Know the Insights of Gulmarg Gondola Gulmarg is considered to be one of the most beautiful places on planet Earth. Located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, this place is widely renowned for the Gulmarg Gondola that adds more charm to the city. It is the longest and the highest cable car project in Asia. This is basically the two-stage ropeway that ferries about 600 people every house to and fro from Kongdoori Mountain, which is a shoulder of nearby Afarwat Peak; it is about 4200 m above from mean sea level. This first stage transfers from the Gulmarg resort, located 2600 m above from mean sea level, to Kongdoori Station situated in the bowl-shaped Kongdori valley. On the other hand, the second stage of the ropeway has 18 towers and 36 cabins and takes people who want to ski to a height of 3747 m above from mean sea level on Kongdoori Mountain. This second stage was completed of about two years at a cost of Rs. 110,000,000, which is a record. Gulmarg Gondola was opened for public on May 28, 2005. The Gulmarg Gondola Project including Phase I and Phase II was executed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir through the Tourism Department in 1987. However, the work for erection, supply, installation and commissioning was handed over to the M.S Pomagalski of France in 1988. The Jammu and Kashmir Government stated the J&K State Cable Car Corporation in the Companies Act, 1956 with the capital of about Rs 2500.00 Lakh for pursuing a set of objectives laid down in its Memorandrum of Association and Articles. In the pursuit of these objectives, the Jammu and Kashmir State Cable Car Corporation took the business of Gulmarg Project from the French company; however, the work was on till 1990. The latter terminated their service due to unprecedented situation in J&K. Due to long pursuit of the corporation management and the government, M/S Pomagalski of France resumed their service in the 1998 to complete the section I that runs from Gulmag to Kongdoor. This project was put to commercial operation in May 1998.
