Morning Routines• The gates to the school are open at 8.30am every morning.

• Children should keep their rucksacks and book bags but put lunch boxes and drink bottles in the appropriate box. Then go to play which avoids anybody coming into the building.

• If your child’s book needs changing they need to place their reading books in the appropriate box.

• Place home learning books in the appropriate box by Wednesday please.

• As they gain confidence we will be encouraging children to wave goodbye at the green gates and come in independently.

Afternoon Routines

• After School Club children will be taken to the cabin from the classroom.

• Children attending clubs will be taken to the meeting point for their clubs where they can get changed independently.

• It is important that we know who is authorised to collect your children from school. Please ensure the green permission form is updated for this year. New copies can be obtained from the office.

Necessary equipment

• Water bottle, with fresh water daily.• Coat.• PE kit.

PE kit must be in school every day. Children are not allowed to do PE wearing earrings.

If they have laces then please make sure they can tie them up! It would also benefit the children if they could wear trainers for outdoor PE.

Mid-morning snacks

• A fruit or vegetable snack is provided every morning playtime.

• Milk is also available for playtime. (Please enquire at the office).

Meeting Teachers

• Should you have any worries or concerns. please let your child’s class teacher know.

• Home/school link message book.• Please arrange a meeting for after school

if you need to have a discussion with the class teacher.

• Parents evenings:

Wednesday 21st October – late appointments.

Thursday 22nd October – early appointments.

• Book an appointment with your class teacher by signing up on the sheets outside (KS1) or calling the office with availability so that they can do so.

Home learning• Reading - Please read as much as possible with

your child – 5 to 10 minutes each day is ideal (they don’t have to finish the whole book). Please talk to them about what they have read afterwards.

• We have extended our current reading scheme to broaden your children’s vocabulary and give them further challenge.

• Spelling – children are expected to know how to read and spell most of the first 100 words by the end of KS1 and if appropriate we will send some spellings home to practise at home (as well as learning them in school.)

• Maths key skills – basic number facts / times tables / time / shopping / games.

Home learning• Home learning is given out on Friday and needs to

be returned by the following Wednesday please.

• Home learning is sent via parent mail. If you have difficulty receiving this please speak to the office and ask for a paper copy.

• Children only need to spend 10-15 minutes on home learning and not all home learning will need to be put into their books.

Teaching & Learning

• English and Maths are taught every day.

• Phonics is taught every day.

• A theme based curriculum which builds on skills and values.

• The government are introducing statutory testing in spelling and grammar and in maths from May 2016

NC requirements• KS1 name and locate the world’s 7

continents and five oceans. • Name, locate and identify characteristics of

the four countries and capital cities of the UK and its surrounding areas

Curriculum 2014Geography news book

KS1 - Each class will have a news book which children will take home weekly which will focus on events in the UK. They will then have the opportunity to discuss their news event and pin point on a map the location (copy of world map and map of British Isles on display in classroom and use of digi-map). Regular opportunities for children to rehearse locational knowledge will be built into every unit of work throughout the keystage.

Teaching & Learning

• Assessment for Learning (AfL) is used throughout the school to help children become more independent learners and to help them understand their learning journey.

SATs • The new national curriculum will be assessed for the

first time in May 2016. There will be new tests for key stage 1, as well as key stage 2.

• What the tests will cover• The tests will cover English reading, English grammar,

punctuation and spelling, and mathematics at key stages 1 and 2.
