Keeping Healthy and safe
Keeping Safe
As you know, we regularly practise evacuating the school building in case of fire. This term we will also be learning how to practise a procedure to keep everyone inside the school building away from any perceived danger such as chemical spillages and air pollution, or an intruder. As always the children will be made fully aware of what to do and why we need to practise evacuating the building and staying inside.
Relationship Policy
Following updated guidance, our policy talks about teaching children in an age appropriate way, healthy friendships and relationships. We invite parents to view the policy on the school website and contact the school if you have any questions or suggestions.
Headstart Our school has become an official Headstart school. As you know we have a dedicated pastoral team to support positive wellbeing and we are always here to help when needed. We work closely with therapeutic services such as Mind, Headstart and CATs and are looking forward to some of our older pupils becoming ‘Headstarters’. This means the Headstart team will come to school and lead some learning for us all in how we can support each other with wellbeing. The ultimate aim of the Headstart approach is to equip young people with resilience and to help them learn about how to manage everyday worries. It is great to be part of this work.
Parking We have the support of the local police in helping us resolve the parking issues
on Douglas Street and the garage have agreed not to park their vehicles in our car park. We will also be enclosing the car park with a fence so it can be used by our families and staff.
Mayor’s Table This month we welcomed Cleveland Fire Brigade Schools’
Education Officer, Michael Burnip, to school. Michael is a good friend to Breckon Hill and he and his team have led excellent work on fire safety in school. He enjoyed a lunch with our Y6 children and explained more about his work to us, many thanks Michael.
Philosophy for Children (P4C) P4C is taught weekly to encourage and develop our children’s independent thinking, speaking and listening skills. These skills can then be used across the curriculum. Each newsletter we will include a question that you could discuss with your children. Here is this months question. Our teachers would love to hear about these discussions.
