WORK OF THE FORTNIGHT

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE

NUT ALLERGY

We have students in the school with allergies to peanuts and/ or nuts. The allergy can cause the children to have an anaphylactic reaction. To minimise the risk we ask that parents/ carers do not include peanut paste, nuts etc in their child’s morning tea and lunch. This would be very much appreciated, however we understand this is not always possible.

Thank you to parents involved for checking the expiry date on their children’s medication that is used at school. (eg: epipens, Claratyne, asthma puffers etc)

IN TERM SWIMMING

Swimming information in regard to the in term swimming program for Pre Primary to Year 6 children in our school will be coming home on Tuesday 17 October with your child.

SCHOOL ARRIVAL TIME

Thank you to parents for ensuring children are at school when the siren sounds at 8:40 am. Classrooms are open at 8:30 am to allow the children time to prepare for the school day. Parents are asked to make an interview time with their child’s teacher, rather than a rushed conversa-tion about their child’s progress etc. at drop off and pick up times.

RECORDER GROUP

The recorder group were involved in two big events in Week 10 of Term 4. On Tuesday 19 September our school hosted the recorder festival with two other schools in attendance; and on Thursday 21 September the recorder group visited with Bold Park School to perform in a lunch time concert. Thank you to Mrs Judith Haldane for all her work with these events.

In 2018 Lake Monger Primary School will celebrate 10 years as a water wise school.

How much physical activity should my child be doing?

School age children need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. But more is better, so encourage your child to be active for up to several hours each day. Children need a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. ‘Moderate activity’ is any activity which is similar in intensity to a brisk walk e.g. bike riding or active playing. ‘Vigorous activity’ is any activity which makes your child “huff and puff” e.g. organised sports, ballet, running or swimming laps. Any activity that requires your child to expend energy should be encouraged. Go to http://raisingchildren.net.au for more information. For more information go to https://livelighter.com.au/ Contact your local Community Health Nurse or Community Health Centre, Deb Aggett on 0417 851 497 for more information.
