Free Training for High School Students:

KPBSD Career and Tech Department is offering free after school academies to train

students in the welding, construction and medical field. Listed below is an upcoming

academy:

A summer construction academy will be taking place at the Workforce Development

Center (located behind KCHS). Students will be constructing a greenhouse and a

shed. Class days will be May 27th-30th and June 1st-4th from 8:00am-4:00pm.

Also offered this summer is an Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) academy. Dates

and locations to be announced. This course will cover all areas required to receive

certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. The last week of class will be for

review and the final exam. If you pass the exam you’ll receive your certification and

an ETT patch.

Any high school student is able to participate in any of our academies. If a student

successfully completes the 60 hour academy they will receive a ½ practical art credit.

To sign up students can see their counselor, call Debbie Pearson at 283-2145 or go to

http://onestop.kpbsd.k12.Alaskaus/

JOB SHADOW 2015 THANK YOU

In preparation for the 2015 Job Shadow Day, 100 juniors at Kenai Central High School spent several months

researching careers and preparing business portfolios, including job applications, résumés, and cover letters.

Their efforts and dedication during this unit prepared them to positively represent Kenai Central High School.

The unit culminated with individualized, first-hand workplace experiences with local business hosts from

across the Central Peninsula. KCHS would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of the individuals,

agencies, and businesses that helped to support this program and who helped make this such a positive experi-

ence for students.

Special thanks go to the following Job Shadow committee members for organizing this annual event: Johna

Beech, Gloria Ungrue, and Chastity Peterson at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center; Rachel

O’Brien and Diana Spann at the Peninsula Job Center; and Krista Timlin at Kenai Peninsula College.

Thanks also to Borough Mike Navarre and Mike Crawford for speaking at the luncheon; Rachel O’Brien for

helping students prepare their résumés; Patty Eissler of Central Peninsula Hospital and Brent Olson of Tesoro

Corp. for assisting with job shadow orientation; and Tim Navarre for organizing donations for the luncheon.
