SCAMP
Sonoma County Agriculture MarketingPlan
by Dan Benedetti
SCAMP was founded by the SonomaCounty Board of Supervisors. itbegan with $25,000 and the task tofind out what, how and where SonomaCounty agricultural products may besold.
»
The competition is very strong. Our citizens currently enjoyNorwegian Salmon, Washington Apples, cheese, wine, meats, herbs and otherproducts from other areas. Many ofthese products are produced inSonoma County, but are not marketed.SCAMP wants to give the consumer achoice.
You may see food items with theSonoma County Select seal on them.Items bearing the seal are fromSonoma County, which is a simple wayof telling you what you're buying. Many of the major supermarkets usetheir clout to procure items at verylow prices. SCAMP wants consumersto request items bearing the SonomaSelect Seal.
Winerys, farmers, distributorsand other companies involved in foodproduction and or distribution havedonated funds to the SCAMP program. They believe we have a uniqueproduct and people should beeducated to appreciate it.
President Kent presented Danthe customary bottle of SonomaCounty food (wine).
Did you read your Rotarian?
This year the RI conventionwill be held in Portland, OR for thesecond time. When was the first
time? How many people were inattendance?
How does, thin skinned, RichardL. Rhoda, esq. respond to an unkindjoke told about attorneies during aHoulton, Maine Rotary meeting?
What is Andrew M. Hall talkingabout when he states, "On certaindays, I'd love to find the Scotsmanwho invented and choke him."?
Dr. Guinter Kahn discovered a
remedy for a condition in the fore
front of many men. However, thepreparation didn't help him. Whatcondition did his discovery improve?
$$$JACKPOT$$$
Tom Eakin won a chance to reach
in the sack, but could not come outwith the black. Dan Benedetti drew
two numbers out of the hat, onebeing Tom's the other his. Hepocketed the $10. The pot nowstands at $240. A marble count
reveals only 19. Wouldn't it bekeen to reach in the sack and find
the black and be the one who won?
WORLD UNDERSTANDING
February is World UnderstandingMonth. It reminds us of our duty toseek understanding of ourinternational neighbors. A genuineinterest in other cultures leads to
understanding, respect andfriendship.
Rotary offers us many uniqueopportunities to learn about othercultures. Our club is sponsoringAriane Dukers from Belgium and Mr.Rajiv Sharma will be visiting fromIndia. A visit with either personwill give us a better understandingof the person and their culture.
If you are fortunate enough totravel, the opportunities multiplythrough Rotary. Attendance at aforeign Rotary club has beenreported to be a very specialexperience.
World understanding will leadto world peace.

Photo Journal of the Earthquakeby Tim Baker
Tim Baker was at Candlestick to
record the World Series when the
earth shook. He showed us slides he
recorded during and right after thequake.
The first thing he wasconcerned about was the overhang atCandlestick. Previously it wassupported and he was sure it wouldcome down. It didn't. The picturesshowed a mass of people looking withhorror at the overhang, all with thesame thought. The first people toleave were in a cheerful mood. Theyleft to be safe; but, just to be
sure, they had their hands stampedso they could return. The power andcommunication with the crowd went
out immediately. Finally, policecars were driven on to the infield
and police communicated with thespectators through the auto bullhorns.
A picture of the north horizonfrom the top of Candlestick revealedan ominous flume of smoke rising outof the Marina District. He later
discovered fireballs of devastation
were the source.
Bazaar scenes were everywhere.Several slides of buildings damagedin one way or another. Some asimple crack, others with the secondor third floor resting at streetlevel. The next day brought scenesof residents coming home toshattered lives. Every one waslooking for survivors in the rubble. No one knew where to look, so theysearched where they heard life. Thelucky(?) had 15 minutes to go in togather the importance of their pastlives. The unlucky had nothing toreturn to or for.
Pictures of soil liquificationwere piles of black mud. Theyspurted up through cracks likelittle volcanos erupting.
Some pictures showed a little, some a lot, but damage waseverywhere. He was particularlyimpressed with one lady who felt
very lucky because someone found hercat alive and well; she had losteverything else. He stated he wouldlike to do more with this lady(there may have been a romanticglint in his eye). President Kentpresented the customary bottle ofwine and suggested he might share itwith the lady and her cat.
$$$JACKP0T$$$
Buster Daulton couldn't draw
the black out of his own sack. Bob
Dunn took the $10. The sack now has
19 marbles in it, 18 are clear andone is black. The cost of tickets
are the same even though your chanceto win improves each week.
Volleyball
practice at Steel Lane School Multi
purpose room is at 5:30 pm everyThrusday. Our team is off to a good
start.
PRESIDENT'S CORNER
A sharp tongue and a dull mind areusually found in the same head.
Rotary Valentine's Dinner Dance...was all it was promised.Everyone dressed in their finest, enjoyed an evening of fun, fellowship, and romance. Pictureswere taken to record the event.
Congratulations go to Jim Knauff forarranging a fine evening.
The rumor about a nude Cellist
named Bruce actually referred to anude bass fiddle being played by aguy named Bruce.
Errors and Omissions
I've certainly made severalblunders in this bulletin. It was
comforting to learn of the followingexamples made in other bulletins.
"Wednesday the Ladies LiterarySociety will meet. Mrs. Johnsonwill sing 'Put Me On My Little Bed,'accompanied by the pastor."
"Thursday there will be ameeting of Mothers Club. Allwishing to become little Motherswill please meet the minister in hisstudy."
"This being Easter Sunday, wewill ask Mrs. Johnson to come
forward and lay an egg on thealter."
"The service will close with
'Little Drops of Water'; one of theladies will start quietly and therest of the congregation will joinin."
"THE LADIES OF THE CHURCH HAVE
CAST OFF CLOTHING OF EVERY KIND AND
THEY MAY BE SEEN IN THE CHURCH
BASEMENT ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON."
