Kororo Public School Hello everyone! Our teachers have been very busy over the last few weeks preparing Semester One 2019 Student Reports. I have enjoyed reading and sharing the students learning journey. Im sure you will also enjoy sharing and celebrating with your child/rens learning achievements for the Semester at Kororo Public School. I have copied a selection of summaries to explain the A to E Common Grade Scale that all NSW Public Schools use. There will be some changes amongst staff next term that will assist in utilising our school resources and staff expertise to provide engaging quality lessons for all Kororo Public School students. There will be notes sent home with the students whose classes will be part of the change. We have tried very hard to ensure there will be minimal disruptions to learning. Kororo staff are excited about the change and there will be more information as the semester begins. Enjoy the holidays and we are looking forward to another successful semester of learning. Students return for Term 3 on Tuesday, 23rd July. GRADING SYSTEM….cont.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Kororo PS community. My name is Melissa Fenton and I have been permanently appointed as the Deputy Principal of Kororo PS.

I look forward to this new opportunity and feel privileged to be appointed to this position. I had been the Assistant Principal and Relieving Deputy Principal of Narranga PS since 2011 and thoroughly love living and working on the Coffs Coast. My passion for teaching is literacy and I love working with my students to develop a love of reading. I also love working with technology and helping my students to engage in their lessons with 21

st century learning strategies.

Over the past few days, I have been fortunate enough to meet many of the wonderful students and see that there are many exciting programs occurring in the school. I look forward to gaining a greater understanding of the context of the school and its operations and build a strong partnership with the school community. The relationship between home and the school plays a very important part in a child’s education. Two-way communication is a critical factor in the partnership between parents and the school. Where a partnership exists, it is easier for parents to feel confident about the teaching and learning taking place in the classroom and to solve problems. I want to urge you to make contact with myself if you have any concerns or simply if you want to provide any feedback to the school.

Twilight Fair - Helpers Needed! The Twilight Fair is the schools major fundraiser. The money raised from the previous fair provided many valuable resources for our school including the new stage, ipads and home readers. It also funded the new library fitout. For the twilight fair to go ahead, the P&C rely heavily on volunteers and donations.

This year the Twilight Fair is at risk of being cancelled due to lack of volunteers! If you can help out in anyway, even if it’s just on the night, it would be greatly appreciated. Any donations towards the fair would also be appreciated.

SPELLING BEE WINNERS Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winners for Stage 2 and 3 which was held at school last week.

Stage 2 winners were Leo T and Ryder P and the Stage 3 winners were Barton F and Isaac M. These 4 boys will now compete in the Regional Competition next term, more details to come later.

We are delighted to inform you that Kororo PS will be participating in the world-renowned ICAS

Assessments again this year in Term 3 2019. ICAS is developed by UNSW Global, a wholly owned

subsidiary of the University of New South Wales, with over 35 years’ experience in educational

assessments.

ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English,

Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling and Digital Technologies.

Each assessment celebrates students’ accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition. Every

student will receive a certificate and an online result report. Top performers will be eligible for medals and

are invited to attend special award ceremonies to have their academic excellence publicly recognised.

The assessments are suitable for students wishing to extend themselves academically and take up the

personal challenge of competing in an international assessment. Your child will be presented with

high-quality, expert-developed questions, allowing them to apply their learning without the need for prior

study or revision.

ICAS Assessments are now online, a move that reflects a sector-wide transition to computer-based

assessment. This allows greater accessibility for students and faster delivery of results.

This year our ICAS Assessments will be paid for online through the University of NSW Payment System.

Please keep your eye out in the newsletter or Skoolbag for further details about how this process will work,

as registrations and payments will need to be made by Wednesday 14th August 2019.

You can learn more about ICAS here: unsw.global/ICAS
