Brother Knights,

This month I would like to bring your attention to a brother Knight from our council that needs our help, now and into the foreseeable future. Many of you know him, his name is Ted Asher and his heart is failing. Please read the message below.

Ted’s heart has been failing for the last 10 years. Last summer, the day we hoped might never come, did, in-fact, arrive. Ted’s condition became acute. He was admitted to Emory Hospital, and came home on a drip-medication called milrinone. After several weeks, the line that delivered the medication became infected. He went back to the hospital, and after forty days he came home with an LVAD.

Now, Ted is listed for a heart transplant at Emory University Hospital. At the urging of Dr. Andrew Smith, Ted became a client of Georgia Transplant Foundation, or GTF. As a client of GTF Transplant Fund-raising Program (TPF), he is fund-raising to help cover the costs of the immunosuppressive medications he will need after his transplant takes place. It is astonishing to learn that even with medical insurance, due to deductibles and copays, the uncovered costs of these medications can easily be thousands of dollars per month!

Through Ted’s involvement with GTF he

is eligible to be matched $1 for every dollar he raises. GTF will partner with Ted’s pharmacy, so his copays will be billed directly to his GTF account. Ted won’t have to pay the copays for his medications “up front” and then await reimbursement. This GTF service will make post-transplant life much less stressful for Ted, and therefore greatly increase his chance of survival. GTF staff will oversee all deposits and bills. No amount of money is too small a donation. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration, prayers, and support. You can donate by mailing a check or money order made payable to Georgia Transplant Foundation with Ted's full name, THEODORE ASHER, JR. in the memo line, and mailing that to:

Ted's Heart

When Ted first became sick, I prayed that he would live to see Theo graduate from college, and Ben graduate from high school. God granted that, and more!

Theo graduated from college in 2011 and married Stephanie in March 2013; Ben is doing well at UGA, majoring in both Physics and Math while maintaining a 3.8 GPA!

Still, it is undeniable: Ted’s heart has been failing for the last 10 years.

As a client of GTF Transplant Fundraising Program (TPF), he is fundraising to help cover the costs of the immunosuppressive medications he will need after his transplant takes place. It is astonishing to learn that even with medical insurance, due to deductibles and copays, the uncovered costs of these medications can easily be thousands of dollars per month!
