Director’s WelcomeWelcome to Knightsbridge Schools International (KSI) Algarve. KSI Algarve is the newest school to join the global KSI family. Located within the established campus of Colégio Bernardette Romeira it is situated in Olhão in the Algarve.

KSI Algarve is a private international school for boys and girls. It will be the fi rst school in the Algarve to off er the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The school provides a unique and holistic approach to education, in an international environment, rich in happiness and compassion. Students are encouraged to become lifelong learners and independent problem-solvers. The supportive and nurturing staff challenge students to fulfi l their learning potential. KSI celebrates academic achievements alongside personal, physical, social and emotional growth.

Modelled on both the successful features of Knightsbridge School in London and international standards expected of high quality schools across the globe, KSI Algarve offers a unique and holistic approach to education. The KSI Group has schools and centres in Montenegro, Colombia, Panama, Turkey, Portugal and a sister school, Knightsbridge School, in London. Co-located within the established school campus of Colégio Bernardette Romeira, KSI Algarve is situated in Olhão in the Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region. The school enjoys excellent facilities and a convenient location situated 15 minutes from the Algarve’s international airport at Faro.

KSI will be the first school in the Algarve to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The school is in the process of obtaining its international licence from the Portuguese Ministry of Education and its IB PYP candidacy from the International Baccalaureate Organisation.

Only schools authorised by the IB Organization can offer any of its academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the Career-related Certificate (IBCC).

Primary Years ProgrammeThe IB Primary Years Programme for students aged 3-12, focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. The journey of inquiry draws upon the Sciences, Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Personal, Social, Physical Education and Languages. The units spiral through six transdisciplinary themes, each supporting the learners to construct a deep understanding of concepts and ‘big ideas’ that can be applied across the different subject areas. Through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values and understandings, learners are prepared to think critically about the world.

Learners at KSI Algarve come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The primary language of instruction is English and the school is committed to the implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) as the curriculum.

Multiple LanguagesEnglish is the primary language of instruction at KSI Algarve with Portuguese language being studied by all of its students. This enables learners to develop a better cultural understanding and integrate into the Portuguese community. Mother tongue language support or an additional language is offered to enable learners to engage productively and creatively in a global environment, thereby living the vision and mission of KSI.

TechnologyKSI is dedicated to the use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning, which engages and inspires all learners in a global society to become innovative, and ethical citizens

SportThe school’s excellent facilities allow learners to participate in a range of sports including; swimming lessons, karate, football and basketball.

The ArtsCreativity and expression is promoted throughout the arts curriculum and beyond. Great pride is taken in displaying creativity around the school as well as through assemblies and public exhibitions. The shared music facilities offered at Colégio Bernardette Romeira, allow KSI learners to take part in shared music lessons where they can select an instrument of their choice to learn.

PlayCo-Curricular Activities Co-Curricular activities allow students to explore and develop new skills and interests. Activities are developmentally appropriate to a specific age group and designed to support the school’s inquiry based learning curriculum.
