Page 10: KONGUNADU ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE ......The Department of English (Aided), Kongunadu Arts and Science College conducted an Inter Departmental Competitive Celebration ³FLORINA ´

They were accompanied by two faculty members of the English Department,

Dr.Shobha Ramaswamy (Assistant Professor and Head) and Dr.K.Kaviyarasu (Assistant

Professor).

The venue was near the Sri Dhanalakshmipuram arch, in a ground close to the

overhead water tank. The students started by distributing leaflets on the dangers of the use of

plastics. They began their performance around 5.45 pm. Water scarcity, pollution, problems

faced by agriculturists, the dangers of plastic use, over-population, wasteful use of resources,

the pitfalls of modern living-these were some of the issues dealt with in the street play. The

script was in Tamil and penned by Mr.G.Vigneswaran (171EL009) of II B.A. English

Literature.

There was enthusiastic response from the local people. Some of them stopped their

vehicles to watch the performance. Children clapped and repeated the lines which were

extremely catchy. In fact, since the crowd increased once people started to come back from

work, they wanted an encore.

The students performed the play once again to the delight of the audience.

Photographs were taken and videos were recorded by the faculty members.

The students of II B.A. performed a street play on environmental issues in Tamil.

by Vijay Tendulkar, named “Bobby’s Story.” This was successfully adapted by Mr.Rene

Godson of III B.A. who wrote the script and directed it. The aim of the skit was to show the

power of positive motivation. Characters like Cinderella, The Witch, The Bufoon, The

Monkey, the Teacher, Chhota Bhim and Baahubali enraptured the audience. The session was

highly interactive in nature, with the actors going amongst the audience and also sitting in the

last row as part of the “class”.

Mr.G.Vigneswaran of II B.A. in the guise of “The Mad Clown” related humorously

the tale behind the death of the donkey in the children’s rhyme, “Inky, Pinky, Ponky.” He
