Mr Edwards and Minya will be taking a selected group of students from Years 3-6 to Cowra to participate in Indigenous dance lessons. Whilst the students are learning the techniques involved, Minya and Mr Edwards will also be learning how to teach Indigenous dance to students. Students who are involved in this will receive notes with details about the day. The Year 3 assembly that was scheduled for 2nd September will now take place on Wednesday 9th September at 2:20pm due to the Healthy Kids Bus Stop using the school hall. Have a great week. Year 6 Canberra Excursion On 3rd August the Year 6 students set off on an adventure to our Nation’s Capital, Canberra. They battled the below zero temperatures and endeavoured to learn as much as they could while having as much fun as possible. The itinerary was packed with visits to places like Parliament House, The Deep Space Observation Centre, Questacon, Dinosaur Museum, The Australian War Memorial and even Ten Pin Bowling and Laser Tag. All students demonstrated our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Learning and were praised on many occasions on their excellent behaviour. Year 6 would like to thank everyone who helped them raise money by either making a donation or supporting their various fundraisers. Also a very special mention to the P&C for their very kind donation. Georgia Bramich

Year 6 at the War Memorial in Canberra

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the National Capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the National Capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. Book Week 2015

We will be holding our 2015 Book Week costume parade on Wednesday 26th August at 2.20pm. Parents are invited to come along and enjoy our parade of infants and primary students dressed as characters from favourite books.

Tell it from me survey

This term, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student, parent and teacher survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students, parents and teachers think about school life. This survey will help our school better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school identify what works to improve student outcomes.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child does not wish to. A consent form will be handed out to all students. If you do not wish your child to participate, please sign the form and return it to the school.

The first link room in the Administration Block has now been transformed into the Head Teacher

Welfare Office (next to sick bay). This is where Mrs O’Neill can now be found. If any students,

parents or guardians wish to speak to someone about a welfare issue within the school please feel free to call in or make an appointment with the school. The PBL Official Launch will take place in October in Term 4. This day will be jam packed with guest speakers, special guests and fun activities to celebrate the positive changes which have now occurred in our school. School uniform at Lake Cargelligo Central School is compulsory and the more students in uniform the better our students look and feel as a cohort. The Uniform Policy is currently being redrafted to make positive changes to our school culture. Uniform is extremely important as it enables teachers to easily identify students and keep them safe.

EARLY ACTION for SUCCESS (EAfS) L3 (Language Learning and Literacy) Language, Learning and Literacy (L3) is a research-based, classroom intervention, targeting text reading and writing. Students receive explicit instruction in reading and writing strategies in small groups of three to four selected students. Students then rotate to independent individual or group tasks. This occurs in the daily Literacy session. The program goal is to reduce the need for more intensive and resource demanding programs in future years and to support students to read fluently and for meaning. L3 is initially a Kindergarten intervention but the model of small group instruction is extended into Stage One with the aim of developing independent reading by the end of Year 2. At Lake Cargelligo Central School this model has now been extended into Years 3 to 6 to allow small group instruction of all students in reading and writing. The aim of the Primary L3 model is to support those students needing intervention to achieve end of stage benchmarks and to extend the capable readers with more complex texts through the explicit teaching in small groups at the point of student need. Lake Maths (LM) The LM model is being trialled K-6 in Semester 2 to try and get the shift for students in Numeracy that we have been seeing with the L3 model with the Literacy outcomes. Students receive explicit instruction in the Numeracy Continuum Aspects of Early Arithmetic Strategies, Place Value and Multiplication and Division in small groups of three to four selected students. Students then rotate to independent individual or group tasks. This occurs in the daily Numeracy session. As with L3, the aim of LM is to support those students needing intervention to achieve end of stage benchmarks and to move the ‘on track’ students through the higher levels of the Numeracy Continuum with explicit teaching in small groups at the point of student need. Evidence based The student groups in L3 and LM are formed based on the PLAN data that is entered from the individual Literacy and Numeracy tracking sheets kept on each student. The Literacy and Numeracy Continuums provide suggested resources to
