successful at reading. Not only can I listen and hear them better than in a whole
group setting, but I also get to see what strategies they use in order to sound out
words, predict, and practice one-to-one correspondence. Not only did I get to
participate in these small reading groups, but then getting a chance to reflect on them
was critical. It gave me a chance to look at each student and think about what I saw
from him/her and what strategies could be used to help him/her.
3. A If the artifact has been used in your practice, reflect on how your teaching will
change in the future to further meet the standard.
This artifact was used for an assignment and in my practice. I did the lessons
in my kindergarten placement and the reflection paper for a class. Actually using
these lessons in my practice definitely will affect my practice because it showed me
how important it is to actually hear your students. We often times lose students in the
whole group setting and are not hearing their needs and wants. Giving them the
opportunity to be heard can help teachers find where they may need more support in
order to be more successful in the classroom.
4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and
Learn in a Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.
I believe that this artifact has prepared me to teach and learn in a diverse
society because it helped me focus on ability differences. Often times we think of
diversity as race, socioeconomic, or cultural. In the classroom probably the most
important type of diversity is ability because it is our job to expand our students
ability and help them grow into productive citizens.
