Characters The main character throughout is Katy Perry. She appears in three of the images on her cd cover. On the main cover image she is heavily made up with her hair laid perfect which gives her sex appeal for both genders. With her direct address and mouth open it adds to her promiscuous pose. It gives the impression to the audience that she is looking at them, and pulls you in with the hyper real world she has created. To add to that her skin is glowing which enhances her perfect image. On the image on the right she lay with her hand on her chest, with candy floss covering which again adds to the flirtatious image she is representing. Furthermore with the burlesque styled makeup and hair, it adds to the character that Katy Perry portrays regularly. I feel that she has chosen this because it represents an elegant image although the juxtaposition between her provocative style.

Narrative EventsThe album “Teenage Dream” has the images that relate to this fantasy world. Katy Perry laid rude on the bed of candy gives the stereotypical sex appeal contrasting with the child like world. We get the impression that she’s so happy, that she is living the “teenage

dream”. In the inside cover image the first impressions is that it looks very different to the front & back covers. It looks formal with the dark colours and additionally and portrays royalty with the way her hair has been styled and the crown and jewellery that she is wearing. This contrasts with the fun images that I looked at before. However, when you look closer at the picture you can see that the crown and jewellery is actually made up from sweets which again follow the theme from the front and back covers. This picture really conveys a humorous side of Katy Perry which is often seen in her personal life from the media, which I think enables the audience to relate with her & her music. The narrative to this CD, is that she’s in her perfect world. With the front cover image being over photo shopped, it looks drawn on. On the other hand it looks perfect plastic which gives the impression that in her world she’s happy with her appearance, and that in our own fantasy world we would all be classed as “perfect “.

IconographyThe stereotypical innocent images are portrayed with the POP genre of Katy Perry. Although she adds her angelic appearance to exaggerate her style of the child like fantasy world. Additonally both CD’s are made to look like sweets which adds humour to the informal style. Her dark brunette hair adds to her sexuality by contrasting with her blue eyes.

SettingThe setting throughout is based upon this hyper real world that Katy has created. The corset that she is wearing is embedded with a sequin which gives the impression of the glitz and glamour, also , wealth. The candy worn as a crown gives her the status that women rule the world; additionally the candy makes her sweet and fun giving her the sex appeal. With the positive colour blue being displayed behind the pink candy floss connotes the purity. To add to that the pink candy that would originally be white, gives it the girly edge of every girls pink dream world. The cloud effect gives the impression that Katy is floating in her own creation. On the other hand we have the black backdrop on the inside cover that Katy’s glowing skin contrasts against. I feel that she has chosen this so that her elegant outfit stands out.

Technical and Audio codesThe front cover text is designed in the style of candy canes. The bubble text adds to the dream like element additionally keeping it informal. With the lighting high key it exposes her innocence, with her lay down on the soft pink candy clouds. The pink connotes her girly side additionally appealing to a variety of ages. For example the nude element appeals to the male genre.
