KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Ted Kober serves as Senior Ambassador for Ambassadors of Reconciliation (AoR). Since founding AoR, he served as president until 2015. Ted has published articles, Bible studies, devotions, training courses, and books including Confession & Forgiveness, Cultivating Lifestyles of Reconciliation (co-authored with Ken Sande), and Built on the Rock: The Healthy Congregation. He teaches in congregations, church worker conferences, schools, universities, and seminaries throughout the world. He has equipped church body leaders from more than 35 countries. A Certified Christian Conciliator™ since 1992, Ted consults and conciliates in cases ranging from personal disputes to lawsuits and church conflicts. Prior to reconciliation work, he owned or managed more than 30

different companies, and he resolved 59 legal disputes in one estate. He has served on more than 50 boards of directors. He and wife Sonja live in Billings, Montana. They have one son and two grandchildren. Keynote I: Clothed as a Child of God – Baptismal Identity Our own perspective of our identity and self-worth directly impacts how we treat others around us. That self-image is revealed in conflict. Remembering whose we are as Baptized children of God equips us to be clothed in Christ in all that we do. Keynote II: Clothed in Community – Built on the Rock Children of God do not exist in isolation. Together, we make up the body of Christ. Built on the Rock, we are called to dwell in Christ, the living Word. The more connected we are to our Head, the more our community reflects our being clothed in Christ. Keynote III: Clothed to Disciple Others – Living the Baptized Life We disciple others as we live the Baptized life, by confessing our sins and forgiving as God through Christ has forgiven us. Christian educators not only teach about confession and forgiveness, they live it, thereby teaching through example and application.

PRESENTER BIOSLynn Bechtel Lynn Bechtel is an Education Program Consultant at the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). She has worked with system improvement, including professional development, for 17 years. Prior to joining KSDE, she taught in Olathe. Dr. Mark Blanke After serving congregations in California as a DCE and principal, Mark served as an assistant professor and DCE program director at Concordia University River Forest (now Chicago) prior to coming to Concordia University, Nebraska in 1995. Mark currently serves as a professor of education, Director of the DCE Program, Director of Strategic Planning for the university, and founder and director of the Institute for Religious Education. In addition to his BSEd and DCE certificate, he has a master’s in counseling and guidance, a master’s in parish education and a doctorate in adult education. Mark and his wife Chris, a public health nurse, live in Seward, Nebraska. Kris Bruss Kris Bruss serves as the communication specialist in the LCMS Kansas District Office in Topeka, where she edits publications, manages the website and social media, and helps develop new resources. Prior to working for the District, she worked in higher education, teaching courses in public speaking, speechwriting, and rhetorical theory. She also worked with faculty development programs at various colleges, including Bethany Lutheran (Mankato, MN), the University of the South (Sewanee, TN), and the University of Kansas. Jennifer Hanni I began my career in education teaching ELA and journalism at Riley County High School, and then Freshman ELA at the Seaman Freshmen Center. I transitioned into administration and the world of elementary education by serving as the building principal of Scranton Attendance Center, the 3rd and 4th grade building in the Santa Fe Trail district, and the district curriculum director. For the previous five years, I have served with Greenbush on the School Improvement Services team, as the Director of School Improvement for the last two years. In this role, we serve over 110 districts in eastern Kansas in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and accreditation. This year, I served on the leadership team of the Stage 1 group, which created the competencies and assessment rubrics of the Navigating Change document. Brent Howard Brent Howard (DCE) serves as Director of Administration, COO/CFO at Christ Lutheran Church in Overland Park, overseeing operations, finance, human resources and facilities. Previously, he served 24 years in children's, youth and family ministry. Married to Michelle for 25 years, they have two children: Nate and Emily. Elizabeth Karst I have worked in child care for just over 12 years. I have my degree in early childhood education and am currently working on completing my bachelor’s in psychology. I have worked with children from infants to school age in the years that I have worked at Open Arms. I truly believe that the development that occurs within the first years of a child's life is crucial to their success later in life. Without early childhood educators, children do not receive the strong base of learning that is necessary for later education. I have made it a goal of mine to help teach other educators around me the importance of what we do in early childhood. Karl Kindt Karl Kindt has been a secondary educator for 24 years, including seven years as an instructional technology specialist for Ladue Middle School in St. Louis, Missouri. He also taught at the college level for 13 years. When Webster University in St. Louis began online-only courses, he led the development of and taught one of the computer applications courses for three years. As the 2019 pandemic shut down St. Louis County schools, he led development of distance learning plans for Ladue Middle School. His main focus in education is finding the best technology for each learning goal and helping educators achieve success in its implementation. Ted Kober Ted Kober serves as Senior Ambassador for Ambassadors of Reconciliation (AoR). Since founding AoR, he served as President until 2015. Ted has published articles, Bible studies, devotions, training courses, and books. He teaches in congregations, church worker conferences, schools, universities, and seminaries throughout the world. A Certified Christian Conciliator™ since 1992, Ted consults and conciliates in cases ranging from personal disputes to lawsuits and church conflicts. He and wife Sonja live in Billings, Montana.

I completed my degree in early childhood education at Butler County Community College. Children have been a blessing to me throughout my entire life. I enjoy watching them learn and grow and discover each and every day. Since I am no longer able to spend my time in a classroom with children, a priority of mine is that all staff are properly equipped to be the best that they can be. Katie Morgan Katie was born and raised in Brighton, CO. She received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Director of Christian Education (DCE) certification with an emphasis in children, youth and family ministry from Concordia University, Nebraska in 2011. Session: A1 Title: Academic Readiness – What’s the Connection to Sensory and Motor Skills? Target: Early Childhood Presenter: Tiffany Wallman, OTR/L Description: An organized and fun way for kids to develop sensory and motor skills that are foundational for reading, writing, and sitting still is through the use of a motor lab. Educators will recognize how sensory and motor skill development is essential for students to be successful in the classroom. Session: A2 Title: Connecting Deep Through Check-ins & Check-outs Target: Schools Presenter: Carmen Zeisler Description: Our world has changed so much in the last few weeks. Let’s learn how to do meaningful and simple check-ins and check-outs during this interactive session. These activities can be used online or in the classroom! Session: A3 Title: Tech Serving Teaching Target: Schools Presenter: Karl Kindt Description: Explore best practices for effectively integrating technology into K-12 curriculum, with a focus on the SAMR Model, blended learning, and how their principles can be applied to get the best out of any technology. Come learn more about the Enneagram and how it can help us in ministry. Session: B3 Title: Daily 5 (ELA) & Daily 3 (Math) Target: Schools Presenters: Isaac and Emma Taylor Description: Are you lacking the time or structure to meet with students individually or in small groups? Are you looking for a literacy or math framework that eliminates busywork and focuses on authentic learning experiences? Daily 5 and Daily 3 are your answers! "Daily 5 is a literacy framework that instills behaviors of independence, creates a classroom of highly engaged readers, writers, and learners, and provides teachers with the time and structure to meet diverse student needs. Because it holds no curricular content, it can be used to meet any school, district, state, or national standards." "Math Daily 3 is a framework for structuring math time so students develop deep conceptual understanding, mathematical proficiency, and a true love of mathematics. This framework can be adapted to district-adopted curriculums and state mandates. In addition, teachers are able to provide differentiated instruction, helping to ensure that all students reach their potential." Daily 5 can be used in kindergarten–8th grade! We have experience in the younger grades, but it can be adapted to meet all grade levels. Session: B4 Title: Regulation Strategies For All Target: Schools Presenter: Carmen Zeisler Description: In this session, we explore regulation strategies in three areas: grounding, breathing, and reflection. Session participants will learn about the science of the strategies and how and when to use them with kiddos and adults. Participants will actively practice the strategies during the session. Session: B5 Title: I’ve Got Data, Now What? Target: Schools Presenter: Dr. Ken Sankey Description: Use data to meet the goals of growth and improvement. Identify strengths and weaknesses, set goals to grow and improve, and make plans to meet the goals.

The trickle-down effect of poorly planned and implemented adult education in a church can and does impact many other ministry areas. There are some simple (and so not-so-simple) steps that can be taken to move the needle on our adult education efforts which will have a positive effect on other church ministry areas. Session: C4 Title: I’ve Got Data, Now What? Target: Schools Presenter: Dr. Ken Sankey Description: Use data to meet the goals of growth and improvement. We might think of these defining characteristics as part of the unique “brand DNA” that all our schools share. How can you best communicate that uniqueness to your various audiences? In this interactive session, we’ll first discuss the list of six features, then look at a handful of Lutheran school websites outside of Kansas to see how they’re making the case for their Lutheran school.
