SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente ha inscrito en mayúsculas su nombre en la historia de San-ta María Polo Club. El equipo estadounidense, en su prime-ra participación en Sotogrande, ha completado un 43 Torneo In-ternacional Land Rover de Polo perfecto con la consecución de la Triple Corona, un hito que no se daba desde 2008. El conjun-to de Adolfo Cambiaso doblegó el pasado sábado 30 de agos-to a Ellerston en la final de la Copa de Oro Bulgari por 14 a 11. Los dos equipos ofrecieron el mejor partido del torneo y la final más espectacular que se recuerda en muchos años en Sotogrande.

Nada más pisar las instala-ciones de Santa María se pal-paba que el ambiente era es-pecial, propio de las grandes citas deportivas. El despliegue de Fuerzas de Seguridad im-pactaba, así como la avalan-cha de público dirigiéndose a la cancha IV de Los Pinos. El cartel de no hay billetes se col-

gó pronto en las gradas, por lo que muchos se afanaron en buscar un hueco por donde pu-dieran ver el encuentro.

La final era la soñada para la Copa de Oro de alto handi-cap: Valiente frente a Ellerston. El equipo invicto hasta el mo-mento contra el defensor del título del año pasado. Cambia-so, el mejor jugador del mundo, frente a los hermanos Facundo y Gonzalo Pieres, los números 2 y 6 del ranking internacional de la WPT. Sólo se podía pedir un buen partido, y los conten-dientes no defraudaron.

Ellerston llegaba a la gran final con una sola derrota en su casillero, precisamente frente a Valiente, que lo tumbó con re-lativa comodidad en las semi-finales de la Copa de Plata. Sin embargo, nada más empezó a rodar la bocha sobre el césped se palpó que esta vez iba a ser distinto y que el conjunto aus-traliano iba a darlo todo sobre la cancha.

igualdad absoluta. El inter-cambio de golpes entre ambos cuartetos fue constante, en una primera fase del encuentro ge-nerosa en goles.

Valiente llegó al término del primer chukker con ventaja por 3-2. Una distancia que mantu-vo en el segundo (6-5). El equi-po patroneado por Bob Jorna-yvaz no logró despegarse en ningún momento y Ellerston puso la igualada (8-8) en el ter-cer chukker.

La segunda fase del encuen-tro empezó bien distinta. Los dos equipos tomaron los mí-nimos riesgos y exprimieron a sus caballos al máximo. Las tácticas llamaban a salvaguar-dar las porterías y se defen-dió al límite. Crear una ocasión costaba sudor y los nervios afloraron al fallarse algunas claras, incluidos lanzamien-tos de penaltis. La lucha de los dos equipos fue sublime. Cam-biaso capitaneaba con maes-tría a Valiente ayudado por sus dos escuderos de lujo: Santi To-rres y Santi Laborde. Mientras, Ellerston daba muestras de su potencial con los hermanos Pieres al frente, acompañados

por Thomas Brodie y James Packer. La igualdad era abso-luta. Muestra de ello es que en el cuarto chukker sólo se mo-vió el marcador en una ocasión para cada equipo. Lo mismo pasó en el quinto. Sólo queda-ba el sexto y definitivo chukker. Siete minutos para decidir el campeón con 10 a 10 en el mar-cador. Máxima emoción y las espadas en todo lo alto.

En el último asalto salió a relucir el polo de la más alta escuela. No había margen para las dudas y los dos equipos sa-lieron decididos hacia la victo-ria. El partido se abrió y volvió el mejor juego de ataque. Fue entonces cuando surgió la figu-ra de Cambiaso, a la postre de-cisiva para declinar la balanza.

Valiente tomó las riendas del encuentro y marcó pron-to dos goles (12 a 10), abrien-do brecha por primera vez en el partido. Ellerston se volcó a tumba abierta a por el empa-te, consciente de que se le iba el partido. El conjunto austra-liano recortó distancias mer-ced a un tanto de Facundo Pie-res, uno de los mejores goles del torneo. El argentino cabal-

gó por el lateral presionado por varios adversarios y golpeó la bocha casi desde el córner co-lándola en la portería. El ma-nejo del taco del jugador y su enorme puntería levantaron al graderío. Había partido. El pa-trón de Valiente arengaba al pú-blico. La tensión era máxima.

Pero Cambiaso no estaba dispuesto a que se le escapara la final y volvió a marcar tras deshacerse de varios rivales.

En el palenque de Valiente se celebró el gol por todo lo alto. La Copa de Oro estaba cerca y el mejor jugador del mundo la rubricó con una jugada difícil de olvidar. Con Ellerston vol-cado, Cambiaso cogió la bocha en su propio campo y enfiló la portería a lomos de su caballo a la velocidad del trueno. Sus

oponentes no pudieron darle caza y el argentino se metió con la bocha dentro del arco. No había tiempo para más. Va-liente era el campeón tras po-ner el 14 a 11 en el marcador.

Con el pitido final, los ju-gadores cabalgaron hasta su palenque tirando los tacos al aire. Allí ya daban saltos de alegría los responsables y peti-seros del equipo. Cambiaso fue el primero en llegar y se fundió en un abrazo con su mujer Ma-ría Vázquez. Jornayvaz hacía lo propio con su familia, mientras se bailaba al grito de “campeo-nes”. No faltó el baño de agua para Laborde mientras era en-trevistado por la ESPN.

El patrón de Valiente no ocultó su satisfacción por el triunfo y destacó la dificultad de la final contra Ellerston. “Ha sido un gran partido. Tengo que reconocer que los Pieres son unos rivales increíbles, han ju-gado muy bien. Hasta el último minuto no se sabía quién iba a ganar, así que ha sido un gran partido”, indicó el de Colorado. Jornayvaz también subrayó la calidad del torneo en Sotogran-de: “La competición ha sido in-

creíble. Tengo que reconocer a Santa María su fantástica la-bor al traer a 12 equipos tan espectaculares”.

Cambiaso, por su par-te, destacó el gran trabajo de la organización tras ganar su segunda Copa de Oro en So-togrande tras la de 1999 con Outback. Asimismo, apuntó a su próxima parada, en Argenti-na, donde intentará repetir con su equipo La Dolfina el éxito de la Triple Corona de 2013.

Luego, la fiesta de Valiente se trasladó a la ceremonia de entrega de trofeos, donde reci-bieron la Copa de Oro Bulgari de manos del actor Jordi Mo-llá y de la princesa Beatriz de Orleans. El cuarteto de Valien-te alzó al cielo, por tercera vez consecutiva este verano, una copa; algo que no se veía en Sotogrande desde 2008 cuan-do lo hizo Ahmibah, del patrón Bahar Jefri y Pablo Mac Do-nough. Valiente se confirmaba así como el mejor equipo de la temporada con la Triple Coro-na. El broche de lujo bañado en oro para este 43 Torneo Inter-nacional Land Rover, el mejor de la historia de Santa María.

SOTOGRANDE.- Valiente has inscribed its name in capital letters in the history books of the Santa Maria Polo Club. The American team, in their first appearance in Sotogrande, fi-nished off a perfect tourna-ment with their Triple Crown win at the 43rd Land Rover In-ternational Polo Tournament, an accomplishment that has not happened since 2008. Adol-fo Cambiaso’s team defeated Ellerston on Saturday 30th Au-gust in the final of the Bulga-ri Gold Cup by 14-11. The two teams put on the best match of the tournament, and the most spectacular final in living me-mory for many years in Soto-grande.

The atmosphere emanating from inside the facilities of the Santa Maria club was spec-tacular, typical of such large sporting events. The display from the Security Forces cer-tainly made an impact, as well as the swaths of members of the public who headed towards the Los Pinos IV field. A sign stating ‘Sold out’ soon hung from the stands, a reason why many attempted to find a gap, from where they could watch the match.

It was a dream final for the high handicap Gold Cup: Va-liente against Ellerston. The so far undefeated team against last year’s defending cham-pion. Cambiaso, the best pla-yer in the world, up against

brothers, Facundo and Gonzalo Pieres, 2nd and 6th in the WPT International Polo rankings. You could have only asked for a great match, and the competi-tors did not disappoint.

Ellerston reached the final with only one defeat to their

name, coincidentally against Valiente, who easily knocked the team out of the Semi-finals of the Silver cup. However, as soon as the ball began to roll on the grass, it was soon felt that this time would be diffe-rent, and the Australian team

was ready to give their all on the field.

The game started at a break-taking pace and the scores were even. In the first phase of the match, plenty of goals were scored and the exchange of blo-ws between the two teams was

constant.Valiente finished the first

chukker with the lead, 3-2. A gap they maintained going into the second chukker (6-5). The team led by Bob Jornayvaz fai-led to increase their lead and Ellerston equalised (8-8) in the third chukker.

The second phase of the match started very differen-tly. The two teams took very few risks and pushed their hor-ses to their limits. Their tactics were to shield the goals, and they defended them as much as possible.

Creating an opportuni-ty cost sweat, and the fear of failure was clearly on show, even during penalties. The battle between the two tea-ms was sublime. Cambiaso masterfully captained Valien-te, helped by his two teamma-tes: Santi Torres and Santi La-borde. Meanwhile, Ellerston showed signs of their poten-tial with the Pieres brothers up in front, accompanied by Thomas Brodie and James Pac-ker. It was neck and neck. Pro-of of this came in the fourth chukker when the scoreboard only changed once for each team. The same thing happe-ned in the fifth chukker. Only the sixth and final chukker re-mained. de the champion with 10-10 on the scoreboard. Emotions were running high and the stakes were higher still.

In the final assault, the hig-hest quality polo was on show. There was no room for doubt and the two teams came out determined to win. The game opened up and the best attac-king game returned. It was then when the figure of Cam-biaso emerged in the final mo-ments to round off the sco-res. Valiente took charge of the game and quickly scored two goals (12-10), opening a gap for the first time in the mat-ch. Ellerston, aware that they were loosing the game, tur-ned around at full speed for an equaliser. The Australian team narrowed the gap thanks to a goal from Facundo Pieres, sco-ring one of the best goals of the tournament. The Argenti-nian rode down the side of the pitch, pressurised by several opponents, and hit the ball al-most from the corner, sneaking it right into the goal.

The player’s shot and his tremendous aim raised the

roof. Valiente’s patron haran-gued the crowds. The tension was intense.

But Cambiaso was not pre-pared to let the final slip away and came back to score after getting rid of several rivals. In Valiente’s enclosure, the goal was being celebrated. The Gold Cup was close and the best pla-yer in the world finished it off with an unforgettable move. With Ellerston struggling, Cambiaso took the ball for hi-mself and headed towards the goal on top of his horse at lig-htening speed. His opponents could not give chase and the Argentinian rode into the goal with the ball. Time was up. Va-liente were the champions af-ter scoring 14-11 on the score-board.

At the final whistle, the pla-yers rode to their enclosure throwing their mallets into the

air. There the teams’ managers and grooms were jumping for joy. Cambiaso was the first to arrive and embraced his wife María Vázquez. Jornayvaz also embraced his family, whilst he danced around shouting ‘cham-pions’. A bucket of water was thrown over Laborde as he was being interviewed by ESPN.

Valiente’s patron could not hide his delight at the victory and highlighted the difficul-ty of the final against Ellers-ton. “It has been a great game. I have to admit that the Pie-res brothers are incredible ri-vals, they have played very well. Right until the last minu-te no one knew who would win, and so it was a great game”, he said from Colorado. Jornayvaz also highlighted the quality of the tournament in Sotogran-de: “The competition has been incredible. I have to recognise the hard work of the Santa Ma-ria Club for bringing together 12 spectacular teams”.

Cambiaso, for his part, em-phasised the great work of the organisation after winning his second Gold Cup in Soto-

grande, after his 1999 victory with Outback. He also talked about his next stop, in Argenti-na, where he intends to repeat his 2013 Triple Crown success with his team La Dolfina.

Soon afterwards, Valiente’s party moved to the awards ce-remony, where they were pre-sented with the Bulgari Gold Cup from actor Jordi Mollá and Princess Beatrice of Or-leans. The Valiente quartet rai-sed their glasses for the third time in a row this summer; so-mething that hasn’t been seen in Sotogrande since 2008 and a win for Ahmibah, from patrons Bahar Jefri and Pablo Mac Do-nough. With the Triple Crown, Valiente was declared as the best team of the season. It was the icing on the cake for this 43rd Land Rover Tournament, the best in the history of the Santa Maria Polo Club.

SOTOGRANDE.- El argentino Adolfo Cambiaso, del equipo Valiente, fue designado como el mejor jugador del torneo. El presidente de Santa María Polo Club, Ramón Mora-Figue-roa, fue el encargado de entre-garle el trofeo, que desde este año tiene un carácter muy es-pecial para la entidad al llevar el nombre de ‘Memorial Javier Novillo-Astrada’ en homenaje al polista recientemente falle-cido. Mora-Figueroa quiso ren-dir un sentido tributo a Novi-llo-Astrada en la ceremonia de premios, recordando su gran categoría humana y profesio-nal, así como la entereza con la que luchó contra el cáncer.

El presidente de Santa Ma-ría destacó la vinculación de Novillo-Astrada con Sotogran-de, que viene de su padre Talio desde los años 60. Mora-Figue-roa recordó que el polista jugó con Santa María la primera vez que salió de Argentina, al prin-cipio de los 90, para participar en un torneo. Asimismo, subra-yó la “caballerosidad, hombría, educación y sentido común” de Novillo-Astrada, siendo un ejemplo a seguir dentro del mundo del polo. Por todos es-tos valores que encarnó Javier, Santa María ha querido ponerle su nombre al trofeo al mejor ju-gador de la Copa de Oro. Y qué mejor estreno que este primer trofeo Novillo-Astrada recaiga en Cambiaso, al que ya muchos

y. o. / sotogrande.- Luis Es-trada, vicepresidente de San-ta María Polo Club, declaró, nada más concluir la ceremo-nia de entrega de premios, que el cierre de la edición núme-ro 43 del Torneo Land Rover de Polo no podía haber teni-do mejor colofón. “Creo que hemos presenciado un parti-do como no se ha visto en los últimos años. Ha sido compe-tido, hemos disfrutado has-ta el final, con un nivel de po-lo espectacular, y con los me-jores jugadores del mundo. No podemos estar más conten-

tos”, aclaró Estrada. El vice-presidente añadió que la que se acababa de disputar había sido una de las mejores fina-les que se han disputado en el club. “Creo que el nivel de polo que estamos disfrutando en el Santa María es el mejor de Eu-ropa. Quizás nos iguale la Co-pa de Oro en Inglaterra, y es lo más alto en el polo europeo, por lo tanto, estamos al más alto nivel”, añadió el respon-sable del club. Estrada mani-festó además que todo había funcionado como estaba pre-visto, y aunque siempre hay

cosas que mejorar, declaró que el balance final es muy bueno, y que eso les anima a empren-der nuevas aventuras cara al próximo año. “Hemos de mejo-rar, hacer nuevas cosas, y cada año sorprender por el conte-nido y las novedades que tie-ne este torneo, que no solo es una cita deportiva, sino tam-bién social, cultural, etcétera”, apuntó el vicepresidente. Por último, adelantó que entre los planes del club está organi-zar una temporada de media-no handicap para el mes de ju-nio de 2015.

bién se procedió a la entrega del trofeo al mejor caballo, que fue para ‘One Magnífica’, pro-piedad de Facundo Pieres del equipo Ellerston. El encargado de hacer los honores fue el cón-sul de la República Argentina en Cádiz, Agustín Núñez.

Asimismo, también se dio la copa al vencedor del ‘Memorial Pedro Domecq de la Riva’ que fue Lechuza Caracas tras ganar la final subsidiaria de alto han-dicap a Halcyon Gallery por 10 a 8. El equipo venezolano está patroneado por Víctor Vargas y ha contado en sus filas con

el jugador Juan Martín Nero. Los encargados de entregar el trofeo fueron Pedro Domecq y Dolores Marchena, primera te-niente de alcalde de San Roque.

De esta forma llegaba a su fin una temporada histórica. El 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover será recordado por la gran temporada de Valiente, por la presencia de cinco de los me-jores jugadores mundo, (Adolfo Cambiaso, Gonzalo y Facundo Pieres, Juan Martín Nero y Da-vid Stirling), por el récord de equipos inscritos, por la cali-dad de los partidos en los tres niveles y por la espectacular organización que, un año más, han puesto el foco de atención del mundo del polo en Santa María Polo Club en agosto.

Beatriz de Orleans, en declaraciones a este periódi-co, destacó el gran nivel de la final disputada entre Valiente y Ellerston. “La verdad es que ha sido una final muy emocio-nante. Los caballos de los dos equipos son impresionantes y muy bonitos. Ha sido un par-tido muy limpio, muy franco. Valiente y Ellerston son dos conjuntos fantásticos. No ha habido ningún problema ni trampas durante todo el en-cuentro. Hacía muchos años que no veía una final como és-ta tan emocionante”, manifes-tó la princesa.

Beatriz de Orleans asegu-ró que para ella es “un gran honor” amadrinar cada año un torneo como éste, con tan-to nivel como el que se ha dis-putado esta temporada en las canchas de Santa María Polo Club de Sotogrande. “El polo es un magnífico deporte y lo bonito es que cada año va a más. Yo me acuerdo del pri-mer año que era un torneo muy pequeño y cada año va tomando más cuerpo. El tor-neo de Santa María Polo Club ya es conocido en toda Euro-pa y el polo de Sotogrande ya es reconocido al máximo nivel internacional. Hay un equipo fantástico de gente que tra-baja al máximo cada tempo-rada. Además, tienen valores humanos muy importantes. Seguro que todo esto hace que siga creciendo. Yo voy mucho a disfrutar del polo a Fran-cia. También estuve hace dos meses en Italia. Y la verdad es que como lo que he visto hoy, nada que se le compare”, dijo.

La princesa aprovecha es-tos días para descansar con

su familia en Sotogrande, un destino que calificó como “ma-ravilloso”. “Lo conozco desde hace muchos años. Es un lu-gar para veranear muy ale-gre. En Sotogrande todo está muy cuidado y limpio. Nun-ca tienes ningún problema. Y además va creciendo cada año. Sólo dar mi enhorabue-na a Santa María Polo Club y a Sotogrande por este 43 Tor-neo Internacional Land Rover de Polo tan espectacular y por habernos brindado la mejor final de la Copa de Oro Bul-gari que podíamos soñar”, de-claró la princesa.

Embajador de BulgariEl actor Jordi Mollá, por

su parte, explicó que Bulga-ri España le propuso ser su embajador para el proyecto Save the Children y que, una vez acordaron enfocarlo por

el arte y la creatividad, no le costó decirles que sí. “Vamos a empezar a ir a escuelas es-pañolas con este proyecto, que lleva como lema ‘El arte cura’. Queremos que los niños sean lo que quieran ser y a través de la pintura puedan plasmar-lo”, indicó Mollá, que recien-temente ha mostrado su face-ta de pintor con exposiciones en Marbella e Ibiza. “Soy un supermercado, un actor que pinta o una persona inquieta que le gusta crear”, añadió el actor, que en breve viajará a Londres para empezar el ro-daje de su nueva película ‘Cri-minal’ en la que comparte re-parto con Gary Oldman, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones o Ryan Reynolds.

SOTOGRANDE.- Argentinian Adolfo Cambiaso, from the Va-liente team, was named best player of the tournament. The President of the Santa Maria Polo Club, Ramón Mora-Figue-roa, presented the award, whi-ch from this year is particu-larly significant for the club as it bears the inscription ‘Ja-vier Novillo-Astrada Memorial’ in tribute to the late polo pla-yer. Mora-Figueroa wanted to make a heartfelt tribute to No-villo-Astrada at the awards ce-remony, highlighting his great personal and professional qua-lities, as well as the strength he used in his fight against cancer.

The President of the Club highlighted Novillo-Astrada’s connection to Sotogrande, whi-ch comes from his father Talio from the 60s. Mora-Figueroa re-called that he played with San-ta Maria when he left Argenti-na for the first time, at the start of the 90s, to participate in a tournament. He also highlig-

hted Novillo-Astrada’s “gentle-manly manner, his masculinity and common sense” and is an example for others to follow in the world of polo. Because of all these values that Javier em-bodied, the Santa Maria Club wanted to name the best pla-yer of the Gold Cup trophy af-ter him. And what a fantastic debut for the Novillo-Astrada trophy, which was awarded to Cambiaso, who many consider to be the best player in the his-tory of polo.

Best horseThis was followed, during

the ceremony, by the award for best horse, which went to ’One Magnífica’, owned by Facundo Pieres of the Ellerston team. To present the award was the Con-sul of Argentina in Cádiz, Agus-tín Núñez.

This ended what has been a historic season. The 43rd Land Rover International Tour-nament will be remembered for the fantastic season by Va-liente, the presence of five of the world’s best players (Adol-fo Cambiaso, Gonzalo and Fa-cundo Pieres, Juan Martín Nero and David Stirling), the record number of teams taking part, the quality of the matches at all levels and the phenomenal organisation that, once again, has focussed the polo world’s attention on the Santa Maria Polo Club in August.

y. o. / sotogrande.- Luis Estra-da, vice-president of the Santa Maria Polo Club, stated, shor-tly after the awards ceremony, that the conclusion of the 43rd Edition of the Land Rover Po-lo Tournament could not ha-ve been better. “I believe that we witnessed something that we haven’t seen in the last few years. It was a very competi-tive match and we have enjo-yed a spectacular level of po-lo with the best players in the world right until the end. We couldn’t be happier”, stated Es-

trada. The vice-president added that the final that had just been played, had been one of the best finals to take place at the club. “I believe that the level of polo we are currently enjoying at the Santa Maria Club is the best in Europe. Perhaps its at the same standard as the Gold Cup in En-gland, and that is the very top in European polo, therefore we are at the highest level”, added the club’s manager. Estrada al-so said that everything had worked out as planned, and al-though there are always things

to improve on, he stated that the final outcome was very go-od, and that it has encouraged them to adopt new things for next year. “We have to improve, do new things, and every year we are nothing but surprised by the content and the innovations of this tournament, which is not just a sporting but also a social and cultural event”, said the vi-ce-president. Lastly, he announ-ced that amongst the various plans for the club, a medium handicap season is also to be organised in June 2015.

M. / sotogrande.- The Spa-nish actor Jordi Mollá, am-bassador for the Save the Children-Bulgari project, and Princess Beatrice of Orleans, honorary patron of the tour-nament, presented the Bul-gari Gold Cup on the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club. Beatrice of Orleans, in an in-terview with this newspaper, praised the high level of the final played between Valiente and Ellerston. “To tell you the truth, it has been a very ex-citing final. The horses of bo-th teams are both impressive and very beautiful. It has been a very clean and very open game. Valiente and Ellerston are two fantastic teams. There hasn’t been any problems or any cheating throughout the match. I haven’t seen a final as exciting as this in years”, said the Princess.

Beatrice of Orleans said that it is a “great honour” for her to be patron of a tourna-ment like this every year, with such high standards like tho-se that have been on display throughout the season on the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande. “Polo is a magnificent sport and the good thing is that every year it keeps growing. I remember its first year; it was a really sma-ll tournament and every year it keeps growing further. The Santa Maria Polo Club tour-nament is already well known throughout Europe and the polo of Sotogrande is alrea-dy recognised at the highe-st international level. There’s a fantastic team of people that work as hard as possible every season. They also have very important human values. I am sure that all this will en-sure it continues to grow fur-ther. I am going to really en-joy the Polo in France. I was in Italy two months ago. And to tell you the truth, from what I’ve seen today, nothing can compare to it”, she said.

The Princess took advanta-ge of the last few days to relax with her family in Sotogrande,

a destination she described as “wonderful”. “I’ve known about it for many years. It is a place where you can really enjoy the summertime. In So-togrande, everything is well maintained and clean. You never have any problems. And as such it will keep growing every year. I would just like to congratulate the Santa Maria Polo Club and Sotogrande for this spectacular 43rd Land Rover International Polo Tour-nament and for having given us the best final of the Bul-gari Gold Cup that we could have only dreamed of”, said the Princess.

Bulgari AmbassadorThe actor Jordi Mollá, for

his part, explained that Bul-gari Spain asked him to be their ambassador for the Save the Children project, and that, once they agreed to approach it with art and creativity, he

found it pretty easy to say yes. “We are going to start going to Spanish schools with this project, which has as its slo-gan ‘Art Heals’. We want chil-dren to be what they want to be, and through painting they can capture it”, stated Mollá, who has recently demonstra-ted his talents as a painter with exhibitions in Marbella and Ibiza. “I am a supermar-ket, an actor who paints and a restless person who likes to create”, stated the actor, who shortly will be heading to London to start filming for his new film ‘Criminal’ in which he co-stars along with Gary Oldman, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and Ryan Reynolds.

l. v. / SOTOGRANDE.- Equus was crowned champions of the medium handicap Casablan-ca Gold Cup after beating FCT by 15-8 in the final of the 43rd Land Rover International Tour-nament organised by the San-ta Maria Polo Club. The Ger-man team, who are also cham-pions of the Silver Cup, lifted the most important trophy and took the title of the best team of the summer season in Soto-grande.

The team comprising of Pe-ter Silling, Juan Britos, James Beim and Hugo Lewis demons-trated their equestrian and polo talents in the grand final, and successfully defending their 2013 title.

Equus has become one of the elite teams to take the Gold

Cup for the second year in a row at the Santa Maria Polo Club. Another team who defended their title was Mahra Esperan-za, winning the medium handi-cap Subsidiary Cup after bea-ting Lebeau Courally in the fi-nal by 16-9. Mahra Esperanza also won

the Subsidiary in the Silver Cup, and again in the Gold Cup with another great performan-ce from the quartet, comprising of Rashid Al Habtoor (substitu-ted by Sophie Stanek), Kevin Korst, Patricio Neves and Gui-lermo Cuitiño. Huntsman, meanwhile, roun-ded off a perfect tournament as

champions of the low handicap Gold Cup. The quartet compri-sing of Aristide Faggionato, Di-llon Bacon, Felipe Gómez and Iván Maldonado took the Triple Crown in the Sotogrande Po-lo season. By taking the Bronze, Silver and Gold Cups, this fantastic team have proved to be unbea-

table in the low handicap cate-gory in the 43rd Land Rover In-ternational Polo Tournament in Santa Maria. The team finished their fantastic season by win-ning the grand final of the Gold Cup by 11-9 against Serdaño-la. The low handicap Subsidia-ry Cup went to the Kazak Sha-kib team.

The German team secured their second trophy this year in Sotogrande.

El equipo alemán, campeón también de la Copa de Plata, levantó el trofeo más im-portante y se proclamó como el mejor equipo de la temporada de verano en Sotogrande.

La formación que integran Peter Silling, Juan Britos, Ja-

mes Beim y Hugo Lewis mostró todo su poderío, equino y polís-tico, en la gran final y defendió con éxito la corona que ya ha-bía alcanzado en el año 2013.

Equus se transforma en uno de los selectos equipos que le-vanta por segundo año conse-cutivo la Copa de Oro en Santa María Polo Club.

Otro equipo que repitió títu-

lo fue Mahra Esperanza, que se consagró campeón de la Copa Subsidiaria de mediano handi-cap tras vencer a Lebeau Coura-lly en la final por 16 a 9.

Mahra Esperanza también ganó la Subsidiaria en la Copa de Plata y repitió en la Copa de Oro con otra gran actuación del cuarteto que integran Rashid Al Habtoor (lo sustituyó Sophie

La fiesta que comenzó en la can-cha principal del Santa María Polo Club con la consecución de la Copa de Oro Bulgari por par-

te de Valiente, continuó horas más tarde en el After Polo Sotogrande, que cerró su temporada con una gran fiesta pro-tagonizada por el dj Carlos Jean. Esta última cita concentró el mejor ambiente de Sotogrande y puso el punto y final al 43 Torneo Internacional Land Rover de Polo. Una vez clausurada la entrecan-cha III-IV y su Polo Shopping Village, y mientras el Restaurante Palenque ser-vía sus últimas cenas de la temporada, la Closing Party 2014 de After Polo con-taba con Carlos Jean como invitado de excepción.

Junto al equipo de Valiente, de triun-fante celebración, residentes, clien-tes habituales y veraneantes apuraron las últimas horas antes de la vuelta a casa, y bailaron al mejor ritmo de Car-los Jean. También asistió el masterchef Pepe Rodríguez, que disfrutó de la final de la Copa de Oro y ejerció de anfitrión en la última velada de Restaurante Pa-lenque. También estuvo la cantante y modelo Brisa Fenoy, protagonista de la última campaña de Turismo Andaluz, patrocinador del Torneo.

Por las canchas del Santa María Polo Club, también pasaron, en las horas previas a la final, personajes de la vida social española como Paloma Segrelles, Patricia Rato o Ignacio de Marichalar. Segrelles, que manifestó estar de vaca-ciones con sus padres y sus dos hijas, se declaró una enamorada del polo, y alabó las instalaciones del club.

Ya en la tarde de la final, se dejaron ver la bloguera y modelo María León y Fernando Martínez de Irujo, hijo de la Duquesa de Alba. Ambos disfrutaron, junto al público que llenó la cancha, de una jornada de polo que gozó de un gran ambiente. La expectación de la fi-nal, que enfrentaba a Ellerston y Valien-te; la presencia sobre el campo de los mejores jugadores del mundo; y la posi-bilidad, como finalmente fue, de que el equipo del norteamericano Bob Jorna-yvaz se hiciera con la triple corona; se presentaban como elementos más que suficientes para atraer al público, que llenó el graderío y las zonas aledañas.

Las colas en la taquilla, en los mi-nutos previos al partido, ya anunciaban un lleno absoluto en la cancha. Una vez iniciado el partido, los chicos de Ellers-ton parecían ser los favoritos entre los aficionados, pero Valiente trajo también una hinchada muy entregada que se ha-cía notar en cada gol de su equipo. El fuerte calor que acompañó al público durante los seis chukkers no supuso un obstáculo para ninguno de los asisten-tes que, pese a la elevada temperatura que se registró durante la tarde, siguió con emoción el desarrollo de un partido que estuvo muy igualado hasta los mo-mentos finales.

La recaudación en taquilla de los

últimos días, que alcanzó los 21.000 euros, se destinó al Centro de Hipotera-pia del Santa María Polo Club, que du-rante la temporada también ha recibi-do fondos procedentes de la entrada de dos conciertos de música celebrados en el After Polo de Sotogrande.

Un público de lujo, sin duda, que ha

respondido a la decena de fiestas que han tenido lugar en la zona de ocio y copas del club, y que este año ha goza-do de una remozada zona de compras y nuevas instalaciones. De hecho, tras la final y la entrega de premios, el Sho-pping Village fue otro de los puntos más concurridos. Algunas de las tiendas

que durante todo este mes han ofrecido sus artículos, ya mostraban algunos de ellos a precios rebajados para animar a la compra.

venta durante la celebración del 43 Tor-neo Land Rover de Polo. Todo esto ocu-rría en la entrecancha, y en las tiendas del interior, el ir y venir de gente pare-cía más intenso que nunca. Algunos de los establecimientos que se instalaron al inicio de la temporada, empezaban a embalar artículos y a retirar parte de

la estructura, la cartelería o la ilumina-ción. Han sido días muy intensos y el club y toda su zona de ocio, comercio y restauración han permanecido abiertos durante 36 días para facilitar y propi-ciar un mejor ambiente al torneo. A la salida del club, apenas dos horas des-pués de la final, el sentimiento de des-

pedida ya estaba muy presente. Las úl-timas cenas en Palenque; las últimas fotos delante del Jaguar que ha perma-necido aparcado a la entrada del Santa María Polo Club durante todo el mes; y la satisfacción de quienes salían en busca de su coche, alabando las insta-laciones o el gran partido de polo que

se había disputado por la tarde. Así, con ese ir y venir de gente, se

despidió, un año más, el Torneo Inter-nacional Land Rover de Polo. La orga-nización empieza a trabajar ya para ofrecer, en 2015, el mejor espectáculo y servicio tanto fuera como dentro de las canchas del club.

The celebrations, that began fo-llowing Valiente’s win of the Bulgari Gold Cup on the main fields of the Santa Maria Polo,

continued on for many hours at the So-togrande After Polo, and a fantastic par-ty starring DJ Carlos Jean finished off the season. This final event was the fo-cal point of the fantastic atmosphere in Sotogrande, and rounded off the 43rd International Land Rover Polo Tourna-ment. Once the entrecancha 111-1V and the Polo Shopping village had closed, and whilst the Palenque Restaurant was serving its final dishes of the sea-son, the 2014 After Polo Closing Party got underway with its VIP guest, Carlos Jean, attending.

Along with the Valiente team, fresh from their triumphant victory, resi-dents, regular customers and holiday-makers made the most out of the last few hours before they retuned home, dancing to the wonderful music from Carlos Jean. The master chef, Pepe Ro-dríguez, who also attended, enjoyed the final of the Gold Cup and hosted the fi-nal evening at the Palenque Restaurant. The singer and model Brisa Fenoy, the protagonist behind the latest campaign from Turismo Andaluz, a sponsor of the tournament, also attended.

On the fields of the Santa Maria Polo Club, personalities from Spain’s public life, like Paloma Segrelles, Patricia Rato and Ignacio de Marichalar were also seen early on before the final. Segrelles, who was on holiday with her parents and two daughters, stated that she was in love with polo, and commended the club on its facilities.

In the afternoon of the final, the blo-gger and model María León and Fernan-do Martínez de Irujo, son of the Duche-ss of Alba were also seen. Both enjoyed a day at the polo and its fantastic at-mosphere, along with members of the public, who filled the fields. The antici-pation of the final, which pitted Ellers-ton against Valiente, the presence of the best polo players in the world on the field, and the possibility that the team from American Bob Jornayvaz would walk away with the triple crown, whi-ch ultimately happened, was more than enough to lure in audiences, filling the stands and the surrounding areas.

Although there were queues at the ticket windows, in the minutes prior to the match, it was announced that the field was full to capacity. Once the mat-ch got underway, the Ellerston boys see-med to be the favourites among suppor-

ters, but Valiente also brought their own dedicated fans who cheered at every goal scored by their team.

The intense heat beating down on the public throughout the six chukkas did not put any of the supporters off, and despite the high temperature recor-ded during the afternoon, the spectators were full of excitement as the match de-veloped, and remaining a draw until the final moments. The ticket windows have

taken more than 21,000 euros in the last few days, and this money is destined for the Hippotherary Centre of the Santa Maria Polo Club, which during the sea-son, has also received funding from the entrance fees levied at two music con-certs held at the Sotogrande After Polo venue. The fantastic audiences have un-doubtedly responded well to the dozen or so parties that have taken place in the entertainment and bar area, whi-

ch this year has benefited from a reno-vated shopping area and new facilities. In fact, after the final and the awards ceremony, the Shopping Village was one of the busiest areas. Some of the shops that have been open for the enti-re month, were offering discount prices on their products to encourage sales. It was the final opportunity to buy confec-tionary, clothing, shoes, jewellery and decorations, which have been on sale

SOTOGRANDE.- El Bribón-Mo-vistar de Marc de Antonio se colocó como primer líder de la octava edición de la Copa de España de J80 Trocadero Soto-grande, tras ganar dos de las tres primeras pruebas disputa-das en aguas de Sotogrande en el primer día de regatas. La jor-nada inaugural estuvo marcada por vientos de poniente que se movieron entre los 11 y los 16 nudos de intensidad.

El otro tanto del día, el pri-mero, se lo adjudicó el monoti-po Herbalife, de los armadores Pepequín Orbaneja y Juan Luis Páez, que terminó segundo en la general provisional con dos puntos más, sumando al prime-ro un cuarto y un segundo en las otras dos pruebas.

Le siguió a una distancia de seis puntos el barco procedente de Puerto Banús Da Bruno, que por una lesión de su patrón ha-bitual, Iñaki Castañer, condu-jo Ricardo Zabell, acreedor de dos segundos y un noveno. A las puertas de podio con sólo un punto más, el Puerto Sherry II-Oxital compartiendo bandera

cántabra y andaluza, patronea-do por Jesús González-Amalia-ch, que se estrenó con dos cuar-tos y un sexto. Por detrás tres barcos que se metieron en la pelea con mayor o menor suer-te: el PAS Team de Caine Federi-co con Nacho Alcina a los man-dos, que quedó quinto; el Puerto Sotogrande de Pablo Villar, y el Puerto Sherry de Dionisio Mar-tínez y Julia Vallo en el séptimo puesto.

Así quedó la clasificación en una emocionante primera jor-nada en la que se puso de ma-nifiesto que la lucha por la copa nacional no va a ser fácil entre un grupo de barcos que se mos-traron muy iguales en la bús-queda de objetivos, y otros que esperan el mínimo fallo para colarse.

La primera prueba del día de esta copa J/80 se inició con el dominio del barco de Dioni Martínez Puerto Sherry I, con la joven Julia Vallo a los man-

dos, que perdió la regata en la última popa al ser adelantado por Herbalife, Da Bruno, Bri-bón-Movistar y Puerto Sherry II-Oxital. En la segunda manga, un fuera de línea dejó a los de Vallo y Martínez fuera de jue-

go, en una prueba que ganó el Bribón-Movistar, seguido del Da Bruno, el Puerto Sotogrande, Herbalife y PAS Team en quin-to lugar. La tercera prueba de nuevo la popa dio al traste con los intereses del Puerto Sherry-

Inútil Team, que otra vez volvió a dominar en los inicios hasta verse superado, por este orden, por el Bribón-Movistar y Her-balife.

Por tanto, la primera jorna-da de regatas de la Copa de Es-paña J80 Trocadero Sotogrande dejó como claro favorito para alzarse con el primer puesto en la competición al barco Bribón Movistar, liderado por Marc de Antonio.

Este monotipo forma parte de la veintena de tripulaciones que disputan esta copa de Espa-ña en aguas de Sotogrande bajo la organización del Club Náu-tico Bevelle, Puerto Sotogrande y la Real Federación Española de Vea (RFEV), con la colabora-ción de la Federación Andaluza de Vela, el Ayuntamiento de San Roque y la Asociación de pro-pietarios de la clase J80.

La prueba supone el estreno a nivel nacional de los organiza-dores, pues es la primera vez que se celebra una cita de estas características en aguas de Sotogrande. Esta confianza viene avalada por la capacidad del club Naútico Bevelle, que cerró el pasado año el II Circuito NH Resort y comenzará en octubre su tercera edición. La flota local, que supera la media docena de barcos, sus tripulaciones, y las instalaciones preparadas para esta copa están propiciando una gran competición que cuenta con la participación de equipos de otras comunidades, con barcos procedentes de las flotas de Santander, Cataluña o Baleares. Los anfitriones tienen a su favor el mejor conocimiento del medio.

SOTOGRANDE.- La tempora-da de playas en el municipio de San Roque concluirá mañana domingo, siete de septiembre, después de que fuese ampliada una semana más por decisión del equipo de gobierno. Aunque la próxima semana se ofrece-rá una valoración definitiva del trabajo realizado en los meses de verano, Juan Manuel Ordo-ñez, concejal de Seguridad Ciu-dadana, destacó que el balance provisional es muy satisfacto-rio. El servicio de socorrismo lo ha proporcionado, un año más, la Agrupación Local de Protec-ción Civil, con un total de 82 voluntarios entre socorristas, enfermeros y coordinadores de playas. Además, el buen tiempo y la gran afluencia de bañistas a las playas sanroqueñas moti-vó que se adelantara el comien-zo de la temporada de playas a finales de junio, aunque inicial-mente estuviera previsto para el uno de julio. El dispositivo

de socorrismo y salvamento or-ganizado por Protección Civil de San Roque ha contado con los siguientes medios humanos y técnicos: 60 socorristas, a los que se unen ocho jefes de pla-ya; 14 enfermeros; ocho tornos de rescate (aparatos para sacar a los bañistas del agua cuando las corrientes lo ponen difícil); tres embarcaciones; tres ambu-lancias; dos kayaks; un todote-rreno; y un servicio de vigilan-tes de Medio Ambiente.

El responsable de Seguri-dad Ciudadana concluyó aña-diendo que el servicio de lim-pieza se ha reforzado este año dotando al personal de mejor material y aumentando el nú-mero de trabajadores que ha contratado Emadesa. Un gru-po importante de esos 61 tra-bajadores se ha encargado de esta labor desde las seis de la mañana hasta la una de la tar-de. Las playas cuentan con mó-dulos de salvamento y duchas, pasarelas sobre la arena y ca-rriles de acceso a las playas.

El dispositivo de vigilancia ha contado con una plantilla de 60 socorristas,

San Roque, sede del campeonato nacional de fútbol chapasL.V. / sOTOgrande.- El hotel Suites San Roque Club será sede en noviembre del cam-peonato nacional de fútbol chapas. La competición tie-ne prevista la asistencia de unas 250 personas entre ju-gadores y acompañantes. La fecha prevista para su cele-bración son los días 22 y 23 de noviembre.

La organización ha infor-mado que habrá dos com-peticiones; por una parte, el campeonato individual en el que participarán los 64 me-jores jugadores del territo-rio español, elegidos según el criterio de cada sede y en función de las plazas asig-nadas a cada club. Y por otro lado, se jugará el campeona-to por equipos en el que está previsto que participen doce sedes y cada una de ellas es-tarán representadas por cin-co jugadores. La directiva del club de fútbol chapas de San Roque espera continuar con su racha y meterse por tercer año consecutivo en la gran fi-nal. De hecho, sabe que son una de las grandes favoritas a la victoria final.

SOTOGRANDE.- Trabajadores de Emadesa están acometiendo una obra de ampliación de 28 nichos en el cementerio del Va-lle del Guadiaro. Los tenientes de alcalde de Emadesa y Obras y Servicios, José Vera, y del Va-lle del Guadiaro, Juan Roca, inspeccionaron los trabajos. Ambos quisieron comprobar in situ estos nuevos nichos, muy necesarios en el camposanto debido a que la cantidad actual es insuficiente para hacer fren-te a la demanda que tiene el Va-lle del Guadiaro. “Tenemos te-rrenos previstos para ampliar

a 24 más -aclaró José Vera- por lo tanto creo que estamos dan-do una respuesta, desde la de-legación, a la demanda de los ciudadanos del Valle del Gua-diaro, con lo que no tendremos que plantearnos ninguna am-pliación de este cementerio a corto y medio plazo, pudien-do aguantar estas instalaciones unos años más”.

El edil quiso recordar, ade-más, que hace poco han ter-minado una nueva fase de 36 nichos en el cementerio de la Bahía (Puente Mayorga, Campa-mento y Guadarranque) y que tienen previsto acometer esta misma tarea en la Estación de

San Roque, ya que es el cemen-terio que, en la actualidad, po-dría tener más problemas de

espacio en el futuro, señaló el responsable de Emadesa.

Por su parte, el teniente de alcalde del Valle del Guadiaro, Juan Roca, manifestó que hace

algo más de un año que los téc-nicos detectaron que había po-cos nichos, y que por esta razón se están realizando las amplia-ciones en diferentes localidades del municipio.

El concejal aclaró que algu-nos están terminados y cuan-do se haga lo propio en el Valle del Guadiaro, se empezará en la Estación, zona donde también existe demanda de nuevas uni-dades en su camposanto.

De este modo cumplirán con el plan previsto por los respon-sables de la gestión y manteni-miento de los cementerios que hay repartidos por el municipio de San Roque.

demanda que los técnicos de la delegación detectaron hace ya más de un año

Un total de quince filmes proce-dentes de Alemania, Austria, Francia, Italia, Canadá y Es-paña se han visto esta semana

en la sección a concurso de la III Mues-tra de Cine Super 8/16 milímetros, cele-brada en la sala Quimera, en el Palacio de los Gobernadores de San Roque.

Este año, el público, aunque no muy numeroso como suele ocurrir en este tipo de muestras tan especializadas, ha sido el encargado de valorar las cintas presentadas. La entrega de premios a los filmes ganadores pondrá, en la no-che del sábado 6 de septiembre, el pun-to y final a una nuestra que fue inaugu-rada con la proyección en formato Super 8 de King Kong, de 1933.

King Kong, el nombre de un gigan-tesco gorila ficticio que habita en la Isla Calavera, ha sido protagonista de varias películas desde que el cine es cine; y la de 1933 es, además, una de las primeras y más famosas películas de monstruos. El filme es recordado por sus pione-ros efectos especiales usando la técnica stop-motion, por sus animatronics y su historia de la bella y la bestia.

En la película original de 1933 el protagonista es Carl Dehnam, un direc-tor de cine inquieto y audaz que planea hacer un peligroso viaje hacia una isla de la cual sólo él sabe cómo llegar. Su objetivo: filmar a una leyenda llamada Kong, un temible monstruo que se ena-mora de una hermosa mujer.

Tras la proyección de este clásico, la segunda jornada prosiguió con una retrospectiva compuesta por películas como Bajamar (1993), rodada en Cádiz en Super 8 y en color por Antonio Sán-chez y Marcelino Arriaza; Acantilado (1996), de los mismos autores; y Viaje a Eurythmides (1990), rodada en Super 8 en Córdoba por Miguel Éngel Entrenas. En la sección Documentos encontrados se proyectó Lament (2013), montada a mano el pasado año en Canadá con ma-terial de archivo.

Ya en los días de competición se pro-yectaron Ex votos, de Austria y de 3 mi-nutos; Afrodisíaco, española de 9 mi-nutos; Fron, alemana de 10 minutos; Drink, alemana de 47 segundos; What time is it?, alemana de 1,07 minutos; Naturblicke, alemana de 3,44 minutos; Sexy 8, austríaca de 3 minutos; Latitude 45º 35’ North, francesa de 2,20 minutos; y Cohetá 2014 Tolox, española de 4 mi-nutos, todas en Super 8.

Ampliación de formato La jornada del jueves se dedicó a la

proyección de las películas hechas en 16 milímetros, un formato que ha sido añadido este año a la muestra de cine sanroqueña. Los espectadores pudieron ver The fever of the western Nile, cana-diense de 9 minutos en blanco y negro; y Defile in Veil, también canadiense de 9 minutos en blanco y negro. En Super 8 se proyectaron Bienaventurado borra-cho, española de 7 minutos en blanco y negro; Intrusi, película italiana en co-lor de 10 minutos; Nº 13, sahariana de 3 minutos en blanco y negro; y Perpe-tuum inmobile, española de 4 minutos en blanco y negro. En cada una de las sesiones, el público, tras completar las proyecciones, emitía su voto.

En Super 8 habrán un primer pre-mio compuesto por 10 cartuchos de fil-mación Super 8 y trofeo; un segundo premio, que concede la empresa Kinova consistente en telecinado de un corto de Super 8 y trofeo; y un tercer premio que otorga Hotel Holliday Inn, que incluye un fin de semana en cualquier hotel de la Península Ibérica (España y Portugal) para dos personas en régimen de aloja-miento y desayuno.

Para la sección de 16 milímetros hay previsto un primer premio, cuyo gana-dor se hará con dos latas de 122 metros de filmación de 16 milímetros; un se-gundo premio, que concede la empre-sa Kinova consistente en telecinado de un corto de 16 milímetros y trofeo; y un tercer premio, que también está patroci-nado por Hotel Holliday Inn, consisten-te en un fin de semana en Bilbao para dos personas.

La organización informó que una selección de los cortometrajes premia-dos serán proyectados en el Cinemató-grafo Municipal Quimera, en el Palacio de los Gobernadores, y podrán ser pre-sentados por sus autores si así lo esti-man oportuno. De esta manera, quienes no hayan asistido a la muestra tendrán una nueva oportunidad de ver el mejor cine en Super 8 y 16 milímetros que este año ha ido a concurso.

A total of fifteen films from Ger-many, Austria, France, Italy, Ca-nada and Spain have been on show this week in the several

competition categories of the 3rd Super 8/16 mm cinema exhibition, held at the Quimera cinema of the Governor’s Pala-ce (Palacio de los Gobernadores) in San Roque. This year, members of the pubic, although few in numbers, which is very common at this type of specialised ex-hibition, will assess the submitted fil-ms. The presentation of the awards to the winning films, on the evening of the 6th September, will mark the end of the exhibition, which began with the scree-ning of the 1933 Super 8 version of King Kong.

King Kong, the name of the fictio-nal giant gorilla who lives on Skull Is-land, has been featured in many films since the birth of cinema; and this ver-sion from 1933, is also one of the ear-liest and most famous monster movies. The film is remembered for its pionee-ring special effects, like stop-motion techniques, its animatronics and its Beauty and the Beast story.

In the original film from 1933, the main protagonist is Carl Denham, an ambitious and daring filmmaker who plans to make a perilous journey to an island that only he knows how to get to. His goal: to film the legendary creatu-re called Kong, a fearsome monster who falls in love with a beautiful woman.

After the screening of this clas-sic film, the second day continued with a retrospective, consisting of films like Bajamar (1993), shot in Cadiz on Super 8mm in colour by Antonio Sánchez and

Marcelino Arriaza: Acantilado (1996) by the same directors; and Viaje a Eur-thmides (1999), filmed on Super mm in Cordoba by Miguel Éngel Entrenas. The film Lament (2013), which was as-sembled by hand last year in Canada from archive footage, was shown in the Found Documents category. Several Su-

per 8 films were also screened throug-hout the competition: Ex Votos, Austria, 3 minutes; Afrodisíaco, Spain, 9 minu-tes; Fron, Germany, 10 minutes; Drink, Germany, 47 seconds; What time is it? Germany, 1.07 minutes; Naturblicke, Germany, 3.44 minutes; Sexy 8, Austria, 3 minutes; Latitude 45º 35’ North, Fren-

ch, 2.20 minutes; and Cohetá 2014 To-lox, Spain, 4 minutes.

Thursday’s session was devoted to screening 16mm films, a format that has been added to the San Roque cine-ma exhibition this year. Film audiences were able to see several films including: The fever of the western Nile, Canada, 9 minutes, black and white; and Defi-le in Veil, also from Canada, 9 minutes, black and white. In the Super 8 format, numerous other films were shown, like Bienaventurado borracho, Spain, 7 mi-nutes, black and white; Intrusi, Italy, 10 minutes, in colour; Nº 13, Saharan Africa, 3 minutes, black and white; and Perpetuum inmobile, Spain, 4 minutes, black and white. In each session, mem-bers of the public cast their votes.

In the Super 8 category, the first pla-ce prize will be 10 Super 8 film cartrid-ges and a trophy, second place prize, provided by the company Kinova, will consist of a Super 8 short film teleci-ne and a trophy; and third place prize, awarded by the Holiday Inn Hotel, will be a weekend stay at any one of their hotels located in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) for two people bed and breakfast. For the 16 mm category, first place prize will be two cans of 122 meters of 16 mm film, second prize, pro-vided by the company Kinova, will be a 16mm telecine and a trophy, and third place prize, also awarded by the Holi-day Inn Hotel, will be a weekend away in Bilbao for two people.

The organisation reported that a se-lection of the award-winning short fil-ms will be shown at the Quimera Muni-cipal Cinema at the Governor’s Palace.
