Mission Statement

Koorlbardi Maintenance Services (KMS) is an up and coming provider of plumbing and gas-fitting services in the Perth Metropolitan area. The business is a majority owned Indigenous organization aimed at provide quality maintenance to clients in our operating region.

Our Vision

Once established KMS has a vision for providing quality employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians in the trades and services industry. In order to accomplish such a goal KMS must be set up for success with a viable product that is sustainable.

Business objectives of KMS include but are not limited to;

• Develop and maintaining a quality service• Make KMS an economically viable entity• Development of Business / Synergies• Business growth within market• Up-skilling of employees • Engrain culture into business and employees• Possible employment opportunities to Aboriginal youth

Koorlbardi Maintenance Services will expand its existing workforce to provide quality and sustainable training for Indigenous Australians. These personnel may be partially or fully qualified in trades based education or be seeking trade qualifications in the form of apprentice or traineeships. In order to further the growth of Indigenous youth in the South-West KMS will endeavor to recruit and train participants from existing capability building programs.

Our Points of Difference

Koorlbardi Maintenance Service as a business must have a clear operational direction and due to the fact that many businesses operate in the same industry there must be significant points of difference and a unique selling proposition.

KMS has developed the following points of difference:

Contracts

During 2015 Spotless obtained the maintenance contracts from the Department of Housing. They have tendered this contract in which NANA Australia were successful in obtaining. NANA Australia has then sub-contracted the services to KMS.

According to the 2013/14 Annual Report from the Department of Housing were 16,000 housing opportunities across the state of Western Australia. The Perth Metropolitan area makes up a vast percentage of these properties. KMS will perform plumbing and gas fitting services for the South-Central zone of this contract which includes suburbs including but are not limited to Bentley, Como, Karawara and Willetton.

David Watson-Brown – Senior Plumbing Supervisor

David will be supervising and managing a small team that will be onsite for day to day work operations. David will also be in charge of ensuring that communication and directions from Brett Merrey (Director of Operations) are carried out effectively and efficiently by the team and himself. David will also be in direct communication with Spotless, ensuring that all day to day job requests received are completed and delegated to the highest standard.David has over 30 years of plumbing and gas-fitting experience. Working in a variety of industries David understands that quality service is critical in such an organization. David has worked in supervision roles previously and will ensure that KMS employees deliver reliable and effective solutions to any problem that may arise.

David has experience in a wide variety of industry sectors including, but not limited to, Mining, Rail Infrastructure, Building and Construction – Domestic and Industrial and Offshore Oil and Gas. As a qualified plumber and licensed contractor David has an effective commitment to high quality solutions for your plumbing needs.

Major Clients

Department of Housing – Western Australia

The Department of Housing is an affordable housing provider involved in land development, housing construction and property management. The work performed by the department contributes to social and economic growth by delivering quality housing that people can afford and providing people with opportunities to prosper through home ownership. Western Australian Department of Housing works in close collaboration and partnership with private, government and not-for-profit sectors to find new ways to increase the supply of affordable housing in WA. Current targets consist of having at least 20,000 affordable housing opportunities by 2020.

Spotless

Spotless is a large diverse company that remains committed to family values. These values include honesty, respect and loyalty. Spotless has obtained the maintenance contracts for the Department of Housing from the original holders Transfield Services. Since taking over the contract, Spotless have maintained over 90,000 homes in public housing estates.

Spotless are primary stakeholders in all maintenance works for the Western Australian Department of Housing. An effective relationship with Spotless is crucial to the success of Koorlbardi Maintenance Service.

NANA Group

NANA Australia partners with Australian traditional owner groups and Aboriginal companies to share the lessons they have learned over 40 years of business experience. NANA Australia serves their clients with a proven success in engaging local communities, and promoting local hire and economic development. NANA Australia is an effective bridge between two worlds – Indigenous and Non-Indigenous; business and traditional.

NANA Australia has provided access to the sub-contracting of Department of Housing properties. However NANA will only be a supporting mechanism and when KMS is able to stand alone NANA will negotiate arrangements so Spotless and KMS can be in direct business with each other.

Taylor Hayward - Chief Executive Officer

Taylor oversees the operation of Koorlbardi Maintenance Service and is a Noongar man from the Collie and Katanning areas of the state’s South-West. Taylor comes from a trade background having completed his Electrical and Instrumentation qualifications under an apprenticeship in the Mining sector. Taylor aims introduce effective policies and procedures that allow for a safe, inclusive work environment.

Brett Merrey – Director of Operations

Brett will be in charge of all on-site operational aspects of KMS. Brett will be in direct contact with employees that are on site working at a variety of locations to ensure efficient and effective work is taking place at all times and that employees are doing the necessary work that is required by KMS. His aim is to ensure that the organization is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible, and that the goods and/or services produced meet client or customer needs.

Noelene Merrey – Chief Financial Officer

Noelene’s role within KMS will be to oversee and manage the key financial aspects of the organisation. Noelene will lead the team in regards to all communication with financial institutions and monetary matters and ensure that clear KMS is positioned effectively and correctly when it comes to dealing all financial matters. Noelene will work directly with accountants to produce monthly reports so that the management team of KMS are effectively informed on all financial matters.

Jackson Merrey – HR Advisor

Jackson consults with business units on the broad spectrum of human resource management, including: workforce planning, organization design, leadership effectiveness, employee and labour relations, employee engagement, workplace culture, diversity and inclusion. Jackson will also advise Senior Management on the interpretation and application of corporate policy, collective agreements, governance and applicable legislation. Jackson currently studies at Murdoch University in a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in International Business
