after the morning session
to consider that there are sleeping children and enter
the unit quietly so that the children sleeping are not
disturbed.
Please could your child refrain from bringing money
or toys with small parts that could come loose into
the nursery as this can be a chocking hazard. Com-
fort toys are accepted.
As you are aware we have numerous children with
dietary requirements please could you ensure that
your child does not take food or drinks into any
rooms
Our local children’s hairdresser Little Big Heads
now come to Pepperberry every 6 weeks so
please keep an eye out for the posters and book
in for the next time they come in. Their next
booked visit is Wednesday 16th December 2015.
If you are on Facebook please ‘like’ Pepperber-
ry’s page. I would like to say a big Thank You to
those parents/carers who have already made a
comment on our facebook page. All comments
are very much appreciated. www.facebook.com/

We have also introduced self-
service breakfast and snack in
Sweet, Chilli and Grand Pep-
pers. This allows the children
to have a choice, and encour-
ages the children to develop
their independence and skills
such as hand-eye co-
ordination.
We have introduced a home
reading scheme in Chilli and
Grand Peppers to enable your
child to take a book home to
read with you. You can pur-
chase a Pepperberry book bag
to take part in this which
matches our preschool
uniform. Please ask the staff
in the room if you would like
your child to take part in this.
Each month in our newsletter we
introduce you to a new member of
our staff team where they tell
you a little more about them-
selves. This is to help you get to
know the staff a little better.
This month we will be introducing
Kealan Storey. Kealan is an early
years assistant in Tiny Peppers.
Kealan is the oldest of three siblings and enjoys looking after them.
Kealan enjoys working with children and in the future would like to work
with children with disabilities . I hop to continue my training and gain
my level 3 in child care.

Kealan Storey
Stevie Clare (Senior); Kimberley Jack,
Monika Kaczorowska; Jeny Zago This month baby peppers have been
very busy doing lots of fun activities
around our topic of light and dark. Baby
peppers have been looking at our book
of the month
about ‘The very
noisy night’, it has
taught the babies
to listen to differ-
ent sounds such
as “woo hoo” “drip
drip” etc books, we explored the objects
that were in the book with object that we
had in the room to learn what they are
called as well as exploring outside to
listen to noises and identify them.
This month the babies have enjoyed go-
ing out on our trip into Wilmslow town
centre to go to the memorial garden we
went with children from other room to
show our respect and to lay down the
poppies we created. The children enjoyed
looking at the names that were on the
cenotaph which the practitioner pointed to
and read out.
The children have also enjoyed exploring
the shaving foam and paints during
messy play as well as different colours
objects. We made marks in the foam with
our fingers and hands some of us tried to
eat the foam! At circle time the children
have also enjoyed singing “Twinkle Twin-
kle little star” to learn about light and dark,
day and night.
We have also had lot of fun playing
outside in nursery wetsuit to keep our-
selves dry when the floor was wet to
develop on our physical skills. The
children enjoyed climbing up and down
on the soft play, the older babies that
can pull themselves into a standing
position have enjoyed learning to take
some steps with the walker or by hold-
ing onto the practitioner hands as well
as cruising alongside the fence.
Our book of the month for December is
“That’s not my reindeer” and our rhyme
of the month is “When Santa got stuck
up the chimney”

This month Tiny Peppers have been ex-ploring the topic of light and dark. Our book of the month was ‘Owl Babies’. As
practitioners read the book, the children have learnt about the sounds owls make and what happens at night time. Tiny
peppers have been making owls for our display using lots of paint! Our song of the month was ‘twinkle twinkle little star.’ All of the children have enjoyed singing the song and learning all the actions. Tiny Peppers have been making lots of shiny stars of all different sizes, covered in glitter.
On remembrance day we made some Tiny Pepper handprints to create a wreath. We then took the wreath down to the memorial gardens. Tiny peppers learnt about remem-brance day and laid the wreath down with the others. Tiny Peppers celebrated bonfire night this month. We talked about all the colours and noises we see and hear from the firework displays. We made lots of fire work crafts including firework pictures, bonfire painting and edible sparklers. We made our own bonfire using sticks and tissue paper and the created sparklers. Once made we all sat around the pretend bonfire, shaking our sparklers and singing songs. Tiny Peppers have also celebrated Diwali this month. All the children got involved making Diva lamps, mixing and making the clay into different shapes. We have been exploring Rangoli patterns using lots of dif-ferent textures and bright colours to make our very own giant Rangoli pattern.
The children enjoyed sticking on the pieces of paper and getting messy!
Tiny Peppers have enjoyed learning more about different sounds that ob-jects and animals make around the room within circle time. We have also been leaning lots of new Christmas songs with Beryl, ready for Christmas!
Well done to all the Tiny Pepper chil-dren who dressed up in spots for chil-dren in need! We had lots of fun col-ouring in pictures of Pudsey Bear and making our very own Pudsey masks using lots of spots.
Our Book of the month for December is “The Gruffalo’s Child” and our Rhyme of the month is “Jingle Bells”

This month in Chilli Peppers we have been focussing on our book of the month and our letter of the month. Our letter of the month is ‘ n’ which links to our book of the month which is ‘Noah's Ark’. We have done many creative activities that link with the book of the month such as making boats out of salt dough, sponge stencil painting of animals. We have
also made our own Noah's ark boat with rainbows which went our Noah’s ark display that the children was in-volved with. We have read our book of the month every morning and the children have enjoyed it. We have used our interactive whiteboard to focus on our letter ‘n’ this has mostly been done by using our jolly phonics software. We do our jolly phonics every morning with in circle time which links in with our writing activi-ties. We have had trips to the park to col-lect Autumn leaves and a walk to memorial gardens to pay our respect and the children enjoyed making their poppies.
In the Chilli pepper room we have also been focusing on our room rules and we have been reinforced these. We have new sensory activities that the children can use independently during free play. This is our painting easel and our sand play which have signs and rules involved and the chil-dren understand the rules and boundaries themselves. This is in-creasing their independence for when they make the next transition. We have slowly started our Christmas activities as we have been learning our new Christmas songs with Beryl. Our letter of the month for December is the letter D, and our book of the month is “I’m the best”

During the month of November Grand Pep-
pers have been very excited about our nativity
play. We have been practicing our Christmas
songs every day. The songs we have been
practicing are—”little donkey”, “Down in the
stable”, “The echo song”, Christmas Pudding”,
“Rudolf the red nose reindeer”, “Jingle Bells”,
“Navidad” (Spanish jingle bells), “When Santa
got stuck up a chimney” and “We wish you a
merry Christmas”. WE would appreciate it if
you were able to practice these at home also.
All the Grand Pepper children will be starting
dress rehearsals over the next couple of
weeks, so please bring in your child’s cos-
tumes with their names attached inside if pos-
sible.
As you are aware we have had a change in
the room layout to ensure a stimulating for
your child’s. I would like to thank Harriet ( our
lunch time assistant) for building us an amaz-
ing role play house, which we are creating into
Santa’s workshop in the next week.
Grand Peppers classroom rules are being
reinforced during circle time. A new reward
system is also being put into place to promote
positive behaviour within the room. Under-
neath our white board each child will have an
ice cream cone with their name on, once a
child shows positive behaviour, they will get a
scoop ,of ice cream, there will be different
colours and each one numbered one to five.
Once reaching five scoops they will get a spe-
cial treat from our special box..
Our book of the month for December is the
nativity story.
We would like Jennie Hart into the Grand
Peppers.
Jennie is a
qualified ear-
ly years
teacher, who
brings lots of
new ideas to
share with us
to ensure the
best for our children.
Hawthorn Care Home was very happy to see
such well behaved children, who used their
very best singing voices throughout our
Christmas songs.

becca Judge, Armelle Bouetoubassa, So-
phie Delvin, Rachael Turner
This month in Sweet Peppers we have been
focussing on both the book of the month by
creating frogs out of paper plats and dress-
ing up and dressing up as numerous differ-
ent characters from ‘Room on the Broom
book. As well as that we have been making
fitting seasonal activities such as snow-
flakes, polar bears and snow men for our
‘Winter Wonderland’ display, using a range
of different materials as well as gluing, stick-
ing and painting. As well as making things
for our Winter Wonderland we are also mak-
ing a range of different activities for the chil-
dren to take home nearer the Christmas
period, for example using handprints to
make Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
cards and salt dough to make Christmas
pictures using play dough cutters. Also this
month with have began to introduce a lot
more independence to prepare the children
in Sweet Peppers ready for the transition to
Chilli Peppers. This has been done by pro-
moting self service snack within the room
proving children
with the oppor-
tunity to make
decisions for
themselves and
to practise pour-
ing and decision making. Also this month
the children have had a range of new sen-
sory toys to play with during messy play
time, such as, Flour, Sand and shaving
foam using a different range of toys whilst
discussing how the toys work in different
scenarios and sensory equipment.
Next Month the book and rhyme of the
month will be: The Night Before Christmas
and the rhyme is Here are my branches for
you to decorate.
Unfortunately children and adults do pick up
different illnesses from each other. Where
coughs and colds are common place, please do
consider if your child is well enough to attend.
Pepperberry would like to remind you we do
have a strict policy on sickness and diarrhoea.
Please be reminded it is the interest of everyone
for children not to attend nursery for 48 hours
after the last episode of sickness and then only
return to nursery when they have fully recov-
ered. This will also prevent and stop the spread
of illness. Thank you again for your considera-
tion to others.
