Last month, on February 20th, the Board of Directors held a Cable Q & A Town Hall meeting in the Palace Theatre with over 900 residents in attendance. Presiding at the meeting was General Manager Carolyn Thomas and the Advanced Cable

TV team, namely Joe Canavan, Chief Operating Officer who has over 10 years of experience intelecommunications management, Jeff Blake President of Arrow Communications, with 20 years in telecom construction and Jim Charte, from CCI, Director of Engineering Technology with over 15 years in telecom Network Design.

Also attending the meeting was Leo Delgado from CSI, which is the nation's largest and most experienced solutions provider of Broadband agreements for residential communities. His company specializes in the negotiation and procurement of Bulk Cable TV, Non-Bulk Right of Entry Easement and exclusive marketing agreements for condominium and homeowner associations, builders, developers, national apartment owners, and real estate investment trusts. His company has served hundreds of businesses in the state of Florida and throughout the United States, generating more than $150 million in savings and earnings for their clients. Mr. Delgado stated that our contract with Advanced Cable was gold standard, one of the best he has seen.

Joe Canavan presented an overview of his company, which on February 7, 2017, officially changed theirname from Advanced Cable Communication to Blue Stream. Joe went on to explain the Kings Point Bulk Services and gave a comparison of the services from our present company, showing an out of pocket benefittoourhomeowners.Hetouchedoncustomerservice, pre-signing for services, installation and much more. Jeff Blake and Jim Charte explained the Construction & Installation process and Joe Canavan read some of the frequently asked questions. The meeting was then open for a Q&A discussion. Many residents asked questions and voiced their concerns, however, due to the timing factor some residents were unable to be called. Those residents were asked to submit their questions in writing to the Clubhouse so they can be addressed in the Q & A page in the Kings Point Life newspaper. We further suggest, that any resident who could not attend the meeting, monitor these updates in our newspaper, website, and channel 90 from time to time.

Rolling Stone magazine says they are “One of the best tribute shows in the world.” CBS News New York raved “A must see…get SATISFACTION!” and the Washington Post says “Satisfaction is a spot-on portrayal to the Rolling Stones.” The group has even earned the blessing of the real Rolling Stones, and many believe that their 2011 rendition of “Sympathy for the Devil” performed on stage with the San Diego Orchestra, actually surpasses the original hit. The good: This is a lean protein source that has a 1,298mg dose of omega-3, which will help weight loss and muscle gain. It will also provide your RDA of magnesium, potassium, thiamine, niacin, selenium and phosphorus. The bad: It can have high traces of heavy metals, such as mercury, and the tinned versions are often loaded with too much oil or salt. Eat with: Green tea extract. Researchers at the University of Purdue, Indiana, found that when people ate fish high in heavy metals and took tea extract, the amount of mercury absorbed was reduced by up to 92%. This also works as a fat burner making it a near perfect weight loss combo.

LAMBThe good: Lamb is rich in the energy-yielding vitamins niacin and B12, which helps give you slightly more energy than pork so you can exercise long enough to attack your fat reserves. The bad: It’s high in saturated fat (5g per 100g) but has little of it inside the meat so trim the bits of fat off before eating.Eat with: Thai spices. Research at the University of Arkansas found they can inhibit the cancer-causing heterocyclic amines often found in red meat by 43%.

How many more innocent lives must perish before our legislators pass meaningful and common sense gun legislation? How many more tragic attacks like those at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Sandy Hook Elementary and the Pulse nightclub need to occur before rational thought prevails?

Broward mourns five more lives lost in a tragic mass shooting – especially as this one occurred in our own backyard. It should be clear to everyone that dangerous individuals like alleged airport shooter Esteban Santiago, who clearly demonstrated signs of mental illness, should never have been allowed to own a gun.

In fact, any person suffering from certain disqualifying mental illness should not be able to buy, possess or carry any type of firearm – period. The same applies to convicted felons and individuals who are on the federal government’s terrorist “no-fly” list. We shouldn't be allowing people in these narrow categories to buy or carry firearms.

The statistics are telling. In just the last 12 months alone, 76 innocent victims died and scores more were injured due to U.S. mass shootings. Yet unbelievably, some argue arming more individuals is the solution. That goes for some legislators in Tallahassee, who appear more concerned about passing laws written by the gun lobbyists that would allow guns into classrooms and government meetings.

That dangerous line of thinking will only lead to further violence and bloodshed. As Sheriff of one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the country, I understand public safety better than gun industry lobbyists and those elected officials who help advance their agenda. I can say with certainty that more guns are not the answer. Imagine the chaos if everyone at the airport was armed with a firearm. Countless individuals would certainly have been caught in the wild crossfire and hit by stray bullets.

One study which examined New York’s annual firearms discharge reports showed police officers hit their targets 34 percent of the time. The hit ratio was even lower at other agencies. If law enforcement officers who carry guns daily and regularly train are successful at hitting their targets at that rate, it is clear that ordinary citizens would be significantly less accurate.

It would also make the job of law enforcement far more difficult and divert them from the real threat. In such a stressful and chaotic situation, with shots being fired in all directions, how could we expect law enforcement to recognize the good guys from the bad ones? The men and women of the Broward Sheriff's Office, local and federal law enforcement agencies and first responders did a phenomenal job rushing into a dangerous and chaotic situation. These heroes put their lives at risk to protect residents and visitors alike. We shouldn’t make it even more dangerous for them.

Let me be clear: gun control isn’t about restricting freedom or taking firearms legally obtained by law-abiding citizens. Instead, it is about common sense laws that help identify people with a history of criminal convictions, violence, certain high-risk mental illnesses or are on the FBI’s terrorist watch list. For years, I have been on the forefront in demanding common sense gun legislation, including closing the gun show loophole, reinstating the assault weapons ban and fighting against open carry laws.

It’s time our elected officials in Tallahassee and Washington finally do the same and tackle this life-threatening issue once and for all.

A Message from Sheriff Scott Israel

Dear Friends, The Congressional Review Act (CRA) of 1996 allows Congress to overturn rules issued by Federal agencies by passing a joint resolution of disapproval under expedited procedures. Enacted joint resolutions of disapproval not only stop rules from going into effect, but also prevent Federal agencies from issuing similar rules in the future. Until last month, only one rule had ever been disapproved by Congress under the CRA, at the beginning of President George W. Bush’s administration. That all changed with the start of the 115th Congress. In fact, House Republican leadership spent all last month disapproving of Obama administration rules, voting to repeal more than 20 rules to the detriment of environmental protections, consumer protections, workforce protections, healthcare, and educational programs. Many of these rules clarifiedregulationstoreducebureaucracyandimprovegovernmentefficiency, yetthe House Majority has taken a blanket approach to gutting as many rules as possible as quickly as possible. The long-term consequences of these repeals will be felt for years to come. Therepealof theOfficeofSurfaceMining'sStreamProtectionRulewasoneofthefirstsignedintolawbyPresidentTrump.Thisresolutionformallyremoved environmental protections requiring coal companies to clean up pollution after dumping coal ash into rivers following mountaintop removal mining. Another rule, passed by the House of Representative and referred to the United States Senate in mid-February, makes it easier for states to require blanket drug testing of Americans applying for unemployment compensation, despite the fact that multiple courts have determined this practice to be unconstitutional. Across the United States, many Americans are looking for jobs. Many are terrifiedthattheywillsoonlosethehealthcarethatkeepsthemandtheirchildren living healthy and productive lives. Others are concerned that our immigration policy needs to be revisited. But instead of working to address these issues, the House continues to undermine well thought out agency rulesandmakeit increasinglydifficult forouragenciestocarryouttheirduties. I think this is a waste of time and resources, and will continue to speak out against such a misguided approach to governing. On January 3, 2017, I was sworn into office as your newly elected Broward County Property Appraiser. It is a true honor to serve Broward's 1.9 million residents and all nonresident Broward property owners. To learn more about me, please visit http://www.bcpa.net/Marty.asp

What We Do

Broward County Property Appraiser's Office does not set or collect your property taxes, but determines the value of all residential properties, commercial properties and tangible personal property in Broward County. This is important because the amount of property taxes you pay is determined by your local tax rates and the taxable value of your property.

Among other important functions, our office grants property tax exemptions such as Homestead Exemption, Veteran Exemptions, Disability Exemptions, and Additional Low Income Senior Exemptions to qualified permanent residents as well as Agricultural Classification.

If you qualify for any of these valuable exemptions, then we are going to assist you and make sure you receive everything you are entitled to under the law.

Community Outreach

Broward's property owners should pay no more than their fair share of property taxes. Each week, Broward County Property Appraiser's Community Outreach Department visits all areas of Broward to help the public with available tax saving exemptions, property assessments and other important matters related to their property. These exemptions result in considerable savings for the homeowner. For a list of community outreach events, please view our outreach calendar.

If my office can assist you, please visit our website at bcpa.net, call us at 954-357-6830 or email me directly at [email protected]

KIAR YOUR PROPERTY APPRAISER: This month as your Broward County

Commissioner I was honored to take part in two ceremonies that really cause you to reflect on the largermeaningoflifeandthesacrificesthatsomanyinour

community make for the freedoms that we all enjoy. First, I proudly attended the Governor's Veterans Service Award Reception. It was my honor to meet veterans of all ages from our South Florida Community as they were awarded the Governor’s Service medal for the service to the Nation. I had the chance to meet and speak with many veterans from all over the county including District 3 and it was a humbling experience to be a part of their special day.

The second event was a Tree Planting Ceremony in observance of Tu B’shevat 2017 with the Consulate General Lior Haiat in Broward. The Jewish holiday of Tu B’shevat marks the beginning of the New Year for Trees. Fort Lauderdale’s sister city is Haifa Israel. The Consul General hoped this simple tree would, for years to come, inspire children, families and friends to ask each about the new landmark and hopefully, serve as a conversation piece for peace between our communities. With all that is going on in the world today, participating in these events brought tremendousgravityof thought and reflectionuponmyownexperiences. This is one of the reasons I feel so strongly about public service and representing King’s Point and District 3 every day. Please feel free to reach out with any of your questions or concerns at [email protected] or 954-357-7003.
