MYUNA BAY & COFFS COAST CAMPS There are still places available for Coffs Coast Camp. Myuna Bay Camp only has 1 place left. We recommend that these camps are paid off on a regular/weekly basis so you are not left with a large sum to pay by the due dates of 21 May for Coffs Coast and 27 July for Myuna Bay. You are able to pay weekly via the online POP system, cash, Eftpos, credit card (via phone) or cheque. DISCOVERER & INVESTIGATOR BUTTERFLY HOUSE EXCURSION – Wednesday 9 May This excursion is in week 2 next term. Notes have already been sent home with students, please contact the office if you did not receive a note. The cost is $22. All parents and carers are welcome to attend these assemblies which are from 2.45-3.15pm. On the week your child’s class is doing the afternoon tea and assembly item you will go to your child’s classroom at 2.15pm for the afternoon tea. At this afternoon tea you will be able to review your child’s work towards their learning goals. Your child’s class will also be presenting an item at assembly following the afternoon tea. School Ceremony Our Captains and Ministers will be hosting our school ANZAC Day Ceremony this Thursday 12 April at 10.45am. Parents, carers and the community are welcome to join us for this special ceremony which will be held under the COLA. ANZAC Day March Our school will be once again marching for the ANZAC Day March through town on 25 April. Students are to wear their school uniforms. Parents are able to walk with students if they wish. We are to meet at 10.15am at Sydney Street near the service station for the march to commence at 10.30am. The march will finish at the cenotaph in East Kempsey. We will update via Facebook if there are any changes.

Principals News

Old Uniforms If anyone has any old uniforms at home they are willing to donate to the school, we would really appreciate it. These uniforms would go into the pool of clothing that we change students in when necessary at school. Any lost property with no names that is not collect by end of term will also be donated to our clothing pool. PLP BBQ Wednesday Tomorrow afternoon from 4:30-5:30pm all Aboriginal families are invited to meet with staff and students for discussions around their child’s PLP. If you have not RSVP yet but still wish to come, please call the office. Responsible Pet Visit Last week students in kindergarten to Year 2 really enjoyed their visit from Leanne and her sausage dog Ellie. Students were engaged in a variety of activities to promote responsible pet ownership as well as how to approach a dog when out in public. Kempsey Show If you are at the show today or tomorrow we would love you to take some time to visit the Macleay Public Schools stand. We would also like to wish all of our students competing at the show good luck! Our students have some art in varying categories. The students that art work is being displayed are; Discoverers: Layke, Miley, Taj, Claire, Charlie and Bailey Investigators: Lucas C, Mason, Emmaline, Seth, Julie and Ebony Creators: Ally S, Hannah L, Natalia D, Chelsea S Innovators: Lacey, Bree, Ashling, Juliana, Caitlin, Summah, Latara, Emily D (Year 6) Anzac Day This Thursday at 10:45am we will be holding our annual ANZAC Day service. Any family and community members that would like to attend are welcome. During the holidays our school will also be marching in the Kempsey march – please see details on the front page of the newsletter. Sport Last week Monique M and Avril O tried out for the Lower North Coast selection trials for soccer. Monique M was successful and will be attending the trials for the North Coast team in May. Mikayla P, Maddie O, Jade O, Cailtin W and Makeely P attended the trials for the lower north coast netball. Maddie O, Jade O and Makeely P were successful in being selected to go to the North Coast trials. We would like to congratulate these students and wish them all the best. Hub Changes for the Start of Term 2 No students will be changing home rooms for the start of term 2. There will be some movement within hubs for literacy and numeracy to accommodate student needs. Innovators will have students remaining with the one teacher for the whole of the literacy session each day to minimise the movement for students. If you have any further questions please contact your child’s home teacher or myself. The 2018 School Plan and Annual School Report Both these documents are now live on our school website. If you have any questions about either of these documents please come and see me. Our staff is very excited for the direction of our school over the next three years. Holidays I would like to thank our dedicated teaching staff for providing fantastic learning experiences for all of our students this term. This is the last week of school before the school holidays. We hope that all families have a restful break and enjoy time recharging ready for another term ahead. The first day back for staff is Monday the 30

th April and students resume on Tuesday 1

Kempsey Library School Holiday Workshops

Wildlife workshop with Aaron Turner Bob Turner Wildlife and friends will be visiting Kempsey Shire Library to host a hands-on close up contact experience with a variety of interesting animals. The workshop will be held on Friday 20 April at 10am. Drawing Workshops with artist Matthew Lin Two school holiday drawing workshops will be held at Kempsey Shire Library on Monday 23 April. A Pokemon workshop for kids aged 12 and under will be held from 10:30am to 12pm while a Manga Japanese style drawing workshop for young adults over 12 will be held from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. Both workshops will cost $5 each.
