In this exciting and empowering 12 day Institute, you will explore the major current issues of today's complex world. You will be challenged to find solutions to the local and global problems that directly impact young people. A typical program day includes:

Discussions with politicians, activists and community leaders; Teambuilding challenges, leadership skills workshops, field trips,

Located on the scenic campus of the School for International Training in Brattleboro, the Institute:

Brings together dynamic young leaders, and challenges them to ask and find answers to difficult questions by exploring different sides of issues and political perspectives;

Provides opportunities for students to form strong friendships with peers and a smart, fun staff;

Inspires students to become politically active in their communities, make informed choices as young citizens and develop the skills needed to turn ideas into action.

Vital IssuesIn workshops, simulations and debates, we will cover issues such as Livable Wages, Child Labor, HIV/AIDS, Terrorism, Iraq, Immigration, Global Warming, Poverty, School Quality, Human Trafficking, Landmines, Separation of Church & State, Gender, & Civil Liberties.

Leadership Skills & "WALKING OUR TALK"

Workshops will provide practical, hands-on training in public speaking, meeting facilitation, listening, project design, internet activism and more. Students create arts-based social issue performance pieces, and "walk their talk" by marching in Brattleboro's July 4th parade and carrying signs to educate the community about issues.

Meeting International YouthInstitute participants also have the opportunity to meet international high school students from Northern Ireland and England who are attending concurrent youth programs at SIT.

During your days in the city you will discover the city’s historical and architectural background, you will learn about the program’s components details, regulations and homestay specifics while you visit Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, the British Museum, the Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, cruise the River Thames and take a flight on the London Eye!

The Homestays

For 10 days you will live with a host family in Worcester, a picturesque city overlooked by its twelfth-century Cathedral. This town was the home of the Royal Worcester Porcelain and the house of the Lea and Perrins factory. It is also has one of the UK’s fastest growing universities: the University of Worcester. Afterwards you’ll have a second homestay, but this time at the medieval walled city of Chester or at the traditional Victorian seaside town

Southport.

Activities

During the program you will have 30 hours of English language at a local school and depending on the homestay communities some of the activities you might do are: visit Oxford, tour the world famous Christ Church College (setting for the Harry Potter films!) day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon where William Shakespeare was born, play rugby, cricket, visit the The Beatles Story in Liverpool, visit a radio station and experience the traditional British afternoon tea at five.

Turkey: History, Archeology & CultureHos Geldiniz!Turkey is one of the most spectacular countries in the world, with ancient history, vibrant cities, impressive archeological sites, memorable food, hospitable people, stunning natural sceneries and one of the most famous cities in the world: Istanbul, laying on two different continents.

In collaboration with EIL Turkey, our partner organization, LAMAT has created this program that will immerse you in this country’s history, culture and society; while you explore the country, become part of a local family and interact with young people your age at a local summer camp.

Experience first hand life in present day Turkey. Experience day-by-day life in a typical Turkish

family, while living as a member of one. Participate in a local summer camp to meet

young teenagers for sports, cultural activities and workshops.

Discover the history, culture and arts of Turkey. Learn about the radical Turkish transformation

led by Atatürk creating present-day modern Turkey.

THE PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

Orientation

The program begins with a 5-day orientation in Istanbul. During your days in the city you will discover the city’s historical and architectural background, you will learn about the program’s components details, regulations, homestay specifics and survival Turkish language instructions while you visit the Blue Mosque, St. Sophia, the Spice Bazaar, the Bosphorus and wander around the streets of the old part of Istanbul. You will even cross by foot from Europe to Asia!

The Homestay & Youth Camp

For 5 days you will become part of a Turkish family in İzmir (ancient Smyrna). During the homestay you will be able to experience first hand every day life as a member of a typical Turkish family. Prepare traditional Turkish dishes with

your host family, run errands at the local market, meet new local friends for coffee in the afternoon while you become part of a traditional Anatolian town. After the homestay you and your group will go camping with local students your age to get to know what’s life like in Turkey for people your age.

The Cultural & Archeological Tour

You will visit several cities and sites important to Turkish history and culture. You will visit Iznik where you will paint your own mosaic; Bursa for Mount Olympus, the Iskender Kebap and the marron glace; Troy and Çanakkale; Ephesus and the house of the Virgin Mary as well as the impressive Cappadocia with the Imagination Valley and the carved houses!

Dlala Nathi! “Come play with us!”There is nowhere in the world quite like Cape Town, perched between the cool ocean and the rugged beauty of iconic Table Mountain, with a national park as its heart it's a place to renew and reconnect. Cape Town, the “Mother City”, is the oldest city in South Africa and has a cultural heritage spanning more than 300 years.

This intercultural summer program has been designed to provide global youth the opportunity to enrich lives and play a role in local community development and environmental conservation. This is a chance to experience the rich South African culture, amazing landscapes and indigenous wildlife. Program Objectives:

Experience first hand life in amazing South Africa. Experience day-by-day life in a typical South African family, while living

as a member of one. Work side-by-side with local people in a community service project. Enjoy nature, discover the history, culture, arts, food, music & dance of

South Africa. Share knowledge and culture with South African youths.

THE PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

Orientation

The program begins with a 5-day orientation in Cape Town. Located at the tip of southern Africa, Cape Town is your introduction to the Rainbow Nation. Spend your first days learning about South Africa’s cultural diversity, its struggle against apartheid, and its transformation to democracy. Journey to Cape Point, home of the African penguin and travel to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison. You will also participate in workshops focusing on dance, music and drumming.

The Homestay & Community Service

After orientation you will become part of a South African family. During the homestay

you will take part in a community service project in environmental conservation.

At the same time you’ll get to live as a South African while you prepare traditional South African dishes like the babotie, biltong or potjiekos; help prepare a weekend braai, run errands at the local market, meet new friends or experience a thrilling drumming workshop with your group. There are so many interesting and different activities to do in South Africa that won’t have time to be bored a single minute!

Programa Avanzado de Participación y Desarrollo

Promoviendo la Cultura de la SolidaridadEl “Programa Avanzado de Participación y Desarrollo, el rol de la sociedad civil en un mundo globalizado y desigual” es una formación académico profesional en diferentes formatos, orientado a ofrecer conocimientos y adquirir la metodología necesaria para entender el sistema internacional de cooperación al desarrollo hoy día y para generar e implementar alternativas viables y eficaces desde la sociedad civil. Objetivos del Programa

Este curso ofrece un conocimiento sistemático y profundo sobre el marco socio-económico en el que se desarrolla la cooperación internacional resaltando sus fortalezas y debilidades y proponiendo nuevos modelos de participación en el sistema desde la sociedad civil. El objetivo general del curso es el de formar académicamente sobre temas de participación y desarrollo a partir de un análisis profundo del contexto pasado y presente mediante una metodología proactiva que se traduzca en modelos reales de participación. Objetos específicos del curso:

Adquisición de conocimientos y herramientas para entender el Sistema Internacional de Cooperación al Desarrollo en un contexto globalizado.

Entender, contextualizar y profundizar en modelos tradicionales de participación como el voluntariado y el activismo social y en su actualización y alcance en el contexto actual.

Adquisición y manejo de la metodología de gestión y evaluación de proyectos trabajados con Marco Lógico para su adaptación a los temas tratados en el curso.

Formación en nuevos modelos de participación como el voluntariado virtual, el ciberactivismo o la captación de fondos con fines sociales y la puesta en marcha de iniciativas y proyectos en contextos con necesidades humanitarias.

Integración de áreas de conocimiento y participación tales como la cultura, el enfoque de derechos humanos, el de género, la soberanía alimentaria y el codesarrollo como elementos esenciales a tener en cuenta a la hora de intervenir en poblaciones del Sur.

Metodología

El curso tendrá lugar, a lo largo de dos semanas, del 23 de julio al 4 de agosto, de lunes a sábado, durante 4 horas de duración en horario de mañana.

Cada uno de los módulos asegura un contenido teórico recogido en el material entregado, además de una bibliografía específica y material complementario aportado en cada Módulo. A partir de este contenido se plantearán ejercicios prácticos que promuevan la participación y la innovación en las diferentes temáticas desde una metodología que combina el conocimiento académico con la vivencia de las situaciones correspondientes a los temas tratados.

El curso será impartido en San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), España. Los alumnos extranjeros tendrán pensión completa en San Lorenzo y los alumnos españoles de fuera de Madrid o que así lo requieran podrán optar por la misma opción también.

Programa de Estudios

Módulo I: La cooperación al desarrollo en un contexto globalizado. Módulo II: Sistema Internacional de Cooperación, Política Española de cooperación al desarrollo. Módulo III: La sociedad civil, sus actores y las formad de participación. Módulo IV: La importancia de la cultura en las acciones de cooperación. Módulo V: Diagnóstico y formulación de proyectos y Microproyectos de cooperación. Módulo VI: Fundraising, estrategia de financiación del tercer sector y nuevos enfoques en la filosofía del donante.

Prácticas en Terreno: Microproyectos de Cooperación

Las prácticas en terreno para este curso se podrán hacer en cualquiera de los 23 microproyectos de cooperación que tenemos en 12 países y en 3 continentes.

Los Microproyectos de Cooperación al Desarrollo están sólo disponibles durante los meses de verano y tienen fechas de participación determinadas. Si tienes otra disponibilidad o quieres animarte a participar en un voluntariado de corta o mediana duración tenemos diferentes programas de voluntariado internacional.

Through the senses explore the wines, the food and the traditions of the people of Chile.

This program is specially designed for people into the science of grape-growing and wine making, oenology, tourism, Chefs, restaurant and hotel administration students, as well as people interested in discovering and experimenting the world famous wine culture in Chile, their people and their traditions.

Morocco: A View Through Moroccan EyesMarhaba bikum fil-maghreb!Spectacular Mosques, beautiful deserts, fresh dates & almonds, yellow babouches, exotic spices, great tanneries, traditional tagines with couscous, inspiring music and warm and hospitable people are just some of the many things that the Kingdom of Morocco has to offer.

Morocco is nestled on the northwest tip of Africa, bordering Algeria and Mauritania, and is separated from the rest of the continent by the towering Atlas Mountains and by the Sahara. Morocco’s coast extends along the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, a strategic position that has made the country home to successive civilizations over centuries, including the Phoenicians, Vandals, Byzantines, Carthaginians, Romans, and eventually Arab tribes who moved from Arabia.

Being such an interesting country LAMAT, in collaboration with our Moroccan partner organization Thaqafat, has designed a summer program aimed to university students interested in learning, experiencing and discovering the history, traditions, culture and interesting current issues of this country.

Program Objectives:

Experience first hand life in present day Morocco. Experience the day-by-day life in a typical Moroccan

family, while living as a member of one in the old Medina of Rabat.

Work side-by-side with local people in a community service project.

Discover the history, culture and arts of Morocco. Learn about politics, Islam and gender dynamics at the

University Mohammed V in Rabat. Learn about Morocco’s most important current issues from local Non-

Profit Organizations.

The Program at a Glance

Orientation

The program begins with a 3-day orientation in the city of Rabat. During these days you will learn about the program components details, regulations, homestay issues and manners, about Morocco’s multilingualism and two very important things: basic Arabic and bargaining! You will also tour Rabat so you can start getting familiarized with the city that will host you for the next couple of weeks and move around it without problems.

The Homestay

After orientation each participant will be hosted for the next 24 days by a Moroccan family in the old Medina of Rabat. Immerse yourself in Morocco’s daily life as member of the family while you help to cook meals, practice your Arabic and share your culture.

The University

Every morning you will attend a three-week special program at the University Mohammed V in Rabat. The classes will be conducted in English by some of the best renowned teachers of the University. The program is divided in two modules:

Module I: Moroccan Politics Human Rights Issues in Morocco Truth and Reconciliation Commission

Module II: Gender Dynamics and Religion Women and the Public Sphere Moroccan Islam

At the end of the program you will travel to Fès, the third largest city in Morocco after Casablanca and Rabat. Fès el-Bali (the old, walled city) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a very exiting place! You will spend your three final days in Fès discovering the city, its traditional crafts, you will visit its famous tanneries and you will participate in a couple of workshops to learn about Sufism and arts in Morocco.

THE PROGRAM AT A GLANCE

Orientation

The program begins with a 4-day orientation in Paris. During these days you’ll learn about the Parisian way of life and the importance of food in their culture, you’ll learn about the city’s history while you get to know your group leader as well as your group and start practicing the language with the locals.

During your stay in Paris you will visit the Louvre Museum, the Champs-Élysées, la Tour Eiffel, le Quartier Latin, Montmartre, the Opera House, you will take a boat tour along the Seine and, of course, you will visit some of the main markets of the city such as the ones on Rue Montorgueil and Rue Mouffetard.

LE MANS

From Paris you and your group will travel to Le Mans in the Loire region where a French family will receive you for a two-week homestay. During the first week you and your group will visit a chocolate factory, local farms to learn about the artisanale production, snail farms, you will participate in workshops to prepare local dishes like rillettes in the typical way and sports activities like canoeing.

The second week you and your group will take an intensive course at the École St. Catherine where you’ll learn about restaurant management in France (service, administration, regulations, type of restaurants, etc.), bar tending and Brasserie service. You’ll also have tasting and sensorial analysis workshop, you’ll visit a vineyard and a local market for an activity with the local producers.

After the homestay you and your group will go to Lyon where you’ll spend 8 days at what is the best city for French food. Here you will take a one week course of French cuisine at L’Insitut Paul Bocuse, one of the best Chefs in France.

During the day you’ll cook French dishes under the supervision and guidance of Chefs from the Insitute. Each they you will cook a three-course meal that you will eat at the end of the class for lunch. The last day you will have a special wine tasting workshop and a toast where the group will receive their diplomas.

In the afternoon you and your group will be able to explore the city of Lyon and their numerous Buchon. There is really no better place to experience French cuisine at its best than Lyon!
