Cinema West 2
8201 State Av. ? 1969-? 1975 Commonwealth Theatres owned this theatre. From Dale Stafford: It operated as a movie theatre from '69 until '75, when it was converted into a bowling alley, somewhat of a craze at the time. The large '60s era sign out by the street remained, with the word "Cinema" painted over to read "Ranch", ie, "Ranch West". Very soon afterwards, and I believe to this day, you can still see the word "Cinema" bleeding through the paint. As far as the building itself, it was completely destroyed by a fire in the 90s, although a new building was quickly built, but in a more traditional format, and remains "Ranch West Bowl". (As a personal note, I saw many of my childhood movies here, such as the Pippy Longstockings movies. I remember there being a clown that would come out before the movies to introduce the movie and throw candy to the children. I was very sad when it burned, but at least the sign, basically unaltered, remains out by the street.) Also, in the last few years, a bold man, John Kampe, actually re-opened the Indian Springs movie theater, the newer one with 6 screens in the bottom level. He said it was in exactly the same condition as when it was closed in the 90s. I will research more about that, I don't think his experiment lasted very long.
