TRANSCRIPT
We have had another amazing month of student leadership and being involved in our school commu-
nity. Our students are actively involved in many activities to bring KPS together in positive ways; Epilepsy Aware-
ness, Bake sale, Winter Carnival, Student lunch monitors training, Massed Band, Marlies Intermission band , Eco
team, school announcement team, Robotics, basketball just to name a few. Make sure you ask your child to listen
carefully to the school announcements each morning . Upcoming opportunities will include;
Grade 4 - 8 Track and Field
School wide recess schedule - Tetherballs
With the warmer weather comes the muddy play. Please ensure your child has indoor and outdoor
shoes (or rain boots). Our caretaking team has just finished clearing out tarmac of gravel from the spring thaw.
As shared in our most recent assembly, this is proactive approach to ensuring less gravel is tracked into the school
and reducing the damage to our floors. Thank you for keeping our school sparkling!!!
It was a pleasure to see so many of our families support our school band “Detour 8” who played at the
recent Toronto Marlies game. We had approximately 230 supporters at the game. “Detour 8” were incredible
ambassadors of KPS.
If you have neighbours or friends who are planning to register for Grade 1 French Immersion please
have them contact our office as soon as possible. More information can be found on our school website or call
the school for more information.
Our staff appreciates the ongoing support of our parent community. Keeping your child’s daily routines
with a focus on good nutrition, sleep and a balance of homework, exercise and play is important to your child’s
daily success at school. If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress at school please contact your
child’s teacher. Ongoing communication between home and school is essential in supporting our KPS students.
Merci, Madame Cochrane
All students are reminded to share their learning, special events and pictures for our school newsletter. All

ECO team... A big thank you to our ECO team as they cleaned our school yard last week. Even with indoor recess snack we continue to have concerns about garbage ending up on our school yard. Please remind your child to bring all garbage home; any packaging should be put back in student lunch bags. If you are one of our local neigbours please help us to remind our neighbours that our school yard is where our children play. If our community uses our yard to walk their dogs we would appreciate that they pick up after their pet.
Indoor Recess Games...
Lunch Monitor Training KPS Lunch Monitors are students in grades 5 - 8 who have an interest in caring for
younger students during the eating portion of our lunch time 12:50 1:10. They also
help in our classrooms during indoor recess. In the past few weeks our Lunch Moni-
tor team has completed 3 training workshops. I’d like to thank these students for
their leadership and for their commitment in ensuring student safety. Each classroom
from grade 1 to grade 4 has a team of up to 3 lunch monitors. Their role is to en-
sure student safety and to work with our School Assistants and Staff to proactively solve problems, to encourage and model respect and to provide. I’d like to thank
these students for being leaders at KPS and for helping to provide a safe eating envi-
ronment during indoor recess and lunchtime routines.
During indoor recess, we have a trusty trio of grade sevens monitoring an arsenal of different games, available for students of all ages to take at will and enjoy. The three members are—Xavier D., Nicholas S. and Tristan H. The 'what' - Card games, Board games, Dominos...etc., all at the hands of the stu-dents of this school The 'where' -This entire game center is found in front of the office. There are great big navy-blue sliding doors on which the sign-out sheets hang. The 'when' -This happens during rainy recesses (not necessarily rainy, any weather condition not permitting students to go outside The ‘why’ —Our faithful ‘game’ crew does this for student's entertainment, and en-tertainment only
And last but not least, the ever popular ‘how’ - It is simple. All there is to it is, pick a game, any game from our arrangement, then simply take the pencil sticky-tacked above the sign-out sheet, write your teacher’s name, and enjoy the game. All we ask is, when you re-turn the game(s), please write a checkmark in the ‘return’ box on the sheet. This is all we have to say on this wonderful act of kind-ness on the principal’s/teachers part, and we hope you enjoy ! Nicholas S. ~ grade 7

Il est venu a notre école et il a mis tous les tambours dans notre gymnase. C'était amusant parce que toute le monde a participe et a joue ensemble. Il est venu pour tambourer avec nous. Pour plus

Purple Day For Epilepsy Awareness
Robotics Team Competes... At the robotics competition we had a lot of fun. We had to throw a ball into a bucket , the tall bucket was three points and the small one was two. The small one on the ramp was three, we went for the two bucket and we came 6th out of 65 schools . This is pretty good! We might have gotten better but we had to forfeit because our robot broke. We learned a lot at the challenge and we saw some other robots .
There was many different types of robots. Some were really cool. Some had a few bugs, not big bugs but small bugs, like 0.5 rotations short some just did not go fast enough.
We all got a turn to program. What was really fun for some of us, we got to be the driver and some the supervisors. We all had very important roles. We did a lot and the only reason we got 6 place is because of our team work.
After the competition we had time to look around and get a few tricks from other schools. One of the things that we learned was the only reason we lost a few challenges was because our robot was not fast enough. The program was fast enough but not our tracks. For the next competition, we will use wheels, this should make the robot fast enough.
At first I thought the programming was going to be too hard for me but once I got a turns out I am pretty good we did have a few problems at first but we fixed it one problem is that our computer died nothing we could stop but we found a spare what helped alot.
At the competition we saw some robots we would never expected to see we saw one team with one of the first NXT it different. What I noticed is the winning robot only one because of it's speed it went really fast and had good aim and the arm was long.
At the final match the 2 best robots were competing it was really close 48 to 50 we noticed there strategy it was pretty good they were only going for the bucket which gives you 3 points the other teams strategy was maximize their points by trying to get 4 balls in each bucket but they lost.

Purple Day was on Friday March 26. On Purple Day everyone came to school wearing purple. We wore purple to support Epilepsy Awareness.
Did you know Epilepsy is when a person has many seizures. It also feels like I am hav-ing a storm in my brain or there is a marshmallow in my brain. This is what you do if I have a seizure: 1) Roll me on my side 2) Put something soft under my head 3) Move dangerous objects out of the way 4) Call 911 after 5 minutes I was so surprised when I saw that everyone was wearing purple. I was happy that eve-
ryone was wearing purple because they were supporting epilepsy very well.
