Every year, the year 6 students from up to eight schools in the Tuart Division of schools, participate in a carnival that allows students to play Winter sports. Open Night Every year, in term 3, we hold our open night. All classes from PP-year 6 are open as well as specialist classes, for parents and students to wander through and look at what happens at school. Work samples will be on display and this is your opportunity to see school through your child’s eyes. We encourage parents with students in Kindergarten to visit Pre Primary classes during Open Night. The school will be open between 5.30 and 7pm on Wednesday 13 th September, which is week 9. Parents can assist us in ensuring that any older children who accompany you, stay with you. It is dangerous for high school students to be ring bikes, scooters or skateboards through the school in semi darkness while we have potentially 1500 people wandering through classes. NAPLAN Reports Parents of years 3 and 5 students can expect to receive their individualised NAPLAN reports on Friday 8 th September. All schools in the local area will send the reports out on the same day.

Winter Carnival

I don’t think that anyone can argue that we have encountered a wet and

cold winter, so when we plan to have a “Winter Carnival”, we do expect a

little rain. The biggest issue we had this year was ensuring that the playing

grounds were not giant lakes or mud. Every year, the year 6 students from

up to eight schools in the Tuart Division of schools, participate in a carnival

that allows students to play Winter sports. This year we played football,

soccer and netball against Treendale PS, Parkfield PS, Glen Huon PS and

Bunbury Primary School. All teams were mixed with boys and girls and while I am sure that the

students kept score, the focus was on participation and representing the school.

Once again our students demonstrated the virtues that are expected of Kingston kids and while

they encountered a little rain to finish the day, the event was a huge success.

Disco

The second and final Disco for 2017 will be held on Thursday 2 November. The Junior students

(years 1-3), commence at 5.30pm and conclude at 6.30pm. The Senior Disco commences at

7.00pm and concludes at 8.30pm.

Swimming Lessons

Congratulations to the year 5 students who completed their swimming lessons

last week. We had a 98% attendance rate and all reports have very favourable.

The year 6 lessons commence this week and I am sure that we will have similar

attendance and success rates.

Open Night

Every year, in term 3, we hold our open night. All classes from PP-year 6 are open

as well as specialist classes, for parents and students to wander through and look

at what happens at school. Work samples will be on display and this is your

opportunity to see school through your child’s eyes. We encourage parents with

students in Kindergarten to visit Pre Primary classes during Open Night.

The school will be open between 5.30 and 7pm on Wednesday 13th September, which is week 9.

Parents can assist us in ensuring that any older children who accompany you, stay with you. It is

dangerous for high school students to be ring bikes, scooters or skateboards through the school in

semi darkness while we have potentially 1500 people wandering through

classes.

NAPLAN Reports

Parents of years 3 and 5 students can expect to receive their

individualised NAPLAN reports on Friday 8th September. All schools in the

local area will send the reports out on the same day.

While these reports give valuable information about your child, both at an individual level and a

school level, you should already know how your child is going. NAPLAN is a report on one day

based on single assessments. More comprehensive data is available from the classroom teacher

through ongoing assessment.

Japan

Excitement is mounting as twenty students from years 5 and 6 count down the next four weeks

before flying from Perth to Kansai airport in Osaka and then to by bus to Kobe,

where we will meet up with our friends from Takenodai Elementary School.

This is part of our biannual agreement with our Sister School and once we

return, we will commence planning for their return visit in 2018. If your child

will be in years 5 or 6 in 2019, and you might consider being part of this

fantastic cultural opportunity, you may wish to get involved in a homestay

opportunity for a Japanese student in 2018.

Important dates for your calendars:

Junior sports carnival – Week 1, Term 4 – 13th October

Senior sports carnival – Week 2, Term 4 – 20th October

Winter carnival 2017

Last Friday the Year 6 students travelled to Hay Park to play in the annual Winter Carnival. The sports played this year were Football, Soccer and Netball. The focus was on participation, having a go. This year we had a huge increase in boys choosing to do Netball and girls playing footy. Both groups from all reports displayed amazing skills.

I would like to thank the parent helpers, teachers and support staff that helped on the day. Without your help the students would not have had as much fun and the day would not have been so successful. Mr Campbell

Book Week This week is Book Week. The theme is “Escape to Everywhere”. There will be special guests reading in the library every day at lunch time and the Costume Parade will be on Wednesday morning (23 August) at 9am in the Pre Primary area. Remember to dress up tomorrow.

Virtues This term, the Year 6 students are learning about:

Integrity

Integrity is standing up for what you believe is right, living by your higher values. It

is being honest and sincere with others and yourself. You are integrous when your

words and actions match. You don’t fool yourself into doing what you know is wrong.

You fill your life and your mind with things that help you to live a good, clean life.

I have integrity. I mean what I say and say what I mean. I stand up for what I feel is right. I am my own leader.

applications, coding, robotics and digital technologies.

Output can be either the device a computer uses to give you information or the actual information itself.

Output can come in many forms such as words, images, movement and sound.

A Word From Your Chaplain…

Just a reminder…Kate Black and myself have a morning tea get together, we call ‘Chin Wag’,

every Thursday morning from 9am to about 10.30am in the OSH room. This is open to anyone

who is new to the area, FIFO/DIDO families, feeling isolated or would

just like to pop in for a chat, a cuppa…and a good laugh. Love to see

you there!

On a final note, if you feel your child or yourself would benefit from

some extra support, please don’t hesitate to contact the school to speak

to myself. I may be able to assist you readily or help link you with one

of the support agencies within the community.

Have a great fortnight

FUNDRAISING NEWS

We are very excited to offer a fabulous family photography package this term, thanks to Cherie Anne photography! For $25, you will have your photos taken in a choice of 2 local locations, and you’ll receive a beautiful 8x10 gift portrait free. $10 from every sitting will go to the Fundraising committee. If you are interested, please get in contact with Cherie on 0447806307 and book your family session now. Such a great idea for Christmas presents for the family.

I am still looking for volunteers for the Fathers’ Day Stall. We will be holding the stall at Kindy on Wednesday 30th so volunteers will be needed from 11:30 to approx. 3pm. On Thursday 31st and Friday 1st we will be in the library from 8:45 to 3pm. With over 800 students at our school, I have only had one volunteer put their hand up! This is rather disappointing. If you have an hour to spare, please let me know.

It is a really wonderful way to meet other parents and the children love to see you helping out. Class teachers will let you know when your child needs to bring some money to shop for dad or the special men in their lives. Please remember to send money along with them as items will not be held or taken home without payment.

If you would like to volunteer in the Uniform Shop, please email [email protected] or stop by for a chat. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Tanya Meyer – Uniform Co-ordinator

SUSTAINABILITY CORNER

Loose Parts Play Incursion Last week we were honoured to have Emma Clay and Kate Shaw, from the Harvey Bunbury Waste Management Group show our Pre Primary to Year 3 students how to use everyday materials in play. This has shown students how to use these materials safely and creatively. This also supports the Reuse part of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle motto. This activity was provided free from the Harvey Shire. Our long term plan is to create a Loose Parts Play zone in the Junior Playground area. Many thanks to these ladies who battled the wind and rain of last week. Thanks also to Miss Walmsley, Mrs Dewer and Mrs Hill for their help in organising this incursion.

Hello from OSHClub

This week we are discovering nature. Jayde and Julie have helped us

create an amazing nature table. We went outside last week whilst

dodging the big rain clouds and explored in the garden and we found

some pretty cool stuff in the garden. This term we have also been focusing on the weather and

predicting what we think the weather will be for the day or even the week.

This term we are looking for some community involvement. We are looking for people to come

in and talk to the children and have community involvement either by doing a workshop or

telling the children about what they do .

We are looking for the following :

• Doctor

• Dentist

• Ambulance

• Police

• Vet

• Horticulturist

• Sports enthusiasts

If you are or know someone who is a person listed and they would be happy to come in one afternoon please let me know. Please feel free to text me or give the OSH Club a call on 0411 038 413. If you require before school, after school or vacation care feel free to pop in and say hello or give Jayde and Julie a call. Have an awesome week From Julie and Jayde Kingston OSHClub
