helpers who volunteered to assist on the night and to the teachers Mrs Eves, Miss Kelly, Mrs Sirohi, Miss Marshall and Mrs
Hayman for supporting the students.

please hand it in to the front office as soon as convenient.
P&C - The next P&C meeting will be held on Monday night, 13th November at 7.30pm in the library. At this meeting Miss
Kelly will be speaking about Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) which is a program that will be launched in 2018,
focusing on a more consistent approach to discipline in the coming years at KLPS. It would be wonderful to have many
parents attend the meeting to learn more about the PBL program.

Danroy K for receiving the Best & Fairest award for the U9’s Blacktown Suns AFL team. His first year of playing
AFL and he has become a rising star in the sport.
PLANNING PROCESS FOR 2018 - As mentioned in previous newsletters, the planning process is underway for 2018

school in 2018 and your child is not in Year 6 would you please inform the office in person, by phone or email. Your
co-operation with this matter is greatly appreciated.

ENDEAVOUR LOG - Term 4 Week 5 - November 9, 2017.
BLACKTOWN LEARNING COMMUNITY’S PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION
Congratulations to our participants in the BLC Public Speaking Competition which was held at Bert Oldfield PS last
Wednesday and Thursday. Cameron E spoke confidently in the Year 3 competition. He entertained with thoughts about
whether space aliens do exist. Joshua B told everyone stories about when he is happiest playing footy or at Copacabana
in the Year 4 section of the competition. Josaia D moved the audience by explaining how he was happiest doing things
with his family in the Year 5 competition. In the Year 6 competition, Lillian B explained how she would eliminate
poverty if she could change the world.
It is always so rewarding taking KLPS students to participate in a public speaking competition because our speakers are
always so well prepared and represent us with pride. All children spoke beautifully and were a credit to their families,
their school and themselves. I know that the parents and grandparents who came along to support our students enjoyed
listening to such excellent speakers. We were very proud! Well done!

Year 6 will be holding their annual Mini Fete to raise money for
their gift to the school. For this, we ask students to bring some
money so they can participate in the activities organised. The
activities are 50c and there is a wide variety of activities for the
students to enjoy. Some of these include the commando course,
soccer challenge, water pistol squirting, a disco, nail and hair
dressing, a photo booth and many more. There will also be a
White Elephant Stall equipped with pre-loved toys
and books.
There will be food stalls running on the day and
the students will be able to purchase cakes, cans
of drink and a sausage sizzle ( a separate note for
sausage sizzle orders was distributed last week).
This is a call for donations for raffle prizes and nail polish, bags of
wrapped lollies, hair spray (coloured), balloons or anything that
you feel we could use. For the White Elephant Stall, we are asking
for donations of new or used books, Lego, toys, dress ups, cars,
small games, board games etc (Anything that is suitable for K-6
students). Please forward all donations to any Year 6 wet area.
Thanking you in advance!
Year 6 Teachers and Students
STEWART HOUSE - Recently each family was issued with a bag for used clothing. If you wish to contribute, please
return the bag to the front entrance of the hall. If your child does not bring a bag home or you need an extra bag, any
suitable plastic bag from home can be used. The last day for collection is Wednesday November 15, 2017.
Please DO NOT RETURN BAGS AFTER THIS DATE as once bags are collected, we have no storage space for bags
which are returned late.
We thank you for your co-operation.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER
What is Mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness meditation is one of the most effective ways of teaching
ourselves to pay attention and be more mindful. It is about focusing our
attention on the present moment, being aware of and acknowledging our
present thoughts and actions, without judging them in any way. If our
minds wander during meditation, the mindful response is to recognise
what is happening and gently bring our attention back to the present
moment.
Practising mindfulness during calm and positive moments means these
skills will be better developed and easy to pull out during the not so good
times.
Here at KLPS, with small groups of students, we can use Mindfulness with
young people as a tool to give them a sense of calm, clarity and
contentment. The use of modern meditation helps children to see their
responses and learn to self-regulate their emotions.
I look forward to working with small groups of students to practise this
wonderful strategy to focus and concentrate on the present.
Regards,
Simone Brown (aka Happy Chappy)
