KE FibertecFabric Duct Systems KE Fibertec offer a wide range of Duct Systems as BIM components to suit all your project building applications and this userguide will outline the step-by-step process of getting the most out of these BIM components.

The available KE Fibertec Duct Systems include the following types:

Round ‘O’

Half Round ‘D’Quarter ‘D’

1. Open your Revit project file and navigate to a floor plan view.

2. Now open the required KE Fibertec component that you have downloaded. Use the revit ribbon at the top of the window to navigate to the family editor and click ‘Load Family’ as highlighted below.

3. Navigate to the file required and select.

4. The components can now be selected from the ‘Components’ section of the main Revit ribbon.

Loading the KE Fibertec Ventilation Componentinto your project The Duct Air Terminal products are modelled as ‘Air Terminal’ components that can be easily loaded into your project. This can be done using the following method:

Placing the KE Fibertec component into your project

Now the KE Fibertec Products are loaded into your project you willn eed to place them into your model.

1. Firstly, on the main Revit Ribbon go to ‘Component’ tab as indicated below, or also the ‘Air Terminal’ button on the ‘Systems’ tab.

2. With ‘Component’ selected the KE Fibertec component will appear in the ‘Properties’ dialogue box, typically seen on the left hand side of the screen. At the head of the drop down box you can see the selected ‘Components’, use the dropdown to then select the desired component.

Within the KE Fibertec components there are various user adjustable options that can be selected from both drop down and tick boxes. Examples of these include ‘Room Category’, ‘System Type’ and also ‘Additional Elbows’ and ‘Straight Lengths’ to allow for a fully adjustable system.

Firstly, the components are built up in a series of ‘elbows’ and ‘straight’ lengths and therefore

has tick box options to turn these ‘on and off’. To select additional elbows and straight lengths select the component at move into the ‘Properties’ tab on the left hand side of the screen. Scroll to the ‘Segments and Fittings’ section of the ‘Properties’ tab and select the ‘elbows’ and ‘straight’ lengths you need to create the specified shape (as shown in yellow below):

Using the KE Fibertec Ventilation Systems – Additional Features

The KE Fibertec System can be adapted to suit any room type with the use of the correct straight lengths and elbows. All elbows are set to 500 mm, however, the straight lengths can be adjusted to any length, being adjusted by selecting the component and inputting the specified length into the correct ‘Length Parameter’ in ‘1st Straight Length’.

The Quarter Round system works slightly different to the other shape duct systems. With the quarter round duct being a more complex shape the sequence of the duct has to be selected in a certain fashion to allow the system to work. Below, the available paths to follow to achieve the correct configurations for the Quarter D Duct are shown:

1st Elbow A 2nd Elbow A

1st Elbow A 2nd Elbow B 3rd Elbow Away

1st Elbow B 2nd Elbow B 3rd Elbow Return

Using the KE Fibertec Ventilation Systems - continued... The angles of the elbows can also be adjusted to suit within the properties tab by selecting the correct angle (ie 1st Elbow Angle) and inputting the specified angle as shown below:

Example of the KE Fibertec System at various lengths and shapes.

Please note that if the System is required in the opposite direction, use the flip arrow located on the ‘1st Straight Length’ seen in the ‘Ref Level’ view.

Following on from this another feature is the adjustable ‘Flow Rates’ which directly powers the ‘Duct diameter’ and also selects the correct ‘Room Category’. This works when the flow rate is altered to the user’s specific needs, this then directly changes the ‘Room Category (A-D)’ based off the ‘Permitted Velocity’. The ‘Flow Rate’ is altered by selecting the component, moving to the Revit Ribbon and typing the required flow rate into the box as highlighted:

KE Fibertec Fabric Duct Systems - Additional Features Another feature is the adjustable ‘System Type’. The choice of system is up to the user to select and this powers the choice of material (open or closed) and whether the system should have holes or nozzles for air distribution, depending on the type selected. As demonstrated below in the properties tab *System Type’ can be selected from a drop down box which then changes the material and air distribution method to the default setting for the specified system.

For example when the ‘Direjet System’ is selected, ‘Closed Material’ and ‘Nozzles’ are automatically selected:

Leading on from this it is shown below how the ‘Room Category’ and specific product data changes automatically when the flow rate is altered allowing the user to see output velocities, pressure and temperatures within each system type.

KE Fibertec Fabric Duct Systems - Connectors

Regarding ‘Connectors’ on all of the KE Fibertec components ‘Top’ and ‘Wnd’ inlets are available. Firstly, the ‘Top Inlet Duct Option’ allows for the inlet to move along the first straight length.

This is done by selecting the component, moving into the Properties tab and changing the unit in the ‘Connector Distance From LHS’ parameter as shown below:

Other Notes

The ‘End Inlet Option’ resizes according to the ‘Air Flow Rate’ within the duct, therefore this is done automatically when ‘Air Flow Rate’ is adjusted by the user.

You can add the KE Fibertec components to your company template file. This will mean that they are available without loading when starting a new project.
