Save the Dates!• July 19nd: Find Out Your Teacher.• July 23rd: First Day of School

Parent-Child day: plan to stay with your kinder! Kindergarten Schedule:• School begins at 8:15 am • 2:30 pm Dismissal Time (1:00 minimum days)

Dual Immersion• May 31st: Notified if in Dual Immersion. • June 3rd : DI parent meeting• The foundational skills that you practice in English

will help your children learn Spanish!

Resource Resources will be available for pickup in May.• First Week of school information and schedule• CD with learning songs • Online resources

There will be separate DI and English packets.

Letter Sounds• We expect all of our students to be reading

beginning readers by the end of kindergarten.• Learn letter sounds as soon as possible.

– /a/ is for aaaapple …. You can find sounds everywhere!

• Use our songs as a resource

Rhyming• Read nursery rhymes• Sing children’s songs• Music is also a great way to practice rhyming!

Oral Language Skills• Speak in complete sentences• Ask Questions• Respond to questions with complete sentences.

If you speak Spanish and your child will be in the dual immersion program, speak to them more in Spanish at home!

Read, read, read!• READ as much as possible.• Ask questions about the story.• Have fun

Reading ties together all of the elements: letters sounds, playful language, and communication skills.

MathIn kindergarten, students will learn to count to 100! They will also learn to write their numbers to 20, identify shapes, and add and subtract. • Count out loud• Count objects• Find shapes

Writing• Writing text types: narrative, informative, and

opinion. • Beginning of year: sentence formation• End of year: 5 sentence paragraph• At home now, your child can practice writing his or

her name!
