Twenty First Sunday In Ordinary Time LAUDATO SI` is the name of the encyclical letter written by Pope Francis. Traditionally, these kind of letters are written by the pope to the rest of the Church to clarify some aspect of the Church’s teach- ings. Not surprisingly, Pope Francis addresses this encyclical to “people of good will throughout the world”. The letter is deeply rooted in the spirituality of the pope’s patron saint: St. Francis of Assisi. The purpose of the letter is to invite all the peoples of the earth to renew our commitment to this planet which is our common home. The letter comes from a pope who has a Mas- ters in chemistry and worked as a scientist before he entered the seminary. During his years as a priest and a bishop he also had a deep concern for the poor. As a scientist, the pope studied the overwhelming evi- dence that climate change results primarily from the misuse of the earth by human beings. As a servant to the poor, he also realized the ones who suffer most from the continued abuse of our common home are the people who live at the margins of society. They are the ones who suffer the most from environmental degradation. The issue is not something that needs further study as some claim; it is an issue that needs to be addressed now. The Holy Father asks all of us to un- derstand the problem and do what we can to care for our common home. Our Charity & Justice Team is planning to set up study groups this fall to meet and discuss the meaning and implication of the 180 page document. We will be setting up these groups in September, but right now we are looking for discussion leaders to lead groups. Detailed instructions will be provided to assist you! So if you would like to be a leader or even offer your home as a meeting place for 8-10 people let the office, Gary Prise or me know! We will start signing up groups once we have the leaders and the days and times that work best. At that point we will begin the sign up for the groups and order copies of Lauda- to Si` to take a closer look at this papal teaching. Since the pope addressed his letter to all peo- ple of good will, we will also be inviting members from other neighboring churches to join us in looking at Laudato Si`. Twenty First Sunday In Ordinary Time

LAUDATO SI` is the name of the encyclical letter

written by Pope Francis. Traditionally, these kind of letters are written by the pope to the rest of the Church to clarify some aspect of the Church’s teach-ings.

During his years as a priest and a bishop he also had a deep concern for the poor. As a scientist, the pope studied the overwhelming evi-dence that climate change results primarily from the misuse of the earth by human beings. As a servant to the poor, he also realized the ones who suffer most from the continued abuse of our common home are the people who live at the margins of society. They are the ones who suffer the most from environmental degradation.

The issue is not something that needs further study as some claim; it is an issue that needs to be addressed now. The Holy Father asks all of us to un-derstand the problem and do what we can to care for our common home.

Tin Can Raffle This raffle takes place every year at our parish picnic in early September. This year the picnic will take place on Sunday, September 13, beginning with the 11 am Liturgy. I hope you can make this a part of your plans. The picnic is a great time with family and friends and the TCR is just plain fun! Make mail labels with your name and phone number on it to save time when you purchase tickets for items you want to “bid” on. Tickets are $1 each. All proceeds will be used throughout the year to help offset costs of hospitality and for our weekly meetings and retreats. I am looking for donations for this raffle. New or gently used items are accepted as are hand made items like jewelry, quilts or gift certificates for food. Items or certificates can be dropped off in my office Monday through Friday 8:30-4:30 pm. Plans are underway for a Welcome and Intro-duction to Youth Group kick-off event Labor Day weekend. Details will come soon, but for now, mark your calendar for Saturday, September 5, beginning with the 4:30 Liturgy. We are enthusiastically plan-ning for an event full of fun for everyone! Our weekly Youth Group meetings will begin the following Sunday, September 13, 7-9 pm in the youth room. Plan to come and be a part of it all...the discussions, the fun, faith and friendships! All and any high school student in grades 9-12 are welcome and encouraged to come. You will soon be hearing about two upcoming events. One requires creativity and time. That would be the planning and putting together our annual haunted barn to be ready for Saturday, October 24. The other big event, is the Diocesan-wide High School Jamboree on Sunday, November 1. Mark your calendar now. Details for both events will be coming soon. EDGE Don't worry middle school students! Our EDGE core team has started planning for our meet-ings to begin in mid September. We are excited for another great year to start!

Also, a special thanks to all those who helped us with meals and clean up: our catechists, Sr. Joyce, Janice Chmielewski, and all involved came together to make this such a special time for our youth during their discernment for this sacrament.
