NEWSLETTER DATE 08TH OF JUNE 2016, TERM 2 WEEK 9

Larrakeyah Primary School is a member of the Darwin

City Schools and in partnership with Darwin High

School, Northern Territory Open Education Centre,

Ludmilla Primary , Stuart Primary and Parap Primary.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The fundraising committee and staff are currently preparing for the Family Fun Day held at the school on

Sunday 7 August 9am-1pm. It promises to be a wonderful school community event with community

displays, activities and stalls. Each class will be hosting a stall so teachers really need assistance from

parents – organising the stall, donations of items and a parent roster on the day to man the stall. Teachers

have sent a note home to ask for parental support with their stall and your assistance is appreciated.

A reminder to parents that excursion/performance notes together with any money that is required needs

to be at school by the due date. Excursions are organised in advance and teachers are prepared for

specific student numbers attending or not attending. Buses are also booked for a specific number of

students. Office staff cannot be phoning or emailing parents on the morning of an excursion or

performance. If the excursion/performance note/money is not returned to school by the due date,

unfortunately the student cannot attend.

Last year, our School Board updated the school uniform policy. Please have a read on the school website

www.schools.nt.edu.au/larrakeyah . If students are wearing leggings or jumpers in the cooler weather, it is

recommended that these are navy blue or black. We also have a school jacket that can be purchased.

Darwin City Schools are continuing to work collaboratively. On Monday, our Year 6 students together with

students from Darwin High School, Darwin Middle School, Parap Primary School, Stuart Park Primary School

and Ludmilla Primary School, participated in the filming of a new television advertisement. The organisers

of the Bullying. No Way! and the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence asked Darwin

schools to participate in a filming of the new television advertisement which will be aired as a community

service announcement (CSA) for the 2017 National Day of Action and beyond. The filming was a

re-creation of the aerial shot created by Darwin High School this year with students collectively standing

together to say

‘Bullying. No Way!’

Design and Technologies

Learning Intention: To follow a design brief to design and construct a bridge.

Success Criteria: I understand the features and purpose of bridges and can use my understanding to

design and construct a bridge.

In groups, students researched and found information about famous bridges around the world. They

learnt about different types of bridges and experimented with constructing bridges out of different

materials. Then they received a design brief and had to design and construct their own bridge.
