KHU multi rake screen with robust design for heavy-duty applications KHU multi rake screen with robust design for heavy-duty applications KUHN KHU multi rake screen Mechanical preliminary purification of sewage plants always makes enormous demands on people, technology and quality. Special application cases necessitate reliable solutions under practical conditions for the deepest flume / highest discharge heights, particularly where large throughput volumes or extremely wide flumes are involved. Conventional systems soon reach their efficiency or technical limits when confronted by these requirement profiles. The KUHN KHU multi rake screen was developed by practitioners for practitioners and covers these requirements in an ideal manner. Application The stable and robust design principle makes the KUHN KHU multi rake screen ideally suitable for the most difficult applications. These include plants characterised by high volumes of disturbance material (stones, sand, etc.). Manifold oversizing of stress-related elements ensures that components and the entire system enjoy a long service life. Design and function The KUHN KHU multi rake screen mainly consists of a modular system frame, two heavy-duty driving chains with chain sprockets on the drive shaft and the lower deflecting station. Segmented rakes fixed to the chains with a substantial penetration depth ensure reliable cleaning of the screen grid. The fully-automatic scraper ensures that the rakes are cleaned, dispensing with the need for additional brushes or rinsing water. The drive is also equipped with overload protection. The entire machine can be integrated in an existing inlet flume without difficulty. Additional recesses are not necessary for this purpose. Retrofitting in existing plants can be easily realised at any time. Solid matter is held back by the screen grid which consists of rod profiles in a parallel configuration optimised to suit the flow. The rakes fixed to the heavy-duty driving chains engage in the screen grid, clearing it of screenings. Defined penetration of the cleaning elements thus ensures maximum operating reliability. The penetration depth of the clearing bars is designed to prevent screen grid blockage. The cleaning elements transport separated screenings to the scraper. Here the rakes undergo fully-automatic cleaning by the scraper. This prevents debris falling back into the screen channel. The screenings are dropped into downstream installations or containers via a large- volume discharge hopper. The number of rakes can be individually adapted to suit any application or transportation task. If required further rakes can be retrofitted without difficulty. This enables further acceleration of the purification speed specially required for flushing flows during rainy weather. Overload protection ensures that the working cycle is interrupted at a defined rake overloading level.
