Message from the Dean

Welcome to the London Business School’s 15th Annual Entrepreneurship Conference which focuses on the volatile emotions entrepreneurs go through while taking an idea to reality.

At London Business School, we pride ourselves on our commitment to being one of the best schools in the world for entrepreneurially-minded people. We are one of only a few top business schools to have entrepreneurship in our core curriculum and our entrepreneurship club is one of the biggest on campus. We recently launched the Deloitte Institute of Entrepreneurship which we hope will be generating the next wave of ideas.

The high calibre of speakers at this conference today is a testament to the importance of this subject and I very much hope you find it valuable.

Sir Andrew LikiermanDean

Message from the Co-Chairs

We are delighted to welcome you to the 15th Annual London Business School Entrepreneurship Conference!

Despite the hard economic times, high unemployment across most of the western world, and especially amongst the young, there is a glimmer of hope. One that is born from necessity, from being fed up with the status quo, and from wanting to do something about it. Bobby Kennedy said it best: “There are those who look at things the way they are and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not”. The rise of the entrepreneurial spirit is spurring innovation, creating jobs, adding value, and helping economies grow. Long live the entrepreneur!

This year’s conference - Entrepreneurship: An Emotional Roller Coaster - will show that despite the allure of becoming the next Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, or Mark Zuckerberg, this ride is a tough one, tougher than you will ever imagine. We believe this topic is not discussed enough, which is why we have brought together amazing speakers from across various industries and with immense experience in building a business from the ground up, to discuss the greatest journey of their lives.

We really hope you enjoy, and are inspired by today’s events.

Enterprise 100 is London Business School’s angel investor club and has played an integral role in establishing the School as a center for entrepreneurial excellence. The Club was launched in 1999 and helps to bridge what is happening in the classroom, the School’s successful entrepreneurs and the business community at large. Regular meetings allow members to hear pitches from aspiring entrepreneurial teams at the start-up or early stage of their ventures with a view to investing. Often the group is the first port of call for alumni seeking investment and the early capital can be a crucial step towards larger institutional investment rounds. We foster a supportive environment and many of our members can offer practical advice to the young business.

Outside these meetings members also assist in classroom activity, mentor students and alumni to build their personal business networks. Operating within the School’s Deloitte Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Club has over 90 members and welcomes new applicants with ‘entrepreneur-investor’ profiles. More details can be found on the School’s web pages or contact faculty member AAA.

Enterprise 100 is proud to be sponsoring the 15th annual London Business School Entrepreneurship Conference and in particular the Alumni Entrepreneurship Award.
