When did you visit Karlovy Vary for the first time and what wereyour first impressions?

"I don’t even remember when the first time was, but I do remember thatwhen I was little, my parents made me drink from the natural springand I didn’t like it at all. But that all changed five years ago, when Ireally discovered the flavor and charm of this miraculous liquid".

"Compared to Prague, where I grew up, Karlovy Vary was very small. Soto me, it seemed a bit fairy-tale like ... as if elves lived there", he saidwith a smile.

From Ondřej’s childhood, we move straight to the present, and hetells me that his favorite place in Karlovy Vary is every pub, where hecan eat well and drink good beer. I smile, because I like his manlyCzech way of enjoying his free time.

During our conversation about Karlovy Vary, Ondřej also talkedabout the film which made the strongest impression on him at theInternational Film Festival.

"Do you know 12 Angry Men by Nikita Mikhalkov?", he asks. Since I'mnot an expert on movies, I’m quite glad that he continuesunprompted. "I know all the film and television versions of this stirringstory, plus we perform it at our theatre, so I was interested to see howMikhalkov would interpret the story and I was very pleased."

When we continue with the topic of Film Festivals, I reluctantly askOndřej how he feels at the openings, knowing that this is not hisfavorite topic.

"e International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary is pretty much the onlyevent, which I will attend, if I have the opportunity. But you won’t oftensee me at other events where I could be captured by the lenses of the hyena-like tabloid photographers. I prefer peace and quiet in a pub with myfriends. Far from red carpets."

at was the answer that I expected from him and while we were onthe subject of film festivals, acting and fame, I could not overlook mynext question:

How does it feel to pursue a similar line of work to your parents?

"Well that's just it", he sighs......and I feel that I have made him a bituncomfortable with this question, because his soul has always beenmore into music than acting.

"I'm acting just for fun. My main profession and passion is music. So, ifmy father was a composer and my mom a singer, I would have a betteranswer for you”.

I often admired Ondřej, especially for his approach to show business.It's like he always knows where to appear and where to avoid. So mynext question is how he can decide these things?

"My dad always said, 'Do everything in a way that ensures you can sleepwell at night. is is what I do. So it suits me.”

I feel that it would be better to leave the issue of his parents alone.Ondřej's father passed away within the last year and I can not evenimagine how hard it must have been for him to deal with.

"I read somewhere that money is not your motivator." I’m turningthe page quickly. "Do you still feel the same, or does a personreconsider some things with age?"

"I would be dishonest, if I said that money is not a part of mymotivation", he waves his hand and I’m amused by his sincerity. "Sure,sometimes it motivates me, but the truth is that I don’t have an excessivelystrong relationship to money. I know that I need it to survive, but not tolive. ank God I have a job that makes me a relatively decent livingand although I'm not a millionaire, I'm happy and that's the mostimportant thing to me."

I quietly admire his healthy approach to life, and I am curious whathe is working on right now.

"Currently I am working on new songs, with the guys from my band. Iwould like to mainly play concerts now. I miss that. e interaction

between the audience and the musicians is hard to leave behind. But, ifyou want to have fun, come to our theatre to see e Bouncer(Vyhazovači), or a play called e Ballroom (Tančírna). And if you wantto see a real Broadway musical and not a Prague “song-play”, come toKarlin to see ‘e Curtains’.

"God, you do so many things!" I almost scream at him before he caneven end his sentence.

"Well, that's true", he acknowledges. "Maybe I do. I should reduce it alittle with time ... perhaps ... I hope … Maybe”, he mumbles and Isomehow feel that he will not reduce it even a bit, because his art iswhat keeps his heart beating.

Этот многоплановый актерстал частью чешскогоменталитета, что случилосьв основном из-за егопамятной ведущей роли впервом реалити-шоу"Чешский ПоискСуперзвезды". Однако, пословам Ондржея, это шоубыло небольшимотклонением от егонастоящей страсти, которойявляется музыка.

Его природный дар игратьможно отнести к активномугену, унаследованному отродителей - актрисы ХаныГрегоровой и актераРадослава Брзобогатего,который, к сожалению, впрошлом году скончался. Когда вы посетите КарловыВары в первый раз, и каковыбыли ваши первыевпечатления?

"Я даже не помню, когда впервый раз я там был, но япомню, что когда я былмаленьким, мои родителизаставили меня пить воду изприродных источников, имне вообще не понравилось.Но все изменилось пять летназад, когда я действительнооткрыл для себя вкус иочарование этой чудеснойжидкости ".

"По сравнению с Прагой,где я рос, Карловы Варыбыли очень маленькие. Такчто для меня это казалосьнемного сказочным, как ...как будто там жили эльфы",-произносит с улыбкойОндржей.

От детства Ондржейя мысразу перешли кнастоящему, и он рассказалмне, что его любимое местов Карловых Варах - это паб,почти каждый, где можнохорошо поесть и выпитьвкусного пива. Я улыбаюсь,потому что мне нравитьсяего прямой истинночешский способ првождениясвоего свободного времени.

Во время нашего разговорао Карловых Варах, Ондржейтакже вспомнил о фильме,который он смотрел намеждународномкинофестивалев КарловыхВарах, оставившем сильноевпечатление.

"Вы знаете "12разгневанных мужчин"Никиты Михалкова?", -спрашивает он. Поскольку яне специалист в областикино, то очень рада, что онспонтанно продолжает. "Язнаю все кино и телеверсииэтой непростой истории,плюс мы ставим это внашем театре, так что мнебыло интересно посмотреть,как Михалков будетинтерпретировать историю.Мне понравилось!».

Когда мы продолжили темукинофестиваля, я неохотноспросила Ондржейя как онсебя чувствует на открытии,зная, что это не самаялюбимая его тема.

"Международныйкинофестиваль в КарловыхВарах в значительнойстепени единственноесобытие, на котором я будуприсутствовать, если у менябудет возможность. Но надругих мероприятиях, гдебы меня могли захватитьтаблоидные фотографыподобно гиенам, рыщущихза своей добычей, вы меняне увидите. Я предпочитаютишину и покой с друзьями,в баре. Вдали от красныхдорожек."

Это был ответ, который яожидала. Пока мыразговаривали на темукинофестивалей, действий иславы, я не могла необратить внимание наследующий вопрос:

Каково это, проводитьаналогичную линию работы,что и ваши родители?

"Я играю просто дляудовольствия. Моя основнаяпрофессия и страсть - этомузыка. Так что, если бымой отец был композитор, имоя мама певица, я бы имеллучший ответ для вас".

Я часто восхищаюсьОндржейем, особенно за егоподход к шоу-бизнесу. Такоеощущение, что он всегдазнает, где нужно появиться,а откуда сбежать. Поэтомумне было интересно узнать,как он решает эти вещи?

"Мой папа всегда говорил:"Делай все таким образом,чтобы это гарантировалоспокойный сон по ночам.Это то, что я делаю. Так чтоменя это устраивает".

Я думаю, что было былучше оставить вопрос о егородителях в стороне. ОтецОндржейя скончался в

прошлом году, и я даже немогу себе представить, кактрудно это должно быть длянего. "Я где-то читала, чтоденьги - не вашамотивация". Я быстроперевернула страницу. "Вывсе еще чувствуете то жесамое, или же человекпересматривает некоторыевещи с возрастом?". "Я былбы нечестен, если бы сказал,что деньги не являютсячастью моей мотивации", онмашет рукой, и я удивленаего искренности. "Конечно,иногда это мотивирует меня,но правда в том, что у менянет чрезмерно сильной тягик деньгам. Я знаю, что мнеэто нужно, чтобы выжить,но не жить. Слава Богу, уменя есть работа, котораядает мне относительнодостойную жизнь и хотя яне миллионер, я счастлив, аэто самое главное для меня".

Я тихо восхищаюсь егоправильным подходом кжизни, и мне любопытно,над чем он работает прямосейчас.

"В настоящее время яработаю над новымипеснями, с ребятами из моейгруппы. Сейчас я хотел быиграть, в основном,концерты. Я скучаю по

этому. Взаимодействиемежду зрителями имузыкантами труднооставить позади. Но, есливы хотите веселья,приходите к нам в театр,чтобы увидеть Вышибалы(Vyhazovači), или пьесу подназванием Танцевальныйзал (Tančírna). И если выхотите увидеть настоящийБродвей мюзикл, а неПражскую "песню-спектакль", приходите вКарлин, чтобы увидеть"Убийство За Занавесками"

" Боже, вы делаете такмного вещей! "- я почтикрикнула, прежде чем онуспел закончить фразу.

" Ну, это правда ",- признаетон." Может быть, я делаю. Ядолжен это уменьшитьнемного со временем ...Возможно ... Я надеюсь...Может быть ", бормочет он,и я как-то чувствую, что онне будет уменьшать, потомучто искусство заставляет егосердце биться.

Lukáš studied glass processing at University in NovyBor. Following his studies, he completedinternships in France and e Netherlands, wherehe worked on the design and implementation of

artistic cut glass.

He has participated in many domestic and internationalexhibitions and his work is represented in public and privatecollections, both in the Czech Republic and abroad.

For Moser Glassworks, he has been the vision behind a largenumber of beautiful decorative objects, drinking sets andsculptures, and is also the creator of exclusive works of artswith unusual modern designs.

For many people, glass offers incredible possibilities forartistic workmanship. Why are you fascinated by thismaterial?

Glass has its own optics, that’s the amazing feature that thematerial has. When you create with wood or stone, you cannever achieve the wonderful effect of colour and lightning that

you can with glass.

I am convinced that glass has itsown soul which reflects all theefforts and aesthetics you putin. Drops of lather are asbubbles in the glass. Glass doesnot lie, because you can seeeverything in it yourself.

Your artistic talents seemto be very delicate andprecise and theyinterconnect with theglassmaking tradition andskilled craftsmanship. From

your work, it seems clear thatyou are inclined towards

modern design. How wouldyou describe your artistic style?

I like to look for new possibilities,combinations of colours, different

decors, unusual cuts, and new shapes.Every aspect of glass from the décor to the

edges has its sense and has its own story. Ilike sculptures which are grinded from a mass of

glass…..moulding them and waiting for the opticsto arise.

Many artists say that they need specific inspirations to worksuccessfully. What is your inspiration?

Generally, my biggest inspiration is nature and also architectureand shapes. ese things give me ideas for glass creations andallow me to develop these ideas into real objects. I enjoy thecombination of different cuts on the shapes that make up thesimple and complex decors and beautiful multi-coloured opticson glass.

How would you define your collection for the year 2013?

e Collection for 2013 is based on new combinations ofcoloured Moser glass, metallurgic techniques and uniqueproducts from the historical drawing books of the manufacture.Basically, we are trying to show off what Moser is about andwhat its strengths are.

для успешной работы. Что

такое вдохновение?

Вообще, мое самое

большое вдохновение

это природа, а также

архитектура и

формы. Эти вещи

дают мне идеи для

создания стекла и

позволяют мне

развить эти идеи

в реальные

объекты. Мне

нравится

сочетание

разрезов на

формах, которые

сложные декоры и

красивые

разноцветные

оптики на стекле.

коллекцию на 2013 год?

Коллекция на 2013 год

основана на новых

комбинациях цветного

стекла Moser,

металлургических технологиях и

уникальных изделиях из

исторических чертежных книг от

производителя. В принципе, мы

пытаемся показать, о чем Moser вообще и в

чем его сильные стороны.

In August 1370, CharlesIV, Holy Roman Emperorgave city privileges toKarlovy Vary, the place

that subsequently was namedafter him.

According to legend, CharlesIV was a keen hunter and oneday, while hunting around theKrušné Mountains and theSlavkov Forest, one of his dogsfell into the first of the town’sfamous springs.

Charles supposedly used waterfrom the afore-mentionedspring to successfully treat a leginjury and subsequentlyconvinced himself about the

curative power of the waters.Amazed by this, he demandedthat a town be built around themiraculous spring.

Future development of thetown led to the erection ofvarious buildings. e firstpublic spa house (e Mill Spa)was built early in the 18thcentury, along with the Baroquechurch of St. Mary Magdalene.

In the 19th century, art-nouveau started to becomeprominent, as the MillColonnade, Hot SpringColonnade, the Imperial Spaand the eatre were built.

town further increasedfollowing publications bydoctors David Becher and Josefvon Löschner. In fact, it was theBecher family which invented apotent herb liqueur which isknown today as Becherovka,one of e Czech Republic’smost famous national drinks.

By the early 20th centuryKarlovy Vary was the mostfamous spa town in Europe andboasted a booming tourism.However, both world wars

lowered the attendance figuresdramatically.

Karlovy Vary did not enjoy thatmuch freedom after the SecondWorld War, as the spa sourceswere nationalised in 1948, andthe clientele was mainlyrestricted to the citizens of theformer Soviet Bloc countries.

Western tourists started tocome back after the 1989 VelvetRevolution, which led toCzechoslovakia’s independencefrom the Soviet Union.

Since that time the number oftourists has been increasing andthere has been a steady increaseof Russian business presence inKarlovy Vary.

Karl IV. verwendete das Wasseraus der Quelle angeblich zurBehandlung seinerBeinverletzung und in der Folgeüberzeugte er sich von derheilenden Kraft des Wassers.Davon erstaunt verlangte er,dass eine Stadt rund um diewundertätige Quelle errichtetwerden solle.

Die weitere Entwicklung derStadt führte zur Errichtungverschiedenster Gebäude. Daserste öffentliche Kurhaus(Mühlenbad) wurde am Anfangdes 18. Jahrhunderts zusammenmit der Barockkirche HeiligeMaria-Magdalena gebaut.

Im 19. Jahrhundert begann derJugendstil zu dominieren. Sowurden z.B. dieMühlenkolonnade, dieSprudelkolonnade, dasKaiserbad und das eatererrichtet.

Die Popularität von Karlsbadals Kurort wurde durchVeröffentlichungen von Ärztenwie David Becher und Josef vonLöschner weiter gesteigert,hauptsächlich jedoch durch den

starken Kräuterlikör mit demNamen Becherovka, erfundendurch die Familie Becher undheute berühmtestesNationalgetränk derTschechischen Republik.

Mill ColonnadeBuilt between 1871 and 1881 by JosefZitek, this Neo-Renaissance colonnademeasures 132 metres and is one of the mostpopular buildings in Karlovy Vary.

CaStLe towere Castle Tower was built in 1608 andcan be found in the centre of the townabove the Castle Colonnade. e originalGothic building was constructed around1358 by Charles IV, but was destroyed byfire in 1604. It was subsequentlyreconstructed in Baroque style and isnow one of Karlovy Vary’s best knownlandmarks.

Karlovy Vary is famed for it’shosting of the InternationalFilm Festival, but this is notonly a place of film projectionand awards, because the town’sunique architecture andbeauty have also made it apopular destination forshooting movies, many ofwhich made it big at the BoxOffice.

e following are some of thebigger movies which have beenshot in Karlovy Vary in recenttimes.

CAsino RoyAlE

e 21st film in James Bond series and thefirst to star Daniel Craig. Parts of the moviewere also shot in Prague, while the famous

Grandhotel Pupp and the beautiful MillColonnade were used when the camerasarrived in Karlovy Vary.

e town played the role of theMontenegro resort where Bond confrontsthe terrorist financier Le Chiffre. In themovie, Bond stays in Hotel Splendide,which really is the Grandhotel Pupp.

Mill Colonnade was portrayed as the trainstation which marked Bond and Lynd’sarrival in Montenegro, while Lazne 1 (Spa1) which can be found nearby GrandhotelPupp was used as the venue for the Casinofrom which the movie gets its name.

Grandhotel Pupp was also used (and thistime to even greater effect) in the 2006movie ‘Last Holiday’ which starred QueenLetifah and Gérard Depardieu.

Queen Latifah played Georgia Byrd in thecomedy and she choose the hotel as herplace of residence for what she thoughtwould be her one and only chance at aonce-in-a-lifetime holiday.

Karlovy Vary and the hotel appear asthemselves in the film, although visualeffects were used to make the spa town lookas though it sat at the foot of the Alps.Rumour has it that after watching themovie, several viewers actually called the

Pupp Hotel to enquire about reservingrooms.

Disney’s 2003 action comedy starringJackie Chan and Owen Wilson was alsofilmed in Karlovy Vary.

Once again, the Grandhotel Pupp was usedfor one of the scenes and the MillColonnade was also used during the scenewhen Rathbone (played by Aidan Gillen)shoots Artie Doyle, played by Tom Fisher.

Казино Рояль(CAsino RoyAlE)

21-й фильм из серии Джеймс Бонд ипервый Бонд для Дэниэла Крейга.Отдельные части фильма были сняты вПраге, а знаменитый Гранд-отель Пуппи прекрасная Млинская Колоннадабыли сняты в Карловых Варах.

Город исполнял роль курортаЧерногории, где Бонд сталкивается стеррористическим финансистом "LeChiffre". В фильме Бондостанавливается в отеле Сплендиде(Splendide), которым на самом делебыл Гранд-отель Пупп (GrandhotelPupp).

What is the secret of cooking in your Restaurant?

Our main secret (our philosophy) at Pizza James is that we cookwith a clear mind, meaning we are thinking about the art ofcooking, because that is what excites us, and it also excites us tofollow new trends in gastronomy. e quality of the meat we use isalso very important to us.

What would you personally recommend to try from the menu?

Our Restaurant specialises in Steaks and Fish, but I woulddefinitely recommend anything from our menu, because all dishesare of a high quality. My personal favourites are ‘Steak James’ andthe octopus. e biggest reason for these being my personalfavourites is that all our steak meats come direct from Argentinaand our fish comes twice per week from France…..so we guaranteefreshness at all times.

What wine would you recommend to have with the food you justmentioned?

e customer can choose wines from three different regions:Slovenia, Czech Republic and France. For Steak, I recommend theMerlot 2005; for fish I would choose Malvazija from "OdrudaGreap", which grows on the coast of Adriatic Sea.

I notice that you have a big variation of fish dishes on the menu.Do you have a passion for fish as much as you do for meat?

You could say that. I like fish as much as meat, but it alwaysdepends on the moment. If and when I choose a fish dish oversteak, it must be prepared in the Mediterranean style and it mustcreate a fantasy-like feeling for me.

So what is the difference between the preparation of fish in theregular way and the Mediterranean way?

Coming from the Mediterranean region means that we try to keepthe recipes and the cooking steps which our ancestors used in yearsgone by. I feel this ensures uniqueness. And of courseMediterraneans would only use the freshest ingredients, as do we.

Главный секрет и философия "Пиццерии Джеймс" том, что мыготовим с ясным умом, то есть мы думаем об искусствеприготовления пищи. Прежде всего, потому что нам нравитьсяготовить, а также для нас важно следовать новым тенденциям вобласти гастрономии. Очень важно для нас качество инградиентов,которые мы используем.

Что бы Вы лично порекомендовали попробовать из меню?

Наш ресторан специализируется на стейках и рыбе, но безсомнения, я бы порекомендовал отведать что-нибудь из нашегоменю, потому что все блюда у нас высокого качества. Мое самоелюбимое - это Стейк "Джеймс" и осьминог. Основная причина, покоторой они являются моими личными фаворитами, это то, что всенаше мясо для стейков доставляется прямо из Аргентины, а рыбумы получаем два раза в неделю из Франции - так что мыгарантируем свежесть в любое время.

Какое вино вы могли бы порекомендовать к тем блюдам, окоторых вы только что говорили?

Наши гости могут выбрать вино из трех различных регионов:Словения, Чехия и Франция. Для стейка я рекомендую Merlot 2005года; для рыбы я бы выбрал Malvazija того сорта винограда,который растет на побережье Адриатического моря.

Я заметила, что у вас большой выбор рыбных блюд в меню. Увас такая же страсть к рыбе, как и к мясу?

Можно так сказать. Я люблю рыбу столько же, сколько и мясо, ноэто всегда зависит от ситуации. Если я выбираю рыбное блюдовместо стейка, то приготовленое по средиземноморскому рецепту.Блюдо обязательно должно быть приготовлено с душой ифантазией!

А в чем же разница между приготовлением рыбы обычнымспособом и на средиземноморский лад?

Мы стараемся поддерживать рецепты и последовательностьприготовления блюда, которые использовали наши предки, жившиена Средиземном море много лет назад. Я чувствую, что этообеспечивает подлинность. И, конечно, средиземноморский способподразумевает использование только самых свежих ингредиентов,как это делаем мы.

T he oldest golf club in theCzech Republic and alsoone of the best!

Karlovy Vary Golf Resort wasestablished in 1904 by the'Gentlemen's Fencing Club' with theobjective of expanding the range ofsporting activities available for guestsvisiting the spas.Originally, it was a nine-hole coursesituated in ‘Gejzirpark’ on the southernoutskirts of the town, but it soonbecame clear that nine holes would beinsufficient for a town that wasbecoming more and more celebratedand a sport that was becoming moreand more popular.Consequently, the local council madeplans for expansion and an area close tothe small town of Olšová Vrata waseventually selected as the perfectlocation for a bigger and better course. Paris architect, C. Noskowski was oneof the top golf course designers at that

time and it was he who created thelayout of the new course in 1933. However, the economic crisis andWorld War II ensured that the facilitywas never fully completed and noclubhouse was ever established.More bad news followed, as golfbecame an undesirable sport followingthe change in the Czech politicalenvironment in 1948. However, thehard work and perseverance of a smallgroup of players comprising mostly ofearlier members ensured the rebirth ofthe club in 1949.Since then, it has gone from strengthto strength and proof of this can bewitnessed through the expansion ofclub membership (currently more than900 members), the construction of awonderful clubhouse and the creationof active teams such as the LadiesTeam, the Seniors team and the Juniorteam.

THE COURSEe course itself is right up there withthe very best parkland courses you willfind in Europe and provides a stiff testfor even the most accomplished golfer,with a huge emphasis on accuracy. GER Der älteste Golfklub in derTschechischen Republik und einer derBesten!Das Karlsbader Golf Resort wurde im Jahre1904 durch den „Gentlemen-Fan-Klub“mit dem Ziel etabliert, die Palette ansportlichen Aktivitäten für die Gäste derermen zu erweitern.Ursprünglich gab es nur den Neun-LochGolfplatz im Geysirpark des südlichenStadtrandes, aber bald wurde klar, dass„neun Löcher” ungenügend für eine Stadtwären die immer berühmter wurde, undeiner Sportart die zunehmende Popularitätgenoss. Folgerichtig arbeitete der GemeinderatPläne für eine Expansion aus, undschließlich wurde ein Ort in der Nähe derkleinen Stadt Olšová Vrata zum perfektenPlatz für einen größeren und besserenGolfplatz auserkoren.Der Pariser Architekt C. Noskowski, einerder besten Golfplatz-Designer zu jener Zeit,gestaltete im Jahre 1933 schließlich denGrundriss des neuen Golfplatzes.

Als Beweis können derAnstieg der Klubmitgliedschaft (derzeitmehr als 900 Mitglieder), der Bau eineswunderschönen Klubhauses und dieSchaffung aktiver Spielergruppen, wie dasFrauenteam, Seniorenteam undJuniorenteam aufgezählt werden.

Карловарский Гольф Резорт был основан

в 1904 году "Джентльменским клубом
