Big City, Bigger Fun! Grab a cab and get ready for fun around every corner in

the Big Apple Adventure, Where Faith and Life Connect. As kids explore the big

city, they’ll learn how to step out in faith and connect with Jesus--sharing the

message of Christ with their world.

Be watching your bulletin in June for more information on

how you can be a BIG part of VBS this year.

Cryptogram Basics: In any type of standard cryptogram

puzzle, one letter of the alphabet is substituted with another

letter. The same substitution is used throughout a single

puzzle. When you're solving cryptograms, remember that if A

Polly VanLear Circle

(a co-ed Bible study group)

Our meetings in June will be June 14, and June 27 at 1

P.M. We will be studing A Fruitful Vine, pages 92-115,

on June 14. On June 27, we will study My hope is in the

Lord, pages120-143. You have been doing such a good

job of doing your homework and being ready to discuss.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

See you on the 14th.

Marion Fields Circle

(a missionary focus group for women)

Our June meeting will be on June 20, which is a

change of normal meeting time for us. Marcia Wham

will be the hostess and Seatta Wilhelm will have the

prayer calendar. We will meet at the church building.

The program will be "FISCALLY" FIT. Are Elliott

and Mischelle Baze really missionaries? Well let's hear

their story and decide for ourselves. Hope to see you

there on June 20.

SOUP LABELS

We are still collecting Campbell's Soup Labels. We

do need the entire label and not just the front panel. This

will be an ongoing project so please be aware of opening

the can and save the label. A basket is located in the

window sill of the educational building to collect these

labels. Thank you.

SHOES and SHADES

We will be collecting children's shoes (not flip flops)

and children's sun glasses for the Standing Rock

Reservation in ND and SD. WMU of Virginia and

Virginia Mission Board are partnering with Standing

Rock for missions. A group will be going to Standing

Rock from Virginia soon and we want to have our part in

the partnering. Starting on June 1st a box will be placed

in the foyer of the educational building to collect these

two items. Any size or style of children's shoes are

acceptable but no flip flops.

Last year when old prescription glasses were sent the

children wanted the glasses. Of course, they could not be

given the glasses, so this year we will send the children

sun glasses. Thank you in advance for helping with this

project.

PRIMETIMERS

LUNCHEON Primetimers will meet

Monday June 20th at 12:00

for lunch. The host committee

will provide the meal. Jo Ann

Steel will present our

program. Jo Ann is a Sioux Indian and is active working

with other Indians in this area.

Our own Brenda Watson has

participated in some projects

with her. Her group helps

provide Toys for Indian

Children in South Dekota for

Christmas. Contact Lucille

Huntington if you have any

questions.

Covered Dish Fellowship Dinner Sunday, June 5, 2011

(Following the Morning Worship Service)

Come join us on Sunday,

June 5th for a covered dish

dinner. For those who can we

ask that you provide a dish of

- meat, vegetable, salad or

dessert - to share with others.

The bread and beverage will

be provide.

Sunday, June 5th we will

also be recognizing our High

School graduate - Tommy

Williams. Tommy is graduating from Alleghany High

School this year. Take a moment on Sunday to

congratulate him.

Summer is almost here!! Wow that’s hard to believe.

It won’t be long now before you will be out of school for

the summer. (Lazy days) Before we get carried away

with talks of lazy days let’s remember that God provides

all things, the air we breathe, the light we call day, and of

course night time. Just as we looked at Colossians 3:17

the other night, God reminds us that we are to Do All in

the Name of the Lord. Have you slipped away from Bible

study? Kinda got wrapped up in after school activities

and haven’t been in awhile? It’s ok; we’re still here and

would love to have you back!!

If you are a part of the group going to summer camp

let’s finish our fundraising strong. We have a carwash at

Advance Auto on Saturday June 11th. We will meet here

at CFBC at 9am to go set up. The carwash will be from

10am-2:30pm!! Please be sure to come by and support

the youth as they work to meet their goal. *Parents: You

will be receiving a camp newsletter in the mail soon out

lining some important information. Please be on the

lookout!!

Summer calendars should be avaible for pick-up by

Wednesday June 8th. Please be sure to get your copy.

These calendars outline the activities for the summer

including VBS, Teen Week, Summer Camp, and other

fun activities and Bible studies. Be sure to use your

summer wisely. Invite a friend to come and hangout with

us this summer as we have fun, but also as we explore

God’s Word.

YOUTH LEADERS MEETING Monday, June 13, 2011

7:00 PM

SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEART

"These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD

your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land

that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you,

your children and their children after them may fear the

LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his

decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you

may enjoy long life." (Deuteronomy 6:1-2)

What does God care about more, obedience or love?

Don't answer just yet. It's kind of a trick question. We're

going to spend this next week talking about the answer

by listening in on Deuteronomy 6.

Do you remember learning about this moment? The

Israelites were a homeless country. Well, they had a

home. They just hadn't seen it, yet. The time had finally

come to stop wandering in the wilderness and go into the

Promised Land, kick out the folks living there, and call it

home.

The key to making that happen? One word: obedience.

God said it, and Moses wrote it. If the people would obey

-- and their kids and grandkids would keep obeying --

they would enjoy long and successful lives in their new

home.

Remember how that turned out?

Think: Why do you think that human beings have such a

hard time obeying God? What do you think is the

connection between what our hearts feel and what we

actually do?

Pray: Ask God to help you to obey Him. Thank Him for

loving you, especially by sending Jesus to die in your

place on the cross.

Do: Make a quick list of the top 5 people you love and

the top 5 people you are told to obey. Circle the ones that

make both lists.

Keep Looking up, Jeff

Clifton Forge Baptist Church Deacon’s Corner

Your deacons have been very busy with activities

associated with pulpit supply since late March. As a

result of the congregational vote at the business meeting

on Sunday, May 22, to call an intentional interim pastor,

they are currently working with the Virginia Baptist

Mission Board to seek an appropriate interim for CFBC.

Soon thereafter, a search committee will be nominated

and trained to begin its task of eventually calling the full-

time Shepherd our Lord is preparing for the church.

Your deacons will continue to keep you updated on

progress and will try to answer any questions you may

have.

The deadline for 2011-2012 college-bound students to

apply for the Tootie Moore scholarship is June 12. The

2012-2014 deacon nominations will begin June 26 and

run through August 7. Nomination forms will be placed

in the Sunday church bulletin during that time period.

As the time approaches, please be in prayer for guidance

from the Holy Spirit in making nominations.

Finally, we ask that you please continue to pray for

your deacons and our fellowship as we seek direction

from our Lord and His plans for CFBC.

What Makes a Dad God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

When there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so, He called it ... Dad

doing great! We had around 16 visits in

the month of May. The closet is open on

the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Thank you to

Brenda Watson and Annabelle Dew who are here to

assist each opening. Also, thank you to Brenda Ellis for

coming by this past Tuesday and helping.

Thank you to CFBC for supporting this outreach.

Please remember that we do take donations of gently

used/new clothing.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast MEN OF THE CHURCH……...come and join us here at

CFBC on Saturday, June 4th at 8:00 AM for a time of

fellowship, devotion, prayer and food.

TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE

There are two kinds of people: those

who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and

those to whom God says, “all right, then,

have it your way.”

C.S. Lewis

Heavens Grocery Store I was walking down life’s highway, a long time ago. One day I saw a sign that said “Heavens Grocery Store.” As I got a little closer, the door came open wide, And when I came to myself I was standing inside. I saw a host of Angels, they were standing everywhere. One handed me a basket and said “My child, shop with care.” Everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store. And all that you couldn’t carry you could come back the next day for more. First I got some Patience, Love was in the same row. Further down was Understanding, you need that everywhere you go. I got a box of Wisdom, a bag or two of Faith. I just couldn’t miss the Holy Spirit, for it was all over the place. I stopped to get some Strength and Courage to help me run this race. By then my basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed some Grace. I didn’t forget Salvation: that was free. So I tried to get enough of that to save both you and me. Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery bill. For I thought that I had everything to do my Master’s will. As I went up the aisle I saw Prayer, and I just had to put that in, For I know when I stepped outside I would run right into Sin. Peace and joy were plentiful, They were on the last shelf. Songs and Praises were hanging near, so I just helped myself. Then I said to the Angel, “Now how much do I owe?” He just smiled and said, “Just take them everywhere you go.” Again I smiled at him and asked, “How much do I really owe?” He smiled again and said, “My child, Jesus paid your bill long ago.”

16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of

Christ: for it is the power of God unto salva-

tion to every one that believeth; to the Jew

first, and also to the Greek.
