Auxiliary Resolution of Condolence

(created by #1704, Newton Ladies Auxiliary)

Upon notification of a Sister of the Auxiliarypassing, someone from the Auxiliary willmake a phone call to the family to see ifthere is something we can do.

A wreath has been made, similar to the KCCouncil wreath that will be placed at thecasket. This wreath is kept at our funeralhome with the Knights of Columbus wreath.

At the service someone from the Auxiliarywill read the Resolution of Condolence andgive it to the family along with a card inform-ing them that a donation of Altar Linen willbe given to the church in memory of ourWorthy Sister.

There were door prizes passed out bynumber to save time.

State Chairlady Sandy Decker mentionedthat the Ladies Auxiliary are not to use thewords “Knights of Columbus” or the use ofthe KC 3rd Degree logo for any auxiliaryaffiliation. There is a resolution on thefloor concerning this and will be voted onSunday, May 6, 2012. An update willfollow after the Supreme K of CConvention in Anaheim, California.

A question was brought up by an auxiliaryin Harrisburg about how to enter for Statecompetition of Ladies Auxiliary awardsand Sandy said that a packet was sent outin December to the auxiliary presidents, and follow up information was also on thewebpage. Business cards were on theentrance table for anyone needing furtherguidance. Needs due to a weather relatedincident will be provided to Harrisburg ifasked. This statement was noted byDonna Russell and Deb Matson.

Coats for Kids was adopted by three ofour auxiliaries this year, #658, RockIsland, #5918 Woodridge, and #3936Harrisburg.

Another program adopted by auxiliarieswas “Soles for Soles”. Money donationsare also accepted. The shoes aredispersed where needed.

Secretary Saundra Bronson from #3602mentioned that their auxiliary createsburial cloths for the people in Haiti. If thereis an interest , check out NPH and Friendsof the Orphans for ways to donate.

Mary’s Millenium #12801, PresidentJohna Brand said that they support theTroops, and also Woman’s Crisis Centerin Elgin. Not long ago the center had a fireand were in desperate need of diapersand pajamas.

Prayer for Condolence

A sister dear has passed away

Bless her Lord we humbly pray

As we remember her, we shed a tear

Lord, let her know we miss her here

She lived her life as a sister true

Serving others and honoring You

Take her into your loving embrace

As now she sees You face to face

And some day we will all meet again,

As a sister and as a friend….Amen

BARBECUE SAFETY HINTS

Don’t leave perishable food (anythingyou’d normally refrigerate) out for morethan two hours, or you and your guestscould wind up ingesting dangerous bacte-ria, which you can’t see, smell or taste.

Bacteria grow rapidly in foods that arebetween 40 and 140 degrees-in fact, colo-nies can double in as little as 20 minutes. So, if you absolutely must keep food outfor more than a couple of hours, keep hotdishes above 140 degrees and cold onesbelow 40.

And those leftovers? Simply putting foodback into the fridge doesn’t make it safe.Stash a refrigerator thermometer inside tomake sure the internal temperature isbelow 40 degrees. Even at 45 degrees, bacteria can grow. Don’t pack your fridgetoo full—this blocks circulation and raisesfood temps.

88%

REDUCTION IN CANCER-CAUSINGCHEMICALS IN GRILLED MEAT WHEN-MARINADE IS USED.

Grilling meat over high temps triggers theformation of carcinogenic chemicals calledheterocyclic amines (HCAs). A tasty anti-dote? Marinate meats for at least an hourbefore you grill to cut HCA formation by57-88 percent, say researchers at KansasState University. Marinating meat in spicyliquids that contain oil, water, vinegar andherbs—such as rosemary and sage—isespecially effective.
