REGISTRATION/CANCELLATIONThe registration fee is $50. Pre-registration deadline is July 7, 2020. A $15 late fee will be assessed after July 7, 2020. Pre-registration is your only guarantee of space and program materials.

A registrant may cancel no later than July 11, 2020, to receive a refund, minus a $15.00 administrative fee. After that time, no refunds will be made. The registration fee will not be transferred to future offerings. Refunds are made by mail. The sponsors reserve the right to cancel the program in the event of insufficient registration. Kansas Telehealth Summit COURSE FACULTYKeynote SpeakerJames P Marcin, M.D., MPH

Dr. Marcin is Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pediatrics at the UC Davis School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Health and Technology at UC Davis Health. He completed medical school at UC San Diego, pediatric residency at UCSF, and pediatric critical care fellowship at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. In addition to his clinical work in the Pediatric ICU, he conducts research and advocacy in telehealth related to access and quality of care, particularly as

it relates to children with special healthcare needs and acutely ill and injured children in rural communities.

Jeffery Curtis, M.D., FACC, FACPDr. Jeffery Curtis has been practicing general and interventional cardiology in Kansas since 1988. He has spent the last 18 years of his career at Hays Medical Center in his hometown, Hays, Kan. Prior to his time at Hays Medical Center, Dr. Curtis spent 14 years at StormontVailHealthCare Cotton O’Neil HealthCare in Topeka, Kan.

Stewart Ferguson, Ph.D.Stewart Ferguson Ph.D. is CIO for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) located in Anchorage Alaska. Dr. Ferguson has primary responsibility for IT and Clinical Informatics operations for the Alaska Native Medical Center, the largest Native hospital in the US and the only level 2 trauma center in Alaska. Dr. Ferguson was previously the Director of the Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network (AFHCAN) in Anchorage, Alaska with deployments throughout Alaska, the United States,

and multiple other countries. He is the a Past-President of the American Telemedicine Association, and is a founding member and past-Chairman of the Board for the Northwest Regional Telehealth Resource Center providing support to telehealth systems in 8 states and the Pacific Islands. Dr. Ferguson has over twenty years of progressive computer and research experience in academic, industrial, biomedical and business environments.

Michael Machen, M.D.Dr. Machen was born in Smith Center, Kan., and grew up in Concordia, Kan.. He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Kansas and a 1983 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Dr. Machen has practiced in Quinter, Kansas since 1986 as a partner at Bluestem Medical and as a staff member at Gove County Medical Center. He also provides care at Sheridan County Clinic and the Russell County Emergency Rooms. Along with his practice, he also serves as the Network Site Director for the University of

Kansas Medical Center in Northwest Kansas and assists in directing the preceptorship program and rural programs associated with medical education in this area. In 2014, he received the Ad Astra Outstanding Volunteer Award and in 2015 he was the 2015 KEMSA Physician of the Year. Dr. Machen was awarded the Kansas Academy of Family Practice Physician of the Year award in 2018.

Jennifer Bacani McKenney, M.D., FAAFPJennifer Bacani McKenney is a practicing family physician in her hometown of Fredonia. She has owned and managed an independent practice alongside her father for the last 10 years. Dr. McKenney served as the resident board member on the national Board of Directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. She currently serves as the Vice-President of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians and will step into the presidency of the

organization in 2022. She is also on the board of the Kansas Medical Society. Dr. McKenney is the Wilson County Health Officer as well as the Fredonia City Health Officer. She is the director of the local home health agency and hospice agency.

Sosunmolu O. Shoyinka M.D., MBA, FAPADr. Sosunmolu Shoyinka is the Chief Medical Officer for the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). In this role, he works to ensure that policy and programs throughout DBHIDS are aligned with current evidence and best practices to achieve optimal population health outcomes. Dr Shoyinka’s clinical experience spans multiple settings. These include telemedicine, academic medicine, private for-profit and state hospitals, forensics, correctional settings, primary care, federally qualified

health centers, health homes and community mental health settings. He is board-certified in general adult psychiatry, community and public psychiatry, and addiction medicine.

Ryan Spaulding, Ph.D.Ryan Spaulding is the Acting Director of the KU Center for Telemedicine & Telehealth (KUCTT), the Vice Chancellor for Community Engagement, and a Research Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). Previously he was the Director of KUCTT for 12 years. In his current roles, he oversees multiple university departments that provide health care services and education to rural communities in Kansas, including the Kansas Project ECHO program at KUMC. He is a

member of the American Telemedicine Association and the National Rural Health Association.

Lucinda (Cindy) Whitney, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, Ph.D.

Dr. Lucinda Whitney is a Clinical Assistant Professor and program coordinator for the University of Kansas Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. She has been a mental health nurse for 33 years and in advance practice for 15 years. She has a clinical practice at Kids TLC in Olathe, Kan. and a telehealth clinic at the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. Lucinda is the past president and current treasurer of the Kansas Psychiatric Nurses Association.

Shawna Wright, Ph.D., LPShawna Wright is the Associate Director of the KU Center for Telemedicine & Telehealth. She is a clinical psychologist who worked for over a decade in community mental health before establishing an independent telepsychology practice in 2011. Dr. Wright is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Rural Health Association. Locally, she is a member of the Rural and Frontier Subcommittee of the Governor’s Behavioral Health Services Planning Council, and more. She

assists organizations, health professionals, and research studies in understanding the core fundamentals of telemedicine operations.
