We would welcome interest from either individuals or organised groups. Have you have ever thought that you would like a small area to grow your own fruit and vegetables, but you feel a full allotment plot would be too challenging? Then a single raised bed may be right for you. Interested and would like to know more? Then give me a call for a chat or to arrange a site visit. Full allotment plots are also available. Minutes of Previous Meetings & AgendasThe minutes of our monthly meetings are available on the website. If you can’t access the internet and would like an agenda for a forthcoming meeting or further information on the work of the Parish Council, please contact the Clerk to the Council.

There are two very worn benches overlooking the recreational ground adjacent to the children’s play area. The Parish Council would like to offer Parishioners the opportunity to purchase a Memorial Bench to replace these.

The benches would be constructed to match the play area surround, made of recycled plastic and designed to last about 20 years. This would be an opportunity to purchase a bench as a memorial to a relative or loved one. The Parish Council would install the bench and maintain it on an ongoing basis.

There are only two benches available so it would be on a first come first served basis. They can be purchased at a cost of £420, plus the cost of a suitable plaque. This amount can be shared between two people wishing to put memorial plaques on a bench. No other plaques would be placed on the bench except by the person that donated it. Please contact Caroline, the Parish Clerk if interested.

Defibrillators

Please be aware that there are four public access Defibrillators installed in the Parish:

• On the external wall of the Village Hall in Laughton-en-le-Morthen.

• On the external wall of Laughton J&I School on School Road, Laughton-en-le-Morthen.

• On the external wall of Laughton All Saints’ C of E Primary School on High Street, Laughton-en-le-Morthen.

• On the external wall of the Traveller’s Rest, Main Street, Brookhouse.

The devices are designed to be used without any requirement for training. When receiving a 999 call Yorkshire Ambulance Service will assess the patient’s condition and may give out the access code to the Defibrillator Cabinet if appropriate. The machine itself gives spoken instructions and decides if a shock is required.

The defibrillator at Laughton All Saints’ was stolen earlier this year but has been replaced by the Parish Council.

• You can apply for a second brown bin which will cost an extra £31.

‘FREE’ Nordic Walking Taster SessionsWhat is Nordic Walking? Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking, but twice as effective. Using the upper body with Nordic walking poles can make a normal walk utilise 20 – 46 % more energy than normal walking.

It improves your posture and can use 90% of the muscles in your body (96 % if you talk) Nordic Walking can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment.

Nordic Walking is a fitness technique that everyone can participate in and should not be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running. The poles are not planted in front but in a specific way to increase the use of the upper body.

‘FREE’ Nordic Walking Taster Sessions will be held in January on the recreational grounds at the Village Hall, offered in partnership with Rotherham Nordic Walking.

The use of poles means the upper body muscles, including the core, are used as well as the legs. The poles propel the walker along, working harder but feeling easier, with a real improvement in posture and speed of walking, it also really helps with hills. It is also great fun and sociable!

To reserve your place on a ‘Taster Session’ or for more information, Contact Melissa Sweeney [email protected] 07798825293 Facebook: @Rotherham Nordic Walking

Brookhouse VillageThe Village continues to be a pleasant place to live with a good community feel as highlighted by the recent litter pick. Despite the cold and wet weather the litter pick went ahead, and the surrounding roads look really good! Thanks must also go to the regular litter pickers, who can often be seen with bag in hand as they walk the area, the incidents of dropped litter have been less than usual.

However, we do all have concerns with the high level of fly tipping that is happening around the area. It seems to be at an all-time high with bags dumped in the middle of the road as well as pushed into fields. I don’t know what the answer is apart from vigilance and reporting to Streetpride.

It is pleasing that the Travellers Rest is back open. Wishing Nathan and Charlotte every happiness in their next chapter and a warm welcome to Mick and Lisa as they start theirs in the Travellers.

It was certainly a baptism as they moved in on the day of the floods to a flooded cellar resulting in no beer, no heating and limited power. The opening on Friday was interesting with Villagers bringing a log for the fire to ensure the pub was warm as well as friendly. They are still getting things sorted, but it is no longer the Pub with no Beer!

Everyone is welcome to the ‘Christmas Tree Lights Switch On’ happening on Tuesday 3rd December at 6:30 outside the Travellers Rest. ALL WELCOME, there will be mulled wine and hot drinks as well as a visit from Santa, who will hopefully have a sack full of gifts to distribute for anyone who has managed to keep off the naughty list!

Want to get Fit?

My name is Fay Bird and I run classes at Laughton Village Hall for the local Community.

My vision was to try and get as many local people exercising as I could, after working in the large gyms I realised not everyone has the funds to access these facilities, and not everyone is confident enough to go to them.

At GO4IT Fitness we have a relaxed and friendly environment with great facilities including free parking, kids play area and a modern and up to date hall.

For more information please contact me on the above number or look us up on FacebookGO4IT Fitness
