It is with great pleasure that I tell my Lake Street Family that there is a new member to the Wise Family Tree. My son Tommy and his wife Stepha-nie have a bouncing baby boy (my first grandchild). Connor Mathew Wise was born this past Tuesday, September 16th and Mr. Wise and I couldn’t be prouder or happier. Little Connor is a miracle.
With much gratitude and joy, Mrs. Cindy Wise (grandma for the first time)

Calling all Volunteers...PTO needs you!!! Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and ensure events are educational and entertaining and also that fundraising is successful. We are in GREAT NEED of volun-teers for the following committees: WalkToSchool Day, Mother/Son Night, Daddy Daughter Dance, and even Babysitters for PTO Meetings! Not sure how to get started, sign-up to be a General Volun-teer or a member of the Pot Luck Committee. This year, we are signing up our volunteers online via VolunteerSpot. It's a really neat website that shows you what we need volunteers for and lets you sign up in a slot that suits your level of commitment. You must use the following link to sign-up http://vols.pt/1ech8r If you prefer to volunteer for an event by email, please contact us at mailto:[email protected]
Reminder - If you are not participating in the SimpleQpon fundraiser,

News from Nurse Teske
Tis the season for LICE!! Lice are tiny, wingless insects
that live on the human scalp. They are as big as sesame seeds . Nits are lice eggs. They are on the hair shaft and can’t be brushed away. Using a nit comb is the best way to remove the nit. Lice can’t fly or jump from one person to another, they can only crawl. Children often get head lice from head to head contact, but many can get them from sharing personal
items such as a hat, comb and headbands. If you no-
tice your child scratching his or her head often espe-
cially behind the ears or at the nape of the neck, check these
areas and DON’T PANIC. You can treat their head
with over the counter lice shampoo and a conditioner that will help remove the nits. It is really important to remove the nits because they will hatch and reinfest the scalp. It is important to wash clothes in hot water including bed sheets. Vacuum and make sure you put the vacuum bag in another bag after use to dis-card. Stuffed animals that they play with should be put in a plastic bag and kept in the garage for at least 2 weeks. Wash all hair brushes and combs in hot wa-ter. Encourage your child not to share hats , brushes or combs with each other. Should your child come down with lice, let the school nurse know and after doing the steps to get rid of them, you child can return to school and the school nurse will check to make sure the lice are gone.
Dear Parent,
Your school is participating in our annual Spread the Love peanut butter food drive
from September 1 -- September 30. Spread the Love is designed to be a fun and
engaging way for students to participate in Hunger Action Month and learn about
the needs of their community while also fostering their competitive spirit in order to
raise jars of peanut butter for the hungry.
Why peanut butter? Peanut butter, like meat and eggs, is rich in protein. While meat
and eggs can be expensive, peanut butter can be an inexpensive and feasible diet
staple for low-income families. The Food Bank gives away more than 96,000 jars of
peanut butter each year. Our goal for Spread the Love is to collect more than
20,000 jars by September 30th.
My sincere hope is that Spread the Love will allow your child to become aware of
hunger in our region and give them the opportunity to take action and help provide
food and hope to those in need. The gift of our time, energy, passion, and most im-
portantly our empathy can positively impact the lives of our impoverished neigh-
bors.
As a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief charity, the
Food Bank of Northwest Indiana created Spread the Love to give school children the
opportunity to become hunger relief advocates in their community. Thank you in
advance for your participation.
Sincerely,
Victor Ortiz “Mr. Food Man”
