KNOWLEDGE INCUBATION FOR TEQIP
IIT KANPUR
Glimpse of the Program
ABOUT
The economic strength of a country is usually judged by the growth of its
manufacturing industries. Therefore, manufacturing has become part of the
fabric of our country with emphasis on
"Make in India" by the government. It is
essential that technical workforce from all
disciplines have basic idea about
processes involved in making a product.
Knowledge Incubation for TEQIP
organized this 12-day course with the
motive to impart the basic knowledge
about the fundamental manufacturing techniques employed to convert a raw
material into final
product.
The course was
conducted at TA202 lab.
Almost 20 IIT Kanpur
staff were involved all
day to conduct this
course. Each day started
with one-hour lecture
about various
manufacturing processes
followed by working in
the lab.
Undergraduate students accompanied by a faculty actively participated in this
program. Participants came from various TEQIP institutes from U.P, Jharkhand,
Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu.
TOPICS DISCUSSED
1. Introduction: Introduction to manufacturing, evolution of
manufacturing, importance of design in manufacturing,
engineering materials, mechanical properties important for
manufacturing.
2. Conventional Material Removal Processes: Theory of chip
formations, generation of surfaces, force and power
relationships, cutting tool material and its geometry, tool wear,
fundamentals of machine tools, types of machining operations.
3. Unconventional Material Removal Processes: Introduction,
mechanical energy processes, thermal energy processes, electro
chemical machining.
4. Computer Numerical Control and Programming: Basics of

OUTCOME
This program received an overwhelming response from various TEQIP
colleges. This course has been a great success for the second year in a
row. Dr. Niraj Sinha organized this course in such a way that the students
and faculty were excited with the course plan and left very satisfied
overall learning experience.
At the end of the course, the participants were able to demonstrate a
working prototype designed, fabricated and assembled by them. The
prototypes were based on agriculture, transportation, healthcare,
educational toys to help school children, machines and mechanisms.
This program presented an opportunity to the students to get a hands
on experience that they usually lack due to absence of infrastructure
in their institute.
The faculty members were exposed to the pedagogy of IIT Kanpur
and the course helped them in planning similar courses and setting
up the lab in their parent institute in an efficient manner.
This program introduced participants to
o Mechanical properties of materials,
o Conventional and non-conventional material removal
processes
o CNC programming
o Metrology
o Microfabrication processes
o Layered manufacturing technique

By organizing more workshop & Lab Courses (26)
It can practically improve by skills and knowledge (05)
By providing workshop on different topic in different place and many other activity (03)
Greeting a platform, the student from different college come together and work as something which enhances their learning skills and commercials (04)
I didn’t know that now to start the design so if this is done by TEQIP then it can improve research (03)
It can surely help in the learning process as they have a lot of facilities available for students like us. Moreover
TEQIP help to improve our knowledge by conducting the various workshop internship and session etc. (02)
