Law and Treaty Law; a B.A. in Political Science - International Relations (Cum Laude), American University in Cairo; and, Diploma in International Relations, Institute of Political Studies - Paris. As career diplomat, Mr. Abdel Latif has worked at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations - Geneva; Department of United Nations Affairs; Department of International Development Cooperation; Institute for Diplomatic Studies; and, as Lecturer at Faculty of Law, Cairo University. He is a citizen of Egypt.

Alan Farilie work as full professor and researcher of the Economics Department of the Catholic University of Peru. Member of the directors board of CISEPA. Member of the executive committee of LATN and responsible for the Andean node. Is an international consultant and

has several publications on economic integration and international trade negotiations.

Ana Maria Kleymeyer is ICTSD's Senior Advisor on Climate Change Negotiations. She served as lead negotiator under the UNFCCC for the Government of Argentina through the 13th Conference of the Parties in Poznan, Poland, where she also co-chaired the Article 9 Review process under the Kyoto Protocol. With ICTSD her work focuses on enhancing the understanding of trade related dimensions within the climate arena, as the negotiations draw nearer to the COP in Copenhagen. Prior to working in Argentina, she spent five years with the World Bank on capacity building for projects relating to environmental compliance and enforcement and integrated water resources management. Ana Maria holds a law degree with specialization in international, human rights and environmental law from American University's Washington College of Law, a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, and a Certificate in Development Studies from the Institute for Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.

Anabel González is senior consultant on trade and investment issues for the IDB and others. She has previously served as Director of the Agriculture Division in the WTO (2006-09); Costa Rican Chief Negotiator of CAFTA-DR (2002-04); Director General of Costa Rica’s

Investment Promotion Agency - CINDE (2001-02); Vice-Minister of Foreign Trade (1998-01); and Director General for Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (1990-97). She has published and lectured extensively in more than 20 countries. She also serves in the Board of Directors of CINDE and is a member of Academia de Centroamerica. She has a law degree from the University of Costa Rica and a master of laws degree from Georgetown University. Annie Dufey is a researcher with the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)

Antonio Josino Meirelles is an analyst with the International Negotiations Unit of CNI. Previously, was a researcher with the Institute of International Commerce and Negotiations Studies (ICONE) and has also worked in the area of trade promotion of the Department of

Commerce of the United States in São Paulo. Has a master's diploma from Sciences Po, Paris, and a Bachelor in International Relations from the Catholic University of São Paulo.

Brenda Brito holds a Law Degree from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA, Brazil), a Master of the Science of Law (JSM) from Stanford Law School (USA) and is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association. She has worked at Imazon (Amazon Institute of People and

Environment), a non-governmental organization in Belém, Pará, since 2003 and is currently Adjunct Researcher at Imazon and the Executive Director of this institution for 2009-2010. Brenda’s main areas of research are enforcement of environmental laws and land administration in the Amazon and she has also coordinated the Climate Change Program of Imazon as of 2009. Carlos Márcio Cozendey is director of the Economics Department of the Ministry of External Relations, Brazil. Denise Gregory is the Executive-Director of the Brazilian Center for International Relations – CEBRI. She holds an MBA from the Union College, New York, an MA in International Relations with concentration in International Economics and Latin America, from The Johns Hopkins University - School of Advanced International Studies - SAIS, Washington, D.C., and a BA in International Relations from the University of Brasilia. She worked as Institutional Relations Director at Investe Brasil, the official Brazilian Agency for investment promotion; as chief of staff to the President of the Brazilian Development Bank – BNDES; as special assistant to the executive secretariat of the Foreign Trade Chamber – CAMEX, as director and general coordinator of international relations at the Foreign Trade Secretariat – SECEX/MDIC.

Diego Alejandro Martínez holds a MA in Environment, Development and Policy (U. of Sussex) and BA in Public and International Affairs. Currently working as an independent advisor for public and private institutions (ICTSD, WWF, Instituto Humboldt) and lecturer

in “Trade and Environment” at Centro de Estudios en Derecho del Medio Ambiente of Universidad Externado (Bogota, Colombia). Main areas of interest: relationships between trade-investment agreements and environmental policies; trade in environmental goods and services; biodiversity and climate change policies.

Edmundo Claro is Director of the Energy and Sustainable Development Centre at Universidad Diego Portales, Santiago, whose objective is to contribute to a sustainable energy development in Chile and the region through research, teaching and extension. From

2003 till 2008 he worked at RIDES, directing research projects on sustainability, trade and climate change. He received his PhD in Environmental Economics from Cambridge University, UK, in 2003. Eduardo Tempone is a Minister in the Argentina Foreign Service. Director Economic Multilateral Negotiations (Ministry of External Relations of Argentina). Argentina Delegate to the WTO (2001-2007). Lawyer. M.A. in International Relations (The American University, Washington, U.S.A.)

Eduardo Viola is Professor at the Institute of International Relations, University of Brasilia. He has published three books and more than sixty articles in journals on issues of Globalization and Governance, Democracy and Democratization in South America, Environmental Policy in Brazil and

International Politics of Climate Change. Viola has been visiting professor in the following universities: Stanford, Colorado, Notre Dame, Amsterdam and Buenos Aires. He is currently working on Brazilian and South American Policy and Politics of Climate Change.

Fabio Fukuda is a researcher at the World Resources Institute (Washington DC) and an associate partner of Zeus Global Development (Sao Paulo). His work focuses on capacity-building, regarding anti-poverty trade measures in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Mr. Fukuda

holds a B.A. in International Relations from FAAP School of Economics.

Haroldo Machado Filho is a PhD on International Law (Graduate Institute of International Studies - IHEI, Geneva, Switzerland). He has been Special Adviser of the Brazilian Interministerial Commission on Global Climate

Change; a negotiator of the Brazilian Delegation to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol, since 1998; and speaker in conferences all around the world.

Hilton Silveira Pinto has a B.Sc in agronomy by ESALQ/USP in 1966, a M.S. by USP in 1974 and a Doctorate in Agronomy by the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filha, in 1978. Has a post-doc from the University of Guelph - Canada -

in 1978, where he also acted as a visiting professor of Agrometeorology. Was Deputy Head of the Section of Agricultural Climatology of the Campinas Agronomy Institute between 1970 and 1975, advisor of the Secretariat of Agriculture of São Paulo, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply and of the Financier of Studies and Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He is Professor of the State University of Campinas – Unicamp.

Jacob Werksman is an international lawyer, specializing in international environmental law and international economic law. He directs the Institutions and Governance Program at the World Resources Institute. WRI’s governance team leads networks of researchers and advocates

around the world to develop strategies that strengthen the relationship between citizens and their governments by promoting greater transparency, inclusiveness and accountability in environmental decision-making. Prior to joining WRI, Mr Werksman worked at Rockefeller Foundation, United Nations Development Programme, and the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD) in London. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of law at New York University, and at Georgetown University.

Jean Acquatella represents the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). At the moment, is Official of Economic Issues in the area of economic instruments for environmental management, the integration of fiscal and environmental policies

for the sustainable development between sectors and levels of government, and economic analysis of the associated mechanisms of flexibility of the Kyoto Protocol (UNFCCC, Framework Convention on Climate Change).

John Drexhage is Director of IISD's Climate Change and Energy Program. With a team of 15 staff and associates across Canada and overseas, Mr. Drexhage’s work on climate change is based on 15 years of experience on the issue, first as a

domestic advisor and international negotiator on climate change and then as an expert analyst and manager for IISD. Drexhage’s expertise covers a broad range of areas related to climate change, and he is currently focusing on regulatory frameworks for greenhouse gas emissions, post-2012 climate change regimes, market based instruments and more fully exploring linkages between adaptation, mitigation and sustainable development. Drexhage is also a Leading Author with Working Group 3 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

Karsten Neuhoff is a Research Associate at the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Cambridge. He holds a M.Sc. in Physics from Heidelberg, a M.Sc. in Economics from LSE and a PhD in Economics from Cambridge University.

Keith Nurse is Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre for Internaional Trade Law, Policy and Services, University of the West Indies, Cavehill Campus, Barbados. He has published numerous scholarly articles on the global political economy of

the clothing, banana, tourism, copyright and cultural/creative industries. He has also published on the impact of global economic restructuring on migration, HIV/AIDS and development assistance. Current research areas include innovation and technology governance and the impact of climate change policies on the tourism sector in small-island developing states.

Leandro Waldvogel holds an undergraduate diploma in law by the University of Sao Paulo and an International Business diploma by the University of California. Masters in diplomacy by Instituto Rio Branco. A career diplomat, currently working in the Division of Environmental

Policy and Sustainable Development of Itamaraty, accompanying and negotiating issues regarding climate change in various international forums.

Leonidas Girardin is a researcher with the Fundación Bariloche.

Lia Valls Pereira holds an Phd in Economics by the Instituto de Economia da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Master of Philosophy in Economics, Cambridge University, England. Project Coordinator for

International Trade Studies and Senior Economist of the Instituto Brasileiro de Economia, Fundação Getulio Vargas, Rio de Janeiro. Professor at the Faculty of Economics, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro.

Luiz Fernando do Amaral is advisor on the Environment for the Sugar Cane Industry Union (UNICA), responsible for the accompaniment of diverse initiatives of certification, civil society dialogue on environmental issues and for the area of climate

change inside the institution. Was a researcher on bio-fuels in the Institute of Commerce and International Negotiations Studies (ICONE), where he elaborated studies on agricultural international policies and negotiations. Was also responsible for the European Biofuel Programme (EBP) of Groupe d` Economie Mondiale (GEM) of Sciences Po Paris, having developed works on european support on bio-fuels. Is a master in International Economy by Sciences Po, Paris, and possesses an undergraduate degree in International Relations for the University of São Paulo (USP). Lutz Weischer is a Fellow of the Robert Bosch Foundation Postgraduate Programme in International Affairs. His work as a fellow focuses on the linkages between trade and climate change. Over the last months, he has worked with the Economics and Trade Branch of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as well as the Trade and Environment Division of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). His next stop will be the World Resources Institute's offices in Washington, D.C. and Beijing where he will mainly deal with the trade and competitiveness aspects of US climate policy and the potential of international trade for the development and transfer of clean technologies. He graduated from Sciences Po Paris as a Master in International Affairs with a specialisation in Sustainable Development in 2008 and holds a degree in political sciences from Freie Universität Berlin. During his studies, he has worked with Friends of the Earth Germany and the German confederation of trade unions on issues relating to trade, the environment and labour standards

Mahesh Sugathan is presently working as Programme Coordinator for Economics and Trade Policy Analysis. At ICTSD, he has worked on a broad range of issues, including trade and environment, agriculture and special and differential treatment and is presently engaged in

projects on environmental goods and services and trade and energy. Mr. Sugathan joined ICTSD in 2002 after interning at the ICTSD, UNCTAD and WTO. Mr. Sugathan has a Masters degree in International Law and Economics from the World Trade Institute in Bern. Mr. Sugathan completed undergraduate and graduate studies in Economics and International Relations at the University of Kerala and the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. He also holds an M.Phil in European Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University where he researched implications of EU environmental standards on Indian exports. Mr. Sugathan is a citizen of India. Maria Amparo Alban is a researcher with ACD consulting.

Mariana Luz holds a Master of Arts in History at State University of Rio de Janeiro (Ongoing/2009); Postgraduate in History of International Relations at UERJ (2007); International Relations BA from the University Estácio de Sá

(2004). Currently, holds the position of Academic Coordinator of the Brazilian Center for International Relations – CEBRI. Visiting Teacher at Cidade University (2005). Executive Committee Member of Cathedra and Net – REGGEN for the UNESCO/United Nations University on Global Economy and Sustainable Development (2003). Volunteer researcher for the Superior Educational Society (2002).

Marie Chamay is the Manager of the Global Platform on Climate Change, Trade Policies and Sustainable Energy (GP) at ICTSD. Her responsibilities include the full managerial overview of the GP. She is also responsible for ICTSD’s project

on sustainable bioenergy production and trade and a joint ICTSD-IPC initiative on “Climate Change, Agriculture and Trade: Promoting Policy Coherence”. Ms. Chamay first joined ICTSD as Intellectual Property Programme Associate in 2002, and after her masters studies became Trade and Natural Resources Programme Officer. She holds a BSc in Geography (Minor in Environmental

Sciences) from the University of Geneva and an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics (LSE). Ms. Chamay is lead author of ICTSD’s report Promoting Sustainable Land Management through Trade: Examining the Linkages between Trade, Livelihoods and Sustainable Land Management in Degraded Areas, for the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD. She holds both Swiss and French nationalities.

Mark Halle is Executive Director of IISD-Europe and IISD’s global director for Trade & Investment. Born in the US and raised in Switzerland, he has degrees in History from Tufts University in the US and from the University of Cambridge in the UK. Mark’s

career has largely been in the international environment field. He worked for the United Nations Environment Programme, WWF –International, and IUCN before leaving to establish IISD’s European office. In addition to trade and investment, Mark heads IISD’s Global Subsidies Initiative and its programme on Environment and Security. Mauricio López Dardaine holds an Industrial engineering degree from the University of Buenos Aires. Works as International trade consultant - Senior Partner Estudio López Dardaine, 1984 to date. Member of the board of directors at the Cámara de Exportadores de la República Argentina from 1981 to 2007 - Represented the Cámara de Exportadores de la República Argentina at international trade negotiations since 1981. Pedro Erik holds an PhD in International Relations from the University of Brasilia. Master in Economics from the University of Brasilia. Is currently General Coordinator of Sectoral Analysis of the Secretariat of Economic Monitoring of the Treasury, monitoring and producing reports

on the commodities and carbon markets (voluntary and compliance).

Pedro da Motta Veiga is Director of CINDES – Centro de Estudos de Integração e Desenvolvimento and partner at EcoStrat Consultores (Rio de Janeiro). He works on trade negotiations as well as trade and industrial policies issues. A

permanent consultant to Confederação Nacional da Indústria (CNI) of Brazil, he is also Coordinator of the Latin American Trade Network – LATN for Brazil as well as Regional Advisor for the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development. Ricardo Markwald holds a Bachelor in Economics by the Faculty of Economics of the National University of Buenos Aires (1972) and a Master in Economics of the Public Sector by the Catholic University of Rio De Janeiro (1980). Has been a researcher of the Institute of Applied Research in Economics (IPEA) since 1980, having developed works in macroeconomics, macroeconomic modeling, Brazilian foreign policy and short-run economic analysis. Occupied the positions of Coordinator of the Group of Short-run Economic Analysis (1987-90), Coordinator of the Macroeconomic Area (1990-91) and Associate Director of Research (1992-93). Mr. Markwald took leave from IPEA in 1993 to work in the Economics Department of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), where he occupied the position of Deputy Head (1993-1995). In 1995, Mr. Markwald was nominated General Director of the Center for the Studies of Trade (FUNCEX), a position which he occupies until today. He is Assistant Professor (on leave) of the Catholic University of Rio De Janeiro (PUC-RJ) and author of numerous articles published in specialized Brazilian magazines in the economy area, as well as essays edited in books.

Ricardo Meléndez-Ortiz is co-founder of the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development and its Chief Executive since 1996. Previously, he co-founded and was Executive Director of Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano (Quito), and

served as permanent delegate of Colombia in Geneva. He was a negotiator in the Uruguay Round, the UNCED process, UNCTAD VIII, the

Climate Change Convention, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Montreal Protocol. He acted as spokesperson for the G77 in several fora and served as chair of the UN Standing Committees on Commodities and on Trade Preferences. Before, he served as Principal Advisor to the Colombian Minister of Economic Development, Chief Trade Negotiator for bilateral trade and investment agreements and as Chief of Administration of the Office of the President of Colombia. Since 1997, Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz is the publisher of BRIDGES and its sister publications, and has edited and published a wide range of books, papers and articles in English, French and Spanish. Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz sits on advisory committees and boards of several global policy initiatives worldwide. He has also been a member of the U.N. Secretary General Millennium Project Task Force on Trade; the WTO’s Director General NGO Advisory Group; and the MOFCOM/IISD China Sustainable Development and Global Markets Task Force; and founder and Chairman of IUCN’s Commission on Environment Trade and Investment (CEESP- GETI). Mr. Meléndez-Ortiz undertook graduate and undergraduate studies at Harvard University and the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá; he holds both Colombian and Belgian nationalities.

Roberto Bouzas is an economist from the University of Buenos Aires and Cambridge University. Currently, is Associate Professor at San Andrés University and full researcher at the The National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina.

Is academic director of the master's program in International Relations and Negotiations at San Andres University and FLACSO/Argentina and professor of the International Economic Law and Policy Program at University of Barcelona. His most recent book is After Doha - The Emergent Agenda of the International Trade System (Madrid: Martial Pons Publishing, 2007).

Sandra Polónia Rios is Director of CINDES – a centre of studies on economic integration and development issues and her areas of expertise include trade negotiations and trade policy. She acts as a permanent consultant for the National

Confederation of Industry and teaches Trade Policy at Pontificia Universidade do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ). She was coordinator of the International Integration Unit of the National Confederation of Industry from 1993 to 2003 and a researcher at Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica e Aplicada (IPEA) from 1985 to 1988.

Saulo Nogueira works at the Institute for International Trade Negotiations (ICONE) doing research on biofuels and agricultural trade at the regional and multilateral level. His main task has been coordinating the Asia Latin-America Agri-Food

Research Network (ALARN) project, which joins nine institutions to carry out research in agricultural sector and trade issues in the two continents. Previously, he worked as a trade analyst and manager at the Brazilian Machinery Manufacturers Association (ABIMAQ). In the United States he carried out research at the Institute for Trade and Commercial Diplomacy (ITCD) in Washington DC and did internships at the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Brazilian Embassy. He holds an M.A. in Commercial Diplomacy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies (California) and a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Cardiff University (UK).

Valeria Csukasi has been in charge of multiple areas of the WTO negotiations as Capital official and has also participate in the bilateral negotiations that leaded to the conclusion of the FTA between Uruguay and México, as well as in the previous stages of the negotiations between MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay) and the European Union. Her present responsibilities include working as Agricultural and Trade and Environment Attaché to the Permanent Mission of Uruguay to the WTO in Geneva (since 2005) and as Chair of the Committee on Agriculture – regular session, WTO (since 2007).

Vicente Schmall holds an MSc on Environmental Management, pos graduated on Air Pollution Control, Environmental and Land Use Planning, and Environmental Engineering. Petrobras’s Senior Advisor for air pollution and climate change issues, working at

the Company HSE Corporate Office for the last 20 years.
